    As a rehab candidate due to rotator cuff issues (I'm nearly back to 100%, though), I am avoiding this exercise for now. Once I build up my strength and stability back within the cuff (as well as my postural muscles), I may attempt the OHP; with gradual progressive overload.
    Overall, each of your statements are valid regarding this exercise. Everyone should assess their body mechanics, strength and stability before trying it out.

      I definitely agree with what you are doing! Very true statement at the end you gave too

    Totally agree about the pec minor, it gets really tight after a day of school/work

      Indeed Jorgen...it's a Very overlooked muscle...which is shouldn't be given that it is quite powerful and can cause many problems

    Mark rippetoe talks about the OHP and how it can't impinge the shoulder, what's your take on that? I'm pretty sure he is referring to shrug at the top of the moment.

      Shrugging at the top might help to some degree, but I think slouching over your desk for hours a day, combined with not working out the rotator cuff enough will cause impingement in many people and shrugging at the top won't be able to help them much

      When it comes to the rotator cuff what's your take on 0 degrees vs 90 degrees of abduction?

    • @Fitnessoriented
      @Fitnessoriented  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I personally like 0 degrees better, as when you go up to 90 degrees, you are using your Deltoid significantly more. If you are at 0 degrees, you can isolate the Rotator Cuff either on a Cable Machine or sidelying on a bench with a Dumbbell and do shoulder internal and external rotation

      Yea but saying that slouching is bad, and that you have bad rotator cuffs doesnt mean that the OHP is a bad exercise, it just means that people are dysfunctional, this entire video is a bit of clickbait.

    You should look up The Press on the art of manliness channel. Mark Rippetoe shows how a proper overhead press doesn't impinge the shoulder because the scapula rotates.

    I've got some scar tissue or an issue in my left shoulder (for about 10 years now) ohp is one of the few shoulder exercises I can do that doesnt aggravate it...any other shoulder chest sometimes even back and bicep will aggravate it

    Nothing wrong with the military press.
    With a reasonable amount of weight and perfect form.
    The problem is, most people don't do this.

    You are becoming a sensationalist. Your title is that it's a BAD exercise, but your video content says it's a bad exercise IF done incorrectly. Provide better full information, please.

      You have to sensationalize a bit to get noticed as I said in my previous comment. I did provide full information within the video and gave good info
