When it comes to the Cow Palace, it would later serve as the temporary home for two teams with San Jose in their name as the Earthquakes would play their indoor games there for the 1975 & 1976 NASL indoor seasons. Then the Sharks of the NHL would play their first 2 seasons there before moving to the SAP Center in 1993. As for the Oakland Coliseum it also hosted indoor soccer (the Earthquakes would split their indoor games between it & aforementioned Cow Palace) & was also the home of the California Golden Seals for all of their existence in the NHL from 1967-1976 before they disastrously moved to Cleveland (becoming the Barons in the 1976-77 season).

I had trouble getting into the rugby network this year otherwise I would watch. The NY team left, so I cant go to any games. It doesn't matter too much. The URC is good on florugby and peacock had the world cup and 6 nations. I think the sabercats and seawolves and freejacks are the best. I think they are losing money. I don't care if Japan or another country take it over. Maybe it would be better that way.

I started playing in '72 in the USA. There was/is club rugby thriving in the US., but it's amature. You actually have to pay to play but you can continue to play after college. Most graduates will end up working in moderate sized cities most of which do have a local club. The problem is HEALTHCARE. Without that even minor injuries can become problematic.

Completion is easy to explain to an american audience. Its counterpart in american football would be saying what percentage of drives stalled and what percentage of drives were kept successfully going. It's easier to explain than rugby union to an american audience because the 6 tackle requirement in rugby league is very similar to the idea of downs in american football.

Really interesting video regarding rugby development in America. However, from my point of view, super rugby and MLR would have mutual interest of the creation of super rugby team in Hawaii, it would be the good cultural mix between Pacific and US. Today from what I know (and I don't know everything) there is no big team from big league in Hawaii? So why there would be a team in MLR which is at the moment a "minor" league?

I think it's all a question of promotion and the correct promotion. For many americans, it's a competitor to A. Football. The MLR needs to really push the parallel but also the difference and trying to make it an "american" sport. I.m.o. Nefree Jacks have done it the best sofar.

The AFL reached its peak popularity prior to Disney purchasing ESPN- and during this era ALL the sports ESPN covered had what was at the time was an industry-best production value and the best broadcasters out there and all that good stuff. It was the mid-nineties and shows like Around The Horn def didnt exist.

The Arena league needs to drop their style and merge with the UFL. Still play in indoor stadiums but use the cities with dome stadiums to place hold the teams. Maybe Minnesota, Detroit Dallas New Orleans and Atlanta. Vegas too.

The major flaw with this logic is that NFL teams are more likely to pay attention to and sign local UFL players if they play in their backyard. The goal for The UFL is to be an alternative source of talent for The NFL while being an entertainment product. Therefore, it makes sense for their teams to play in NFL cities, in front of NFL scouts and fans etc.

Do a Melbourne Rebels-type story-- i.e., how a team that should have been folded got carried till the end of the season mostly because it probably would have been cheaper, the alternative costing too much in lawyer fees when all the contracts involving that team were going to be broken and would have been in bankruptcy court for years. My suspicion is that that's what may have happened here.

Very nice positive video. But I don't think MLR is going to be the next big sports league. The next big sports league will be the WNBA. This is because it is the undisputed number one women's basketball league and because new players like Caitlin Clark and Cameron Brink are making it more attractive to the public. It is no longer just for angry lesbians, although the lesbians are now even angrier than ever.

Most the Rugby League people commenting on this are delusional. How is Rugby League going to expand around the world when no one plays the game at a grass roots level anywhere. Even in Aus states where there is reasonable grass roots you may only get 10-15,000 people to many games. The game is crap to play and while NRL is very professional and done well at a high level for TV purposes most people around the world love playing union at a grass roots level and that is why union has grown massively around the world even though union is terrible at professional sport and marketing. Rugby League is what it is so just enjoy it as a niche sport

This is my favourite of your videos that I've seen. I'm in London, and so idly wonder sometimes whether the NFL will expand outside the US; while it would be cool, I'm not sure it would be wise or good business. As much as I'd kind of like to see a NFL team in London, I have a suspicion that the demand for American Football is so much higher in Germany than it is in the UK that the right place for the first European NFL team is actually Germany. I mention this here and now by direct analogy to the Sunwolves in rugby in Japan as described in this video. If Japanese domestic rugby was strong enough that a Japanese team in another country did not catch attention, is domestic American Football strong enough in Germany that a NFL team in Germany would not catch attention? My suspicion is that the NFL has so much more history and authenticity than the URC, relative to its sport, that it would blow away a domestic competition in a way that the URC in Japan could not do.

The aru need to invest in making Brisbane and Sydney rugby professional. A 12 team promotion and relegation “national” competition between the two cities clubs . All clubs be at least semi pro and the aru or tv to subsidise the national comp . 8 team semis All teams that miss finals are relegated for both grand finalists in Sydney and Brisbane comps. With this there will be way more pathways young talent that won’t be lost to league or the game altogether

But in all actuality I think there's room for 2 healthy leagues, not 5 The IFL is on this steady upward trajectory that I honestly wouldn't do anything there. However, with the AFL, NAL, and AIF's overall, uh, health, I honestly think all 3 leagues should find a way to form a healthy 16-team league and hunker down and build themselves up.

I heard about the new AFL league because the league I use to play for A7FL (which is basically the video game “NFL TOUR” in real life) planned to have a some sort of merger kinda like how the UFL guys can get signed by a NFL team. I knew off the jump it was going to be a crap show if you’re going to scout out those players they don’t take the game seriously.
