    • @sweekley92
      @sweekley92 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I think wigs and relaxing are fine as long as the reasoning isn't a historically bad one. Like not fitting in or wanting to fit societies foolish idea of beauty. I'd never get a relaxar again but sometimes I'm tempted because straight hair seemed easier albeit unhealthy. But wigs, once I have the money I'll be buying at least one. Wigs are great for many reasons. For me I want to color natural hair, but don't want to ruin it again, so a real hair wig can scratch the itch of dying cuz I could dye that.

    • @AtheneHolder
      @AtheneHolder 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

I notice a major difference in my hair health after using those products, my hair is now healthy again. @AlleenLoveHope 3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      I agree that Black ppl wearing their hair natural shouldnt be seen as an act of rebellion or something to worry about when your friend/family member makes the switch. Unfortunately, there's still many cultures that look down on natural Black hair bc of long, complicated historical reasons (aka r@cism), so it is kind of a big deal for someone to do it, and I give them props for hopefully leading the way towards hair equality (especially in the workplace). Hair is hair and unless there's a hygiene issue causing actual sensory discomfort for others, ppl should mind their business. No hair type or style should be seen as "unprofessional".

    • @NotAnotherKuromi
      @NotAnotherKuromi 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AlleenLoveHope It's not just racism which contributes to the lack of natural hair styles, culture & sexism play a huge role too. Of course more people in the West don't need to worry about wearing protective styles or keeping it out of the way for physical reasons but the superficial pressure to fit in is huge, especially in the black community. We also tend to be slow to change, like how homophobic a lot of our community still is, that's not caused by racism (although there are contributing factors) we need to help create the positive change ourselves, like this woman, literally be the change & help inspire others.

    As a pasty Caucasian with naturally curly hair, I envy her to the Nth degree! I've had my curls hanging halfway down my butt, and as much as I loved it, I also hated it. Conditioning was a daily must, or I couldn't get my brush through it without a lot of pain/damage. Out of the shower, give hair a quick squeeze, then brush it immediately and put it up in whatever style it's going to be in for the day. Wait too long, and my hair would take the brush away from me and beat me with it lol! Sadly, a 13 day hospitalization in 2018 left me with all of my hair in one giant snarl at the back of my head. I had no choice but to chop off ALL of my hair when I got out. It's going to take years and years to get back what I had - so again, I envy Simone's long and beautiful hair. I'm glad that she is just embracing the natural beauty of it. No one should have to "conform" anything about themselves.

    gosh why do black women hide this beauty with flat boring hair ? This is their strenght, their glowing dark healthy looking skin vs pale more unhealthy looking thin skin etc not saying whiter skin people are ugly but if we all played up our differences it would be beautiful! I live in Sweden where being darker is a sign of health and wealth because it means you can travel.

    • @ToriUptown
      @ToriUptown 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Black women aren’t hiding their hair, they’re choosing to wear their hair how they want to. and what’s “dark” in Sweden is NOT BLACK. please do not act like being Black in Sweden (or anywhere where white people rule) is a privilege. it’s not.

    • @thegalhorowitz
      @thegalhorowitz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ToriUptown Hey Tori! You are sadly not correct there, maybe you feel like you aren't hiding your hair and thats so happy for you but lot of black women and lot of minorities around earth are pushed to white way of beauty standards, so they feel shame of their natural self. Whitening creams are one of the best selling products, still, today, in both asia and africa, people injure themselves with it. The comment about being black in Sweden...propably you are right...I havent been black before so cant say( although Im darker compared to them as a southern european-asian) its what I hear from talking to Swedes and their preferences. There is still racism everywhere in the world. Btw , my own personal view Im amazed by black people's unique beauty and wanted to compliment and not offend =) Take care!

      It's not that simple. Often afro hair is time-consuming and difficult to care for. Depending on the industry you work in, and if you live in a majority white country, black women have been told that their natural hair is "unprofessional". Black women's natural hair is beautiful, but please don't judge those that wear wigs, weaves or straighten their hair. Sincerely a woman with an afro (who also wears wigs sometimes).
