    I have a soft spot for that stadium, because it always felt 'right' size for what it is. Other programs in the MW are going big on their stadiums and they are always empty which makes for a pretty depressing atmosphere. It's hard to get people to college games in the Bay Area, so as weird as it looks to us, I think SJSU did the right thing. Thanks for letting us know the grass will eventually open up for seating ... boy, I'd like to bring a picnic to a game some day 😀

    Last time I was at Spartan Stadium all of that was a grass covered hill, and the time before that I had the front row right at the 50 with the seats that used to be there. That whole thing was pretty run down so what they have now is an upgrade. It jus seems weird though.

      It really isn't all that weird when you think about how other college stadiums have a similar feature. Baylor's McLane Stadium and Clemson's Death Valley are stadiums with a grass area close to the field. You also have numerous stadiums where an athletic building borders one side of the stadium. The only difference between these and Spartan Stadium is that they are located in the end zone.

      @@thetouchbackThat space grass berm if not used is such a wasted space though. Air Force is doing something similar to their stadium renovation as SJSU but keeping the traditional bowl seating in tact for the first 30 or so rows.

    Basically no fans on that side of the stadium. Feel very odd at best. Unfortunate the cameras face that way as well.

    • @thetouchback
      @thetouchback  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No one says it is weird that one end zone at Oklahoma State is basically an office building with a scoreboard hanging off it. And it will look different when fans are able to sit on the grass area below the concourse on that side.

    I was there,and though I didn't venture to that side of the field, I enjoyed seats on the 35-yard line on General Admission tickets. Great fun! And Crazy George, too!

      I'm not going to lie, I was surprised Crazy George made it to the San Jose State game after seeing him climbing the stands at PayPal Park in the 80th minute the night before. I should know better by now but the dude keeps going strong.

    Have you been to PayPal Park/Earthquake Stadium or whatever it is right now? Seems like a nice but simple MLS venue, and interesting how the open end faces the airport

    • @thetouchback
      @thetouchback  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I actually went to PayPal Park the night before this game. I couldn't help but think it feels unfinished. I also find it odd they went with the three-sided layout a decade after that trend had passed.

      @@thetouchback You have to have space for the largest outdoor bar in north america.

    • @thetouchback

      @@MrCho14 And when you are sitting in the stands, the bar doesn't even look all that big. Also, why pay for tickets to go to a game and stand at a bar facing away from the action?

    • @thetouchback
      @thetouchback  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cameronmacpherson1959 It was cost and time related. The project was delayed for a few different reasons and there became a real need to just get it done. My biggest complaint though is that the two ultras sections at each end do two totally different things to create a very disjointed atmosphere.

    "Bladder discipline!??" 😵‍💫Ha! Yeah, the old photos of Spartan Stadium brings back memories as well as the footage under the concourse. That seems to be the same. Well, did you go with someone else? Someone who could have saved your seat? That would be the way to go, to be able to grab a bite to eat or a beverage, or the restroom 😆

    • @thetouchback
      @thetouchback  ปีที่แล้ว

      I went with a buddy but I always feel bad about saving unreserved or unassigned seats. Then again, I have a very weird fan code of conduct that I try to abide by when attending sporting events.

    Who wants to stare at a concrete bunker that spans one whole side of the stadium? It was a charming stadium and they could have restored its ambiance. Truth be told they don't get more than 4,000 people actually in the stadium except for Fresno State fans.

    Good report but you left out the most important thing - the price. You talk about the affordability of the GA tickets while neglecting to mention the price. So I will. GA tickets are $20. That’s all, $20. If you don’t score free on-street parking, it’s $30 in the parking garage at 10th and Alma.

    Fresno State should be embarrassed by this! I would much rather come to a game up north. And you whipped our butts this year. I’m also an Arizona fan so I’m sorry for the coaching carousel but you have much more attractive facilities to Fresno and I hope you can capitalize on your recent success and better facilities. C’mon Silicon Valley hook these guys up and we know there are fans of football that should love the small town feel. Keep it affordable and think families first and you will succeed

    I'm an SJSU alum and they completely botched this renovation. It was a stupid idea from the jump and it just looks hideous to have a half a stadium with an IKEA-looking building just sitting there. What a waste of money from our donors. Took 4 years to build that? Why can't we just have a normal looking stadium all around man. It looks ridiculous and why we have the worst stadium in college football.

  • @Lawomenshoops
    @Lawomenshoops 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The admin is so stupid! A Stanford booster, who is a big fan of Bill Walsh, was going to donate the entire amount to build this facility. His only request was to name it after Bill Walsh. Walsh is an alum. They said No! My understanding is that this could’ve been finished 2 to 3 years earlier, if they accepted that offer
