I have a 114e that I acquired 10 years ago and it has been an outstanding stage guitar. It really is a lot of guitar for the money. Interesting short story...A single Mom attended a Taylor seminar where Bob Taylor was present, and while he was taking some questions, the Mom explained that her teenage son wanted a Taylor acoustic very much, and she was on a very limited budget, so which Taylor would be the best option for her to purchase? Mr Taylor replied "the 100 series"...Then she asked him which guitar would he recommend for down the road when she can afford something else...Again he replied, "the 100 series". That tells me a lot about the guy and how much he believes in his products, from top to bottom. To be clear, I'm not a Taylor fan boy at all, but I do like them, and their 100 and 200 series are really good guitars, no matter the price. Sorry for writing a book. I thought it was a story worth sharing. Rock on, Jeremy!

I dropped $1200 on an almost new Taylor 214ce BLK DLX (I call her Black Beauty) and I do not regret it for a second. I used to play a Seagull and all I did was strum 4 dumb chords to accompany myself leading worship at church. I never played it just to play guitar, and never tried to learn anything new.
Since I bought my Taylor, all I want to do is learn new songs, new chords, new styles, write new songs, etc etc. I have branched out SO much in my playing in the past couple months since I got this thing! I’m so much more confident in my playing, too. It just sounds SO good and I love it more every day. And all of a sudden I’m collecting and playing other instruments, too. Like a cello, ukelele, and U bass (the cutest little thing ever).
This Taylor took me from a very basic church worship leader to feeling like an actual musician. I also switched churches and had a bunch of other big life transition happen in between guitars, so that contributes, but I have to say, this guitar has been a very good companion to me.

I just bought my first Taylor a month ago. The 214ce-k. I usually prefer Martins in the store as a side by side comparison but this one spoke to me loud and clear. I couldn’t forget it and had to buy it the next day. Fortunately, I had some trade ins that helped. It’s far better than any acoustic I’ve had or thought I’d own. I’ve been thoroughly enjoying it daily and don’t see that changing. It makes me want to play more and create new songs. Glory to God. Jesus is Lord. Amen.

I have a pair of Taylors that I picked up used and have played for a couple of years, an 856ce 12-string, and an '03 814ce 6-string. I got the 12-string first and loved it so much, I picked up the 6 string when the right used one came along. A super easy to play guitar, with a pickup system that was head and shoulders over the entry level piezo pickups I'd tried before them. That Taylor 814 was my main guitar until I since found a couple of used Larrivee guitars, a '97 D-03 which is my campout guitar, and a '15 L-03RE which has that great LR Baggs Anthem soundhole mounted pickup, which is my new favorite amplified acoustic sound.
All fine guitars, and they all have their strengths for sure. Right now I'm occasionally scanning the local shops for a good used Martin D-18 or D-28, I've played a couple of nice new ones, but they're a little out of my price range new. I'd have to thin out the stable if so, and even though I only have so many hours in the day for playing, I'm going to have a hard time letting go of one of the Taylors or Larrivees.

I also have a couple of Taylors, a GAMC, which is a fantastic finger style guitar with a cedar top and mahogany back and sides and a 914c, which has an Englemann spruce top and rosewood back and sides. I've purchased 3 Taylors in the last few years,( 150E 12 string, 322ce12 fret, and a GS Mini rosewood) I still have all of them because they always sound great and the playability is awesome! I have purchased 4 used guitars in my lifetime.(1976 Martin D41, Guild D4, Epiphone FT145, and a Gibson J100) I still have 3 of them. I'm 65 years old. I sold the right handed D41 I had converted to a lefty because in my younger years, I needed the money. When I retired in 2017, I replaced it with a new left handed Martin D41 because I regretted selling the old one. I will buy other guitars in the future, however, the guitars I have now all sound great to me, and have a story. And that story is always positive! For what it's worth,, Before adjusting that truss rod it would be a great idea to put a humidifier in the box for a few days and check it again. Make sure the buzz isn't coming from the first 3 frets. Then if you still have to adjust the truss it should be a minute amount. Taylor uses coated elixir strings from the factory. Personally I like Martin SP for sound but the Elixirs last a little longer due to corrosion resistance from the coated strings.

Bob Taylor mentions often that it was a good thing that when he started building guitars, he hadn't learned about the set necks, so he figured, "Why not a bolt-on neck like the electric guitars?" So we have the Taylor NT neck that is matched at the factories, playability adjusted with CNC-machined shims, and if the neck ever needs to be re-set, it's a five-minute job for a technician at a Taylor Service Center (silver or above), rather than hours for the removal and re-set of a glued neck. Jeremy definitely got a great deal! I've found enough of those on Reverb to last me awhile... Nice people that I've dealt with, too.

Fret buzz is because the guitar is too dry. It needs humidified. It should have relief in the neck for sure, but it also needs to be between 40-60% humidity. This is the same range Martin recommends.

We have one in our band it sounds brilliant and never feeds back. The tone is sweet. It is an older version of this model, same shape I don’t believe it’s laminated either,if that makes any difference. Just has T on top for a logo.

@Papaw richard yeah man, they are great guitars. Amazing value for money. I have a ac422ce that blows my mind. I had a Taylor 810ce. That was the most expensive acoustic I have owned. This is a third of the price and just as good. Better even. Nitro finish and impeccable build quality. I’ve never owned such a balanced string to string acoustic before.
I had a sb57 and I have a sb59 on the way. Fantastic guitars and the semi hollow stuff they make is amazing too. I love Eastman. I’m trying to scoop up as many as I can afford. If they would make a s-type I would only own Eastman guitars.

Just bought a 224CE-K DLX (Koa) Taylor. Owned a Martin OOO-15M and it had neck separation issues (after some research, wasn’t too happy with how Martin attaches some of their necks). Was looking at a Martin OM-28 or OMJM until I saw the Taylor Koa for $850 mint/used (the Martin’s were all over $3000 used so I figured I would wait on those). The market is telling me Martin’s are better (and I like the tradition of Martin) but every time I spend time playing different brands in guitar stores, my brain/hands gravitate toward the Taylor’s. Also, all reviews say Koa is bright (maybe too bright) but I find the Koa is just right (between the mahogany & maple). I hope it ages well with me - we will see. 👍 Played the new MIM Martin SC-13E and it was a bit funky but pretty damn nice too.

Re your comments at 9:41: Martin Retros aren’t nickel bronze, at least as D’addario makes it. They are Monel, which is a different composition. I like them on my Taylor also, a GS mini, because I like a more fundamental sound for strumming. Friendly explaination why one might put “retro” strings (which to me is more marketing than description) on a “forward” designed guitar.

From my experience listening to Taylor vs Martin, besides the general Martin for the low end and Taylor for the bright notes, when you strum a Taylor, you really hear all 6 strings individually, which may make them want you to play open chords on them. Probably why they are "preferred" for P&W as well, although our WL always plays a Martin, while his primary rhythm guitarist plays a Taylor (but also owns a number of Martins). Just a thought.

It sounds beautifull on it's own but I can play and sing and it just blends perfectly. From country to pop, it just seems to fit well... I also love the grand auditorium body size, very confortable! If this guitar gets ajusted properly, I'm sure it will make someone happy.

I used Taylors for 20 years but had to abandon them because of repeated problems with dissonant overtones. After the third one I went to Martin and never looked back. The first Taylor I had, a custom 510, had no dissonant overtones but started cracking in multiple places despite my maintaining perfect humidity. If that guitar were more stable I would have kept it.

Jeremy: when I look at guitars under $1,000 I evaluate guitar and case separately. If you got a nice OHSC included in this purchase, that’s worth $150-$200 all day long. Take that from $ 625 and you only paid $425 to $475 for the guitar. Great job!

You should try a Taylor with a mahogany top like a 324. The Hog top lessens the jingly jangly sound of the top strings, increases the bass response, and warms up the sound.

I have a Taylor 214ce DLX that I simply love however I don't really care for cutaways... guess i am more traditional... I have been searching for a NEW 214e and found that they have been discontinued by Taylor...seems Taylor is predominantly CE now....I also have a Martin Dreadnought Jr. that is my Travel guitar that I also love....anyway I digress... were you impressed enough by the 214e to say it could be a mainstay guitar for someone like myself? thanks....ps I have been searching for Worship group that would accept a beginner since us Catholics only believe in the Organ...

Ahh my friend, I know this is an older video. But because it doesn’t say Martin or Gibson on the neck you discount it. Discount in the sense that it’s not on the same level as these vintage guitars you buy and sell. Although phenomenal how much money is spent on neck resets. And refrets? I’ve been playing for over 30 yrs. I have yet to see a Gibson out of the box that can even begin to compete with a Taylor. With that said most martins don’t compete either. I just bought a 214e dlx just like the one you bought in this video. Trust me I’ve played countless Gibson’s and actually passed up a j45 for this one. These guitars are phenomenal and will serve you for years relatively cost free as compared to neck resets and repair costs associated with the older martins and Gibsons, as well as the more expensive boutique builders. I appreciate what your doing and I do love your videos. But don’t discount these guitars

Jeremy you got a lot of guitar for the money. So get that guitar humidified in a case ASP then it wouldn't dry out. If the fret ends are still in the wood than the fret board hasn't shrink yet which is a good sign. After make the truss rod adjustment and then let us hear it again. Thanks!
