Seeing this spruce log sawing reminds me that over 50 years, this wood was used to build airplanes. I've flown a few made of wood and fabric in my early days in aviation. During WWI, I believe the Army helped harvest timber in the Pacific Northwest to increase spruce production for the war effort. I have a wooden propeller (made of spruce) off of Dad's Cessna 120 (1948). It's light but strong; it's an important keepsake from when I grew up in airplanes. I really enjoy your sawing videos. I'm a hobbyist woodworker (an old one).
I enjoy the sawmill videos I worked on a round saw mill 75 years ago it was all manual no laser or log turner cant hook was the turner my father logged with a blind horse guided her by voice I had my 84th birthday march 23
One of my favorite parts of the video is seeing that stack of finished lumber when you’re done. Just something very cool about seeing that clean fresh rough cut dimensional lumber sitting there before you move it out of the mill.
Absolutely, positively, enjoy all your videos, Mark and Eddies as well. Watching your channels is like a Norman Rockwell movie, it gives you the warm fuzzies of being home. The way you guys interact, always safety first, and sharing knowledge of things you have learned, and just feeling a part of the comradery of the mill, we feel like a part of it. thank you guys! Olive wood I started milling when I was about 16 on redwood burls using a Alaskan mill trained a young friend how to run it about 5 years ago once he became good enough I gave it to him I started at 16 and quit at 67 and I loved every log I mill just like Christmas to find color,grain and the smell I like your channel your system is much easier and cleaner .

Just a suggestion, we can see the license plates a whole lot better behind the saw blade than at the end of the building. We can see all of the section with just a few plates just fine. Again, only suggestion! Love the videos!!
Watching y’all make them first cuts to square it up……I used to go with “Uncle Jim” in his 46 Chevy stake bed truck to the saw mill to get them “slabbies” as he called them. He said they were bass wood ? but cut up into 11” pieces on his belt driven (tractor belt pully) buzz saw were just right size for the old pot belly stove in the front room of the house where my Dad grew up over in S. Mi. Long time ago
Five o’clock in the morning watching you guys while I have my English breakfast nice boards coming off the mill again, like the edger,yesterday was interesting women accused me of not being disabled and using someone else’s badge I couldnt possibly be disabled as I drive a twin wheeled pick up , she got abusive but the security guard moved her on I was at the accountants she was there for a job , the security guard informed them of what had gone on in the car park I’m a share holder in the company as well needless to say she didn’t get the job . Tell Eddie word of the day is respect if you don’t respect other people how do you expect others to respect you ,, any way you guys have a nice day

I never understood why sawyers attempt to put a flat opening face to the knees instead of putting it down on the head blocks so there is never a way for the log to become out of square unless there is a chunk of bark on the head blocks.
that's the best way to saw soft wood set your cant width then saw off the boards , and yes you will have more problems with bark on the head blocks then the knee face.

Fire pit… hmmm. I have the stainless steel drum out of a scrap washing machine that looks exactly the same but with holes which helps the burn. I’m sure the guys would be proud of that one 🤔👍🏻

Was the wood turning piece possiblY made from the wormy soft maple stock(WHND - Worm Holes No Defect) that you sawed a while back? I think you guys refer to it as Ambrosia Maple. Regardless of the wood species, that was a beautiful wood turning.
I finally did see what MIGHT have been Mr. Laser. We all know you are just humble and do it all by eye. It's OK. We understand and will not feel less about our own abilities. There is NO reason to lie about using a laser anymore. LOLOL

Grandpa said years ago the edger operator used to use a chalk line when he was running the edger back in the lumbermill days. He can only imagine how handy a laser would be. Darn, I can't remember the wood you sawed but I think I know where that chalice may have come from.... I'll have to check back in your videos . Reminds me of the box elder with the red streaks maybe?
my dog was so smart, I asked him what was on the outside of a tree and he said "Bark Bark Bark". My other dog is smart too. I asker her what is on top of a house and she says "Roof Roof".. their puppy is smart as well. I asked him how sandpaper feels, and he says "Rough Rough".

the saw is pretty sharp but stringy wood does saw like that.

Generally, how long do the logs sit before you saw them up, and how long does the sawn lumber need to sit/season before it’s used?
we like to saw them as soon a possible and it takes a year to air dry hardwood down to 12%
