I am 69 years old, and never knew there was a second volume. Another fascinating video providing little known information on important topics of world history.
I read "Mein Kampf" in high school as a book report project although admittedly I only got through Book 1. Take it from me "Mein Kampf" is so poorly written it was absolute torture reading it, one of the worst if not THE worst book I've ever read, irrespective of the political ideas. I admitted in the report I just couldn't deal with Book 2 and the teacher said "No problem!" I did get an A on the report. Trust me, it was Hitler's oratory that made him a success, NOT "Mein Kampf."

What shocks me is the condition it is in compared to my visit in 2009! The foundation wall has many stones missing, souvenir hunters of whatever persuasion are carrying them away. What helped me to find the Kampfhaeusl and other sites were maps of the Obersalzberg, from my, now late, Professor Hoffmann (while studying history at McGill University). His work entitled ‘Hitler’s Personal Security’ De Capo Press, 2000, pages 182-185, have all the key buildings and the extensive tunnel systems mapped out.
That is awesome! Professors like Hoffmann, Christopher R Browning, and Gerhard L Weinberg really can bring history to life for those willing to study it.

Our family friend in Germany named Leo Aumuller found an autographed Mein Kampf in the landfill in Upper Franconia in the 1970s. It was still in a presentation box. Leo knew how to find things.....he then lent it to a friend who promptly "lost it" or just flatly refused to give it back. Never saw the book again. How could he report it? it was illegal to own probably. Leo is also the one who found an 1870s Colt pistol Euro export in that same landfill. He hung the 6 shooter in his work area in the garage on a nail and thought nothing of it. A gun enthusiast friend of his spotted it while on a visit and bought it for an extreme amount of money. That gun probably ended up in Switzerland for double that.
There's something very approachable and digestible about learning history through short, complete tellings like this. ...why I've been subscribed for years, learning new, salient things from history every day

Notice the local German government got permission from the US Army. I found video of US Army dependents (families) looking over the remains of the Berghof's very still remaining garage. That second building in the back of the Platterhoff was still there and left alone to decay. Most G.I's and their families would not known about any of this. I was told in the US Military that all of the furniture of the General Walker Hotel was obtained from the local NAZI buildings, to which the locals looted when the US Army left.
i sat on those stones couple years back, smoking a cigarette in the gloom of twilight while buses full of tourists came past from the eagles nest completely oblivious to the fact Nazism started here 30m above there heads. Its a pretty trippy place to sit and ponder history.
When my father and I visited the Obersalzberg in 1999 on our way home from Trentino province in Northern Italy an alter of sorts had been made at the ruins of the Berghof with candles and all. A strange sight.
I do not know if I have ever commented. I love your channel and the war stories. Your voice is not dry and makes each episode fascinating. I especially love videos like this, when there are obscure corners of WW2. Thank you!
@michaelmckeel3992 You are asking for proof of the death camps? Well you can visit them, documentaries were filmed at the camps in early 1945, the germans kept documents listing how they worked and germans have admitted working in them.

I visited the Mooslahnerkopf tea house this past September and the place was deserted except for a man and a woman sitting on the bench at the famous overlook. I walked up to the rail to take a few photos and said hello to the pair, they just looked at me and without any reply got up and headed back in the direction of the Berghof. I went to sit down on the bench and spotted two lit enclosed candles burning which I assumed they had left. I'm 68 years old and don't scare easily, but this sent a shiver up my spine.

this is a high probability, we have files and official letters written by Hess, in which he wrote on a typewriter or by hand, the words and expressions are similar to Mein Kampf. A man who graduated from high school and has an education. Hitler had a fiery talk, but he couldn't write. He's lazy and messy, the whole psychological thing is clear. Officially, according to Nazi-era, Hitler wrote it. He took royalties for the publication, but Hitler himself didn't know how to handle the matter either - Hess was the secretary and he provided him with money and privileges. He dealt with what he needed until 1940. He wrote, presented the document and Hitler simply signed. Same thing with Martin Borman from 1940-45. Therefore, there are suspicions that mein kampf was not Hitler's author. He only suggested ideas, but he couldn't write. If you know German, read Hitler letters to his sisters and mother, you will understand.
