Here in Michigan, paving like this is widespread in the summer. Right down the street i live on for instance. They throw tar down, and then dump gravel over it, and let the traffic pack it down. Where the traffic is, the road will pack down, and the other spots here and there , will have mounds of gravel, in-between lanes along the centerline especially. Every summer, comprehensive insurance pays for new windshields. Better than gravel though, eventually.

Kevin, I used to live in a rural area in Tennessee. We had our road sealed just like that. At first, I hated it. But, after a few weeks of vehicles driving on it, it was almost like asphalt. I think you’ll like it in a little while. As always, the dogs steal my heart!❤

Used to work road construction during college summers and we called chip seal “poor man’s pavement.” But it’s better than dirt or bad roads…

I paved hundreds of miles un my 47 years in asphalt paving. The chip seal is asphalt emulsion placed hot and gravel placed and rolled in. It is to extend the life of the asphalt road. Look at it as a wear coarse, also a seal. Just don't crash a motor cycle on it. Very coarse sand paper. Thanks for sharing from an old road paver!

After a few days that will be just like blacktop . That's what the road I grew up on was. It actually holds up better than blacktop in my opinion. Every so many years it was redone, and it was gravelly, and dusty for a few days, but then back to normal.

In Wisconsin chip seal is emulsified asphalt (like liquid tar) then covered with small stones. It is a mess to drive on for awhile. Stones chip the paint & windows then the tar splatters & sticks to the paint. It's miserable to remove hundreds of stuck on tar spots. We usually don't drive on it for a couple of weeks, we let the newbies to this process of the driving & pounding it into place & they can spend their time cleaning their vehicles.

Kevin it takes months to get all the loose gravel off the road after chip seal. Especially on side roads. Hopefully they will sweep it after a few weeks. But it won't be 100 percent clean. Be careful on the motorcycles.

Guess my idea about using a level got deleted, along with
possibly using road base or crusher run + fines or light cast cement. OH well, can lead horse to water, can't make'em drink...just be doing it again.....until you get lucky. Lucky is better than good.

Love the sign Manners Make the Man. We have been teaching our grandson that motto since he was little. He's 11 now and he knows his manners and how to show patriotism when the Anthem is being played or performed and respect for the flag. Seems those things missed a generation.
They chip seal our old back roads when they get a little warn out but not needed repaving. Oil/tar down first then grit/chip. The traffic packs it in. Sometimes they come back to sweep the mounds in the middle and sides. We tend to drive slower on them until set. I'm over here in the southeast of Pennsylvania.
I have two dogs, one 14 the other 1 yr. One yr old old cat and two new 8 weeks old kittens. Love my babies more than some people. Retired so home all day with them

I live up in the north east and they use chip seal alot. It's not too bad after a few months but until then, it's very dangerous with a motorcycle. Where I am at, they would never put road signs up and it would surprise me when riding and I almost dumped two times. Please be careful!
Usually a double shot chipseal on unpaved roads or alleys. At least that's what gets done here in Tucson. After chips have been settling and driven on a bit the loose chips are swept up and removed.
My granddaughter carried a purse looked like a straw basket. Her teacup Yorkie would jump in it every time she set it on the floor. I she needed to sweep or vacuum, she would put him into her backpack and hang it on a door handle. He'd even sleep in her backpack sometimes.
We have some roads near us that they add a layer of chips seal every couple of years. One road was actually raised a couple of inches after a few times.
Kevin...check the fan capacetor....that fixed my problen when the fan was not comming on when idleling...??
Topo Chico Mocktail: Tall glass with ice. Add 1 part Cranberry juice, then 3 parts Topo, mix & stir, add a slice of a Lime. Optional add a cocktail cherry. Mighty fine especially when it’s hot. If you want to make it a cocktail add some Vodka.

They use that chip seal here in Ohio usually on roads that are in need of some repair but too good to replace.
Traffic will pack it down eventually but you still want to watch for the loose stone when on the "sickel".
We have the pavement in England sometimes. They make us drive 20mph on it for a few days. Risk of skidding is high.

our roads are the same in New Zealand, they brush off the loose gravel at the end of the job but u still got to extend ur following distance on new roads for a bit... love those dogs❤

I still haven't found a sparkling water that I like. My little dog goes in most stores in his stroller. I have no problems. I saw that fearless leap Dexter made. You have to keep one eye on him all the time, same as when Tucker decided to swim across the lake. That was a nice lady you met.

That is what tar and chip is. Spray on the tar then cover with stone. Keeps the dust down.

Tar and chipped roads will pretty quickly turn asphalt like. Gravels don't stay loose for long
That chip seal makes for a broken windshield. Try not to be on it if you don't have to. Let other people get the broken windshields until It works down.

That old wheel barrel - I have one in my back yard. Works good. Hubby has had to fix it a couple of times but it is sort of heavy duty. It is old so maybe not quite as heavy duty has original.
Like those sort of yard sales…you can find some good stuff once in a while.

That’s what the chip and seal will look like they did it all over our town and a lot of people even in the vehicles were not happy because the rocks you can just hear the rocks hitting your vehicle constantly as you drive over it.

If they do that chip seal the way I have seen it done, they will be coming back with a sweeper to gather up all the loose stone that did not sink into the tar. You may have a few days of loose rocks flying about then you drive over it, then it should get a lot better.
@RangeandDaks The streets around my childhood home were paved this way. It made for a good smooth, durable road surface.
The last thing you want is a lot of pavement in the hot desert. It only creates more heat.
I see the Tracker is idling at about 2100 rpm's and is way too high. Needs something to be adjusted or fixed.

I tried the topo chico,it was so flavorless I couldn’t stand the taste.i would rather just drink ice water.the flavor is so much better! It has to be decent water though! That loose stone will pack down into the tar after some traffic goes over it for a while.

Macadam. That’s what we call it in New jersey.. not chip seal. You put tar then stone then tar then stone. The more it’s used the better it gets. The tar is like syrup.. Scottish man named Mc Adam invented it.. look it up
