- TalkTV’s Ian Collins is joined by Military Historian Andy Robertshaw, who gives his opinion on a group of men dressing in SS uniforms at a festival in Sheringham, Norfolk.
The festival is meant to celebrate 1940s Britain, and the men were taken off the premises “for their own safety”, according to organisers.
Marshals escorted the men out of the town and police said they were investigating a reported assault.
Graham Deans, organiser of the weekend, said: "Their mannerisms and the dress was inappropriate for the event, this regalia is extremely inappropriate, offensive and disrespectful,"

There is nothing wrong dressing in these uniforms, just as there's nothing wrong blacking up or whiting up for a fancy dress party!

Didn't Prince Harry wear a German Army uniform. If it is good enough for him it is good enough for me.
Does he care about people wearing USSR uniform or is that acceptable because they won WW2?
Nobody was wearing USSR uniforms, so why would he be upset about that?

I dont know? Yes SS units did commit alot of atrocities and war crimes from the evacuation at Dunkirk, the battle of the bulge to name but two out of many . But? Surely at re enactments there would be no historical and factual elements with just a bunch of old fat guys dressed as us airborne or Tommies?. Without the enemy you dont have a re enactment of a battle scenario,you literally would have a 'Dads army ', training exercise.
I imagine if they had dressed as NKVD officers it wouldn't have ruffled any feathers. Remember everybody: RIGHT WING EXCLUSIVELY BAD, LEFT WING CUDDLY, CUTE AND PROGRESSIVE.
It wasn't the uniforms that did it,, it was the goose stepping and nazi salutes that triggered anger. I was there exhibiting vehicles.
I would love it if some people came dressed up as concentration camp victims, star of David and all. Im sure there would be outrage, but then i could call them holocaust deniers and that would be the end of the arguement.

Personally, I served in two armies and saw active service in both and that was quite enough for me, so I have no interest in such events, having had more than my fill of the real thing and do not even attend Armistice Day events as I do not need to attend parades wearing medals to remember my friends and comrades 365 days a year, but I respect those that do and understand why they do.
So the historian has a reason not to like German WW2 Reenactment. A valid reason but a biased opinion all the same

Its a ww2 event... the germans were in ww2 or do you want to delete it? What if they dressed as communists, russian troops or even Stalin would that be ok for you?
