“San Francisco in the middle of the sixties was a very special time to be a part of. Maybe it was, Maybe not, in the long run ... but no explanation, no mix of words or music or memories can touch that sense of knowing that you were there and alive in that corner of time and the world. Whatever it meant...” -Hunter S. Thompson (fear and loathing in LV)
The Human Be-In was maybe the high point for the San Francisco scene in the 60s. Things were still vibrant and fresh, with months to go before the mass influx of the "Summer of Love" overwhelmed the situation. Thank you for this excellent footage!
Thanks for posting! A beautiful day (in January), the Grateful Dead, dancing, costumes, even babies. It doesn’t get better than that, and I guess it never did.
Love this early dead, all having fun and staying loaded man,i am in the 60s in my head,i will stay there.Happy place,Love and respect to all Dead Heads world wide.
Wow what a treasure! Methinks some of Owsleys finest was being consumed...perhaps by the camera person lol. What a beautiful time and place to be a human bean 🌠
The summer of 1967, the Summer of Love, was not quite as magical as the city was earlier, at, for instance, the way you see it here. In the summer, the Haight was inundated with teenage runaways, loads of gawkers, too many people having bad trips on the streets etc.
Right across the way from where Jerry would get busted 18yrs later smh. I think about that situation sometimes and it really blows my mind Garcia ended up in a public park, in a car with expired plates, and all that shit on him. Dark days indeed. Also a good example of how suffocated he felt within the GD juggernaut. Tbh what made him famous also destroyed him. Imo the GD didn't necessarily "owe" it to their crew to keep goin. Actually I think they're even unionized so they would have found work...not as fun but work lol. Even if Jerry made it out that last rehab he immediately would have been put back under pressure. Idk for sure but I think they already were mail ordering tickets for a fall tour smh. That means he would have checked out of rehab and immediately got on a tour bus.🤷♂️
While there were certainly scene of the Grateful Dead in this film, very little of the music is the Grateful Dead. None of the singing or flute playing is from anyone in the Grateful Dead! The singing and flute sounds like someone added it years later!
I was told it might be Phil's Lesh's child. He was announced as, "The Prince of Haight Street" ! I was in the front leaning on stage. I kept the flag for years and it now resides with a movie producer. Mouse silk screened yellow and green marijuana leaves centrally radiating outward inside a circle. The flag is red cotton.
I LIVED OFF OF TELEGRAPH IN OAKLAND 74'-75' NEVER TO GO BACK, DID ATTEND UC BERKELEY BUT A CRAZY PLACE TO PUT DOWN ROOTS...............GOOD OLE NEW ENGLAND, YEA MAN!

Charles Lloyd sat in on flute and vocals with the Grateful Dead at The Great Human Be-In
This still doesn't sound like the Dead to me
@@ThisLoveIsSweetRight, they didn’t even play Touch of Grey ! 🤣🤣🤣
Does anyone know who the flag waving kid on stage is? He's having as much fun as everyone else!
