Sorry to be offtopic but does anyone know a tool to get back into an instagram account?? I was stupid lost my password. I love any help you can offer me!
@Keenan Jaime Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
To help with the boredom part, I do want to note that you can buy upgrades for your knives on Ebay! If you are bored of your delica, or maybe your benchmade griptillian, you can buy like blue titanium screws, new pocketclips or coloured standoffs! (and a lot more!). This way you add something special to your knife, and maybe give it that little touch of colour that it needed! I hope this helps someone, this way you can make your knives "interesting" again. Even a simple handmade lanyard could help! (All of these options are really cheap!)
+sjoerd stop This is definitely true, and some knives (the Hinderers, particularly) have entire industries built on customization and upgrades. Good comment!
Excellent points as always Nick. I really like the rent idea, that has helped me deal with all the money I've lost buying and selling. It's nice to know there are so many others out there who love this stuff like I do. A support group indeed lol. As far as taking a bath goes, I spent two years lusting over the xm-18. Finally I got up the nerve to buy one. Sold my two Reates and threw in another $150 cash. It was an amazing quality pry bar. It took me a few months to admit that it was not all I had built it up to be in my mind. As the Hinderer bubble burst and they started becoming available for less and less I couldn't bring myself to sell it because of the bath I would take. So I held onto it for another 3 months until I finally admitted defeat and sold it for half of what I paid. That one still hurts. My name is Scott and I'm a knife and gear addict.
+Nick Shabazz I love this watching your videos. It's a beautiful thing. Not a bad way to spend my time by any stretch of the imagination. but seriously. keep it up dude. Your channel will grow if you keep up this quality.
Insightful and enjoyable vid. My biggest realization is that when one says "I would never spend $X (an outlandish but bugetable amount) for a knife/pen/bag, one will eventually spend $X for a knife/pen/bag that has become a holy grail type object.
OMG, I've been needing this video for so long! How come I found it only after 2 years? I tried to put an end to my knife addiction last year. I decided not to buy a single knife in 2017. Guess what. I've owned 1 wristwatch for 19 years no problem. After the knife-ban year I am on 10 pc. and counting. I do have a problem.
thanks your video. truly made me smile at myself. three years ago i went to replace an old boat knife and now have over twenty pocket knives and have given away a bunch more . i can no longer justify i need these knives for use. i just like them and playing with the different types etc. its a hobby now and i treat it such and love your rules and acceptance . thanks again for your insights.
this is why you are the best, you truly get it.. I think most of reviewers are justifying there purchase and some are just plane bought and paid for... I always feel your reviews are honest and definitely not an infomercial like some others... Once again, thanks for the reviews
Mr Nick: a hearty thank you, before I started watching your channel I knew the world was doomed, I had a supreme fear of gear withdrawal and saw no inherent good in the choices I have made in buying the latest-greatest edc. You have provided the light at the end of the tunnel and your not a train.
Your channel...sorry...support group is amazing. I’m new here and I’ve been watching tons of your videos and reading comments. This whole channel, including the comments, is so friendly and positive and your commentary is thoughtful and insightful. Thank you for your hard work. I’m looking forward to watching and reading more.
Great advice! Thank you Nick. This video should be on my list to review every year. There, i now have my first News Year resolution: Watch this video once in 2018. Either that, or just be happy with what I have, and stop giving in to curiosity about things that I don't have. As was said so well: "We can never get enough of what we don't need."
4 years late. This is some funny ass video. “We have a problem!” Entertaining reviews, one of the best channels I follow. Thanks for awesome real views.
One thing I have found helpful it taking a long time before making a purchase. Watching reviews, conducting research, and just plain old holding off can make the difference between a regrettable buy and a satisfying buy. In short, avoid impulsive purchases. It will save you money.
Great video! 1. Buying used or after the market discounts the hot must have item. Usually results in 30% discount. I found a $220 knife second hand knife on blade forums for $115.00 . If you buy right baths are less likely. Thanks for the video. Much appreciated 😎👍
I love the perspective of thinking of a trial as a "rental", if you do happen to lose money when you sell. We often do this with cars, but we accept that as inherent to having automobiles - and it's a lot more money!
Pro tip: Take pride in learning a few things along the way but don't be a know-it-all. I have learned more knife terms that I ever thought I would. I learned to spot a good deal when I see one. I have learned about the counterfeit problem. I have learned about many different kinds of steel and the process of making steel for knives. And so on ...
a lot of this feels relevant to the sage 3 I just bought. I want to love it, and justify it, but after 2 weeks it's just not clicking with me. reality of it is that it's just a subpar manix, while being a little prettier.
My suffering was mostly spending money and only enjoying the new stuff for a short while. I stopped buying knives since I realised all I carry for EDC is a Victorinox classic SD + Spartan or Climber and use an Opinel for most outdoor cooking/BBQ situations. A Cold Steel code 4 is sleeping in my car and at this point I have no idea if it has started rusting yet since it doesn't get used at all. With watches.. I found what I love, a Seiko SPB037J1 on a leather strap and a Seiko Samurai. I got a Fenix E05 as a keychain, works well for whatever I need it for. I can't remember ever buying any other flashlight to be honest. Personally, I enjoy new gear but only for a week, the high is gone fast.. Even if it is a bit better it isn't going to change my life in any meaningful way either so I decided to stop buying stuff xD I do still love to watch gear videos for some reason..
So many people buy things that they love the look of online only to hate how it feels or functions as soon as it arrives. It's just one of those things that comes with the death of most brick and mortar store shopping. If people could go to any knife counter at any sporting goods store and fondle a Sebenza, CRK may have 20-30% fewer sales. Hell, we've all ordered knives online that we easily could have picked up locally for the same price. People just have an amazing capacity for laziness and a desire for ultimate convenience.
At least buy from retailers that have a good return policy. Bladehq gives you 20 days to return a knife. Amazon is 30 days. I bought my first Buck knife, the vantage pro from Bladehq. I didn't like it from the beginning. Tiny flipper tab, hard to get a solid flip, very late lockup. I tried to convince myself to try to give it time, play with it and maybe after a week or two I'll find something to like about it. Nope, piece of garbage. Sent it back and got a WE 617. I always check the return policy before I buy an item. Had to send back a couple of Ganzos that were nightmares. I won't be buying any more of them. It's a very satisfying feeling sending back a knife and getting it out of my life, my money returned, and moving on to the next one.
Nice video. Very very true bi can totalky relate. I love the rent thought !! We are all sick. Just sick. Lol. I hate to admit it but i have taken a bunch of baths !! I am an addict !! I need help !!
At 6:40, where you start talking about thinking what you could do with the money instead of buying a knife... That's exactly how I reason many of my EDC gear purchases. I look at a bottle of liquor or a case of beer, and think "ehh...this will give me a few hours worth of enjoyment...but putting that $20 towards a ZT I'll carry every day, I'll get a lot more bang for my buck." ha
I am a professional guitarist, and I have taken MANY baths on gear and I don't regret many of them. I've had the chance to try out things, and now I know what I like and I know what I am willing to lose. I just made $950 off of a $150 purchase I sat on for a year because, at the time, I paid wayyyyy too much. Try new things, but your hobby isn't worth missing rent or your kids birthday party!
50 dollar bath jesus lol that doesn't seem bad? Things really have taken a dive in the swap. NOW you should expect to take an actual bath, 100 to 200 off face, for CRKs with less than 6 months on them. Also, the large inkosi is still the most comfortable knife I've ever held lol you built differently Mr. Shabazz!
The way i see it, for what i do with my knives: open boxes and make fun of my friends for being scared at first when i showed them my poop knife (kershaw wrinkle 2), a decent quality thirty dollar knife is fine. if i lose it ill be sad for a minute or two and buy another. but i couldnt bring myself to buy an expensive knife because i dont have a job yet, and would be unable to get out of bed in the morning if i lost it. yeah nick loves those $500+ pieces of artistic beauty and genius engineering, but truth is the delica (or maybe even one of the rats) is all he needs to cut stuff effectively. I hope i never go down the path he does however he is one my favorite youtubers and i do plan to buy a casio oceanus one day.
+Nick Shabazz thank you for replying. most youtubers, especially big ones , dont take the time to answer questions, when i come home i always check your channel for new vids.
Pro tip: Buy what you like, not what gets you likes. Unless, of course, what you like is getting likes. And that's okay, too, as long as you embrace it.
Got my Ganzo F7562( yes I know cheap chinese knock-off) Out of the box: This thing is awful. After disassembly: Much better not too bad. After about 100 flips: Fuck is this $15 the best in my collection?
Something in our lizard brains makes us feel a need to justify every purchase we make. The more money we spent, the more justified that purchase was, so we think. It's just one of those laws of the jungle.
My Contribution:. Your average knife fanatic is by nature promiscous in his affections. This applies to knives and wives, of course. You can't help yourself. So, just tell your wife that Nick, your therapy group leader, has given you permission not to beat yourself up about all this. She can call Nick herself if she needs a better explanation.
Yes it does 12:15 Yesterday i was looking at a knife and i have two in the mail on my way to my house and as I'm looking at it...i said... I've got a problem So after buying it this morning hahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahaha I said I'm done buying knives I've got enough I'm done FOR AT LEAST A YEAR So there I'm not buying any more knives for 366 days (this is after all, a leap year) And yeah You are an idiot if (i) mess up and buy the wrong one 😃

I was stupid lost my password. I love any help you can offer me!
@Kabir Phillip instablaster :)
@Keenan Jaime Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm.
Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Keenan Jaime it worked and I actually got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thank you so much, you saved my ass !
Best line: "If you made it this far, you have a problem." Yes, Yes I do.
+sjoerd stop This is definitely true, and some knives (the Hinderers, particularly) have entire industries built on customization and upgrades. Good comment!
At least my knife problem is way cheaper than my gun problem.
Dude...same here. 🤦🏻♂️
You guys are lucky.
Do not get into photography!
Sadly my knife habit is getting close to my firearms habit im considering knives that come close to my carry guns price
Don't get into antiques that gets quite pricey and I can't get out of the rabbit hole and I don't want to lmao
Knives are usually a cheaper habit, that’s why I’ve been buying more knives and less guns since I got married and had kids.
These bullet point vids are awesome Nick, great content!

.......totally
Your depth is shocking sometimes, Nick.
This is rapidly becoming one of my favorite support groups.
Everyone: into the tub!
I do my best to provide slightly more than anodization jokes. Very slightly.

Ciao a tutti, My name is Leonardo, I live in Toscana, Italy, and I'm addicted to American knives!
Very nice channel
Great video man... Great idea and funny. You keep getting better and better buddy!!!
Can you suggest some websites for buying and selling used knives? Thanks Ray
I almost always request gear at Christmas... That way Santa is taking the bath.

My name is Michael, and I am a GearHead!
hi michael!
Hello Michael.
Feel safe... no judgments here. Lol
Excellent, well observed vid. Thanks for posting.
Fun fact:A lot people would cry because they can't afford a custom knife, while a lot of people are grateful because they have food on their plate.
It is very important to recognize that we are discussing actual First World Problems.
Great advice. I'll carry this with me.
The answer to the first one is inspecting (blank) in a shop or asking someone you know who has (blank)
Mine was the sig p320 but luckily I had gotten it on sale and was able to sell it for more than I bought it.
So many people buy things that they love the look of online only to hate how it feels or functions as soon as it arrives. It's just one of those things that comes with the death of most brick and mortar store shopping.

"Taking a bath" = Getting hosed.
+Eric Salvatore Yep. That works too. Or "losing your shirt".

hey man... I needed that ... good to see your hands Nick :)
I loved this so much keep up the awesome videos man.
Drop the pretense you have a problem. Well said .
I always check a company's return policy BEFORE I place the order.
Jeff Liss Exactly...I'd rather spend more if I know I can return the item in 2-4 weeks. No harm, no foul.
That's why i buy what I can off Amazon
I have the exact same experience with mechanical watches
Nice video. Very very true bi can totalky relate. I love the rent thought !! We are all sick. Just sick. Lol. I hate to admit it but i have taken a bunch of baths !! I am an addict !! I need help !!
And don`t forget, the best knife has not yet been made....
Especially true for pocket knives that you never get to hold and play with for a week or so. A shot in the dark
This video stoped me from crying.
What knife got dropped to catch the ti-lock??
I wish I could buy an inkosi at retail price these days. One of these days a large insingo will come back in stock
You hit the hammer on the head... Nailed the head on the hammer?... Eh, English is hard, but you get my point. 👍😊
I hit 2 and 3 and am in the process of 5 with my ZT 0055...
the hinderer bubble was a lot bigger. xm18s sold for over 1k for a while;)
+shorty xmoshpigx Oh my. Yeah, nope.

Hi my name is Cory and I’m a gear addict. When I was really young my dad gave me a pocket knife and ever since I’ve been suffered.
ya I agree with the reviewing I will make a unboxing with first impressions then review is after like a month lol
Honeymoon periodXD
Good one Nick.
This is a really great video. Also I'd like to recommend you check out the Kershaw Chill for Thrifty Thursday, it's about ~$18
Knife that really grew on me? The endura. And all spyderco really.
I think my pig is whistling, a seldom case where a saying is multi lingual. We Germans also say you take a bath if your unlucky.
Haha love this support group!
I feel like you could replace knife or gear with relationship or significant other and this review would be just as accurate still.
baths, the guys who bought Hinderer's 3 years ago. I waited till the price came down to 41/2 clams...Feel much better about waiting, for once!
Yeah, the hinderer bubble was absolutely brutal.
I took a huge bath on my Direct Action Dragon 🐉 Egg backpack. There was so much hype and I hated it.
I was thinking I didn’t have a problem until I realized I bought 2 knives this week and I’m buying another tomorrow...
Not gonna lie this made me a little less depressed lol
Thank u nick!!!
now i know you haven't reviewed the urban trapper. when do you think the review will land.
Not sure. Trying to make sure I understand it first :)
+Nick Shabazz i see what you mean, but so far what are your impressions. wow this ironic considering the video.
wyatt breymeymeyer I like it, for a very light use EDC, but it's not without the bad and ugly.
+Nick Shabazz thank you for replying. most youtubers, especially big ones , dont take the time to answer questions, when i come home i always check your channel for new vids.
Hey, no problem. I enjoy interacting with people! God knows I'm not getting any other pay worth a damn for doing this :)
you should review the native 5
And you, my friend, need to watch my Native 5 review which went live a few weeks back.
I should've looked my bad
Why does this remind me of Alcoholics Anonymous?
I admit it "I have a problem".
good video , is there a cure ?
+Fred Lao Poverty helps. Graduate education in the US managed to curtail my knife-buying for a good long time.
Hi my name is Dutch Gunner and I am a gearohlic!
Hello Nick. I am Linus and I am an addict!
I consider only losing 50 or $75 to be a win not a bath LOL
Damn...I've got a problem
Pro tip: Buy what you like, not what gets you likes. Unless, of course, what you like is getting likes. And that's okay, too, as long as you embrace it.
Hahaha well shit... I have a problem 😂
Theres no going back
Got my Ganzo F7562( yes I know cheap chinese knock-off)
Out of the box: This thing is awful.
After disassembly: Much better not too bad.
After about 100 flips: Fuck is this $15 the best in my collection?
My name is Edgar, and I, am a gear head.
I don't have a watch/knife problem.

She is mistaken

👈🏻😨👍🏻 lol 😂 great video
Love your channel and your take on knives, but for the last 70+ years a gear head has been a car nut. Just saying....
It's like gambling or investing. Don't play with your rent money, and you'll be okay.

I took a $400 bath buying a Seiko Trume :(
Poop happens
Yes it does 12:15
Yesterday i was looking at a knife and i have two in the mail on my way to my house and as I'm looking at it...i said... I've got a problem
So after buying it this morning hahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahaha
I said
I'm done buying knives
I've got enough
I'm done FOR AT LEAST A YEAR
So there
I'm not buying any more knives for 366 days (this is after all, a leap year)
And yeah
You are an idiot if (i) mess up and buy the wrong one 😃
Don't go online buying knives when you have been drinking.
