    Something to note is that the term Transracial originally applied to people of a specific race being adopted into families of another race - which is an important facet of many people’s identity

    these people didn't grow up getting told their homemade lunch with kimchi and fish in it was "disgusting" and "smells awful." they didn't have people go up to them and pull their eyelids back saying "ching chong" to them. they weren't the ones getting attacked for "eating bats" and "causing covid" in 2020. they just want the supposed "benefits" of being Korean because its attractive to them but don't realize the actual discrimination those people face, which is what i think is the most insulting part of the whole RCTA thing. like not to say that you have to go through all that awful crap to be a "real Korean," but its clear the way these people victimize themselves for being white that they don't even take any of the actual racism going on towards Asian people seriously

    Dude I'm argentinian and I've been living in usa for a few months, and one random girl from school sat down besides me and said like "Hi. I heard you are latina. You dont look good trying to play white. Don't wear that. Own your culture 😊"
    I was wearing a maxi skirt and a sweater. How is that me trying to be white/american??? Like, girl. Shut up.
    Luckily I became friends with a hondurian girl, they put us together in spanish class lol like "well here you go, another spanish speaking person", and she told me that this girl was a bit obsessed with being considered latina, cause she had ONE mexican grandparent.

    I think this is definitely something deeper. I know that a lot of people dislike ethnic features of their communities that they can’t change without surgery. These community’s are for sure full of young people and teens who have such high insecurity and want to change their race to somehow become a different person and think that changing their race would make their life’s so much better. This is obviously a delusion and an escape from their reality. I really hope they get the help they need to love themselves.

    as someone who is east asian adopted into a white family… i cannot even imagine what this trend would’ve made me feel as a teenager who deeply resented being asian. anyone who genuinely has this mindset has no idea what kind of discrimination asians in the west experience nor do they have any real understanding or respect for our cultures (exemplified so well by how they love to flatten japanese tv and korean music and chinese makeup all into one asian image). i also do honestly believe that the majority of rtcas are trolls lol.

    I love that it’s only ‘trendy’ races that these kids will consider. It’s ignoring the struggle that some ethnicities get for just existing in a structurally prejudiced society. It’s like a very surface level understanding of a culture and an identity. We ethnic minorities and poc aren’t a monolith. I get cultural appreciation, I love learning and appreciating different cultures but I feel this is tone deaf. I’ve experienced racism my whole life and I’m white passing. I can’t imagine how other people would feel about this who have had more negative experiences around their identity. Funnily enough ‘orientalism’ was very trendy before and seems to be again.

    though race is a man-made concept, it is factored and determined by variables that are unable to be changed such as: where you were born, what race your direct family is/was, what cultures you were brought up if it was a major influence of your upbringing. these are all variables that cannot be changed because they already happened, in the past.
    and we all here know, but if there's some dumb f*ck out there who can read this, NO. it's not like being transgender, what tf?? and i will use kid gloves to lightly explain how this is different: transgender is knowing you are not the gender you were assigned at birth by someone else based off of gen!tals from a man-made concept of gender to predetermine who you are before you can tell someone else "hey, actually incorrect guess buddy" umm....and also a fun fact, transgenderism and nonbinary genders have been around longer than the english language has been, so....

    it's honestly so weird and sad seeing people whose insecurities about their own features and appearance are so strong that they push themselves into this strange fetishization of asian features and culture (or at least, what they perceive as asian features and culture). i think it's also important to point out how only certain parts of "asian culture" (mainly east asian) are being fetishized and perceived as cool and interesting by society as a whole, while other races and ethnicities that are demonized. that's why almost all of the RCTA/ECTA people you see are claiming to be korean, japanese, etc. and not nigerian, indian, etc. it's insane that me and my sibling are sometimes afraid of being seen as these weird, RCTA/ECTA, asian-fishers when we actually are half-asian and those aspects of ourselves ARE true to us.

    I shouldn't need to say this but here: Gender identity is an innate part of a person's identity, if you take a cis boy and raise them as a girl, they will still identify as a boy, and vise versa. This is incredibly well known and there are cases of it like David Reimer, and tens of thousands of intersex cases.
    It's a part of your identity that you are born with, as much as your personality. Race is an entirely defined as being cultural and sociological, (it's made up) and saying otherwise is incredibly racist.

    When I was a lot younger and first starting to use social media I deeply envied people who aren't white for their beauty. I fully believed it was impossible to be beautiful if you were white. Now that I've matured and grown, I can see why that was a bad thing. But even still it's hard not to compare myself to people who genetically just have different features as me even still now. Had I vocalized those feelings and received support, I might have tried something like this. But I was 13. Kids don't have developed brains and yeah they can understand basic rights from wrongs, but a lot of schools and parents don't teach that this type of stuff is wrong.

      i had to think on this for a while before too, it basically just boils down to the fact that gender is a social construct; a made up “rule” that realistically means nothing. it’s not based on anything concrete other than the idea of what it means to be any gender. rcta isn’t the same because your race and culture is something that cannot be changed, it’s based on where you come from, genetics, etc. also feel like i should include that transracial’s true meaning is someone from one race being adopted by someone of another race. might be helpful to keep that in mind as well since people unfortunately use the term to mean both and causes a lot of confusion, probably intentional honestly

      I think it has to with the fact that gender isn't something you get from your parents, race is. Everyone has a little bit of the other sex in them, the same can't be said about race, we all get a 50/50 for our sex but not for race (yes I know that gender and sex are different but thus is the best explanation I could come up with)

    I honestly cant make fun of or hate RCTA girls because i know they're probably just very young and insecure like i was in school when i had brief weeb phase of wanting to be Japanese.
    Girls are exposed to unrealistic beauty standards since gaining consciousness and every single one of them is deeply insecure before even fully knowing what that means, if anything girls wanting to change their race for "more trendy one" makes me sad because i know they're very pretty but at some point of their short lives were purposely made to feel ugly. They probably got into kpop as form of escapism, to find community and have fun but instead were exposed to more beauty standards and that messes with young brain a lot.
    I hope the best for them, i hope they grow up into loving their bodies and all their human imperfections.

    I think it's a bit different than how you're presenting it-- it's a bunch of really self-conscious children who have ended up on the wrong side of the internet and have internalized a message that their race is bad/wrong and they want to change it (especially the person who made the tumblr post). Like the person from the tumblr post is clearly a child who has ended up on the wrong side of the internet and has internalized a self-loathing message--- hearing that post made me deeply sad for that person who thinks so poorly of themself and thinks the whole word is against them, and you implying that they are in fact athe awful person that they feel like they're being accused of being just. Cmon. That's a child who needs therapy, not a closeted racist.

    • @MillennialHippie
      @MillennialHippie ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Those things aren't mutually exclusive. Racism is taught, and unfortunately some kids don't get more perspective and understanding until it's too late.

    • @humanbeing1248
      @humanbeing1248 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @MillennialHippie that's true, but a child saying "I feel like the whole world hates me because of my race" isn't racist-- it probably would be if it stemmed from nothing or if it was said by an adult/someone who's educated enough to know better. But this is a child expressing a valid emotional response to stumbling on a side of the internet that no one should be on. I have seen fan spaces online (I won't name names but there are some pretty toxic ones out there) where ppl use "you're probably white" as a "gotcha" or comeback to any disagreement. And I don't mean racial-related disagreement, I mean "hey I like this character" "shut up you're probably white".
      If it makes it any better, I'm not white so this isn't coming from a place of defensiveness, but a child who needs therapy is not someone who should be the prime example of a closeted or soon-to-be racist. That kid's clearly going through stuff and feels awful about themself, and there are actually real racists in the world, this self conscious child is not even remotely a problem

      if you give context, it would make a good argument. But the whole "shut up your white" thing is probably in response to a character being a racist stereotype or something. Because I've been in fandom for a long time and 9 times out of 10, that's what happens. A lot of the time it is a gotcha because guess what, white people don't understand and choose to not understand why something is harmful to a racial minority.

      @boolowoertheenappydreaded5359 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@humanbeing1248 i think its important to remember that there are other ppl on the other side of this *(ppl who are subjugated & oppressed irl on the basis of race who are now being dehumanized - aka made into costumes without their feelings or struggles being considered), white children aren't the only one's that exist and the ppl being primarily hurt by this issue are in fact east asian or other poc ppl, whether teenagers or not. regardless of the motive, appropriating and caricaturizing another race will always be racist, and while these ppl probably do need help, their actions in no way exist in a vacuum.

    I personally think that everyone, regardless of race/ethnicity, is born into societies/culture that is always “othering” a different societies/cultures. People think racism is just inherently white vs black, but racism is rampant in many different cultures and is indoctrinated into children at ages that can’t tell right from wrong. Racism is systemic. So to think only white people are racist is a very western view; and disregards other racist tendencies many other races/ethnic groups carry. Ex: lighter skin tones preferable in Asian cultures, Hutus vs Tutsis, indigenous groups va colonizers, etc. This is my opinion and I’d be happy to discuss anyone’s thoughts/ideas, just please be kind :)

Hijras on the Indian subcontinent and kathoeys in Thailand have formed trans-feminine third gender social and spiritual communities since ancient times, with their presence documented for thousands of years in texts which also mention trans male figures. Gender is based society and Individuality research .Race is skin colour genetic and communal if you did a DNA test it couldn't tell you if you were a male or female , it could tell if you were you are from though IT WOULDN'T K!LL YOU RIGHT WINGS SO READ A BOOK

    Can we not generalize this across the whole generation? I love your content but it's kinda annoying to constantly have generalizations drawn about a whole generation. We talked about this topic in my lifespan development class the other day and everyone agreed that you can't transition to a different race. The example we used was Rachel Dolezal who was the president of the NAACP and who is 45 years old. This isn't only Gen-Z

    to me, saying all white people are inherently racist is an acknowledgement of the system we all grow up in. it’s impossible to NOT benefit from white privilege as a white person almost anywhere in the world. it takes serious effort to unlearn white supremacy and if we’re being honest, most of us don’t even try, and those that do will often consider themselves “not racist” after learning the tiniest bit about systemic racism (as an example). in my opinion there is no way to escape this inherent bias as a white person, hence, all white people are inherently racist
    edit: to clarify, i think “all white people are inherently racist” is shorthand for “as a white person, you are not in a position to declare that you are NOT racist, because you will never fully grasp the impacts of white supremacy on everything you do and believe.”

    • @MrJcast007

      But can't we say the same thing about people whose ancestors experienced racism. Like my grandpa from what he told me he experienced wasn't horror movie levels but he has experienced things as a soilder when he would go to bars but I feel like that victim mentality people have now limits us
      (I'm not trying to have an argument just a genuine conversation)

  • @MrJcast007

    I might get hate for this but I feel like white ppl are more oppressed online media I can't speak for person..I have experienced some racism in my life but being in a mainly Hispanic area it's not all that much I get treated differently. If anything I always see now that white people are just the target for some things they can't control. Not to say racist white people don't exist. But idk I feel like we live in a world where we can't just love and wild ideas exist cause we can't love ourselves enough.
