People wonder whether Empress Nara went crazy as Qianlong tried to say. I think Qianlong sounded crazy himself and a true narcissist. What normal ruler orders a scholar's execution just because over 12 years after an Empress' death, the scholar asks whether she can have posthumous honours? It sounds like Qianlong was at fault and he knew it and that's why he hated the Empress Nara so much. His behaviour reminds of typical narcissistic rage.
If the drama is true, and Xian raised Yongqi with Yu then the reason is clear. When Yonqi was born,Xian and Yu were in a different standing with the Emperor. They were happy and progressing. When Yongji was born things turned ugly during his critical time of learning. Then there’s also Ling’s poisoning and plotting. The kid really didn’t have much of a chance.
