This is fair, especially if you're not into Sonic that much or haven't played much of the games either. It's an honest review and opinion. I respect it and love these reviews.

But if you look at the other comments on the video you will see that there are people saying Sonic 3 is better than Mufasa, it's not just me commenting like that. To be honest it makes sense that Brian isn't as into the Sonic movies as we Sonic fans are because he's the Disney guy (Mostly). So I don't blame you for your opinions Brian, you are pretty much alone in the idea that a lot of the hype moments in Sonic 3 are mostly for SONIC fans. Regular fans will only get hype from the context of the story and even then, this story isn't for everyone. And that's okay! Still glad you even talked about it, because this is a movie that we fans believe and feel EVERYONE must see at least once.

I’m definitely not gonna say he’s alone on feeling the way that he does because even as a huge sonic fan, I do understand some of his point. Some emotional beats didn’t hit as hard as they should’ve but again I’m also somebody who wants to be in the film industry so I there’s also that part of my brain just talking while watching movies lol overall if not a poorly made film far from it, but don’t be surprised if it doesn’t win over everybody lol
I respectfully suggest that you watch both CinemaWins' videos about these movies. He did the first movie a few years ago, while he did the second movie only last Saturday. He has some great perspective about them. And, as a non-Sonic fan myself, I loved these movies. I daresay Sonic 2 is among the best of movie sequels. I've yet to see the third Sonic film, but I definitely will eventually. Jim Carrey even came out of retirement to be in it, and I for one am glad he did.
I love the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise when I was a kid and I'm in my 20's right now. I have seen the first and second movie of Sonic the Hedgehog and I have seen the third movie of Sonic too ! I'm just speechless and shocked about that movie and I was also shaking nervously a bit while watching the movie. Also, no one at my movie theater where cheering at those Sonic movies and I was the only one clapping my hands in excitement !
As a life long Sonic fan, the reason people love Sonic 3 so much and were cheering was due to how much of a love letter to fans of Sonic Adventure 2 and bits and pieces of Shadow the Hedgehog 05. You only will get many of the references if you played the entirety of Sonic Adventure 2 as many of the big references are from the last story of that game after you complete both the Hero and Dark stories. I loved the movie, everything was done beautifully as a fan of games and who knows the lore. Jeff Fowler respected the fandom in every way with this movie. More so than even the first two films. Ask any Sonic fan, we see and love these films because of how respectful Paramount and Jeff Fowler have been to the source material. What started off as something ugly and off putting with Ugly Sonic turned into one of the most respectful movie franchises to the source material in recent years.

As someone who became a Sonic fan in 2020, I am so late to the game, like I am not an OG fan who grew up with the games or the characters, but someone who became an obsessed fan in 2020 and did all the research about the games, Tv-shows, anime, and music. So personaly I love Sonic to the bone and love the fanart and fanfictions that have made me into a Super Sonic fan. Yet not a fan of the exe stuff, I stay away from that type of horror. Lol. But what I wanted to communicate was this, Brian it's totally fine if you didn't get into Sonic or maybe not a Sonic nerd/fan. What the OG fans and I were cheering were all the easter egg references that Sonic 3 gave to the OG game Sonic adventure 2, that came out in 2001. The music, captions, lines, characters, outfits, literally everything that you could find, people were cheering and celebrating. What people also enjoyed that this movie wasn't a complete copy of the game itself either because the Sonic the hedgehog movies universe is it's own alternate universe, not like the games and other animated TV-shows. For example it's not like the live action lion king that has all 97% of the original lion king movie scenes and songs in it. Sonic 3 has so much of the Sonic adventure 2 games Easter eggs in it but it's not everything. It may have like 30%-50% of the main story, characters and music yet it's still unique in its own story and characters. It's beautifully done and made, that the fans are just overjoyed and become teary eyed for their favorite characters. You said nicely it's like watching a marvel movie when people cheered, but in my opinion it's much more deeper than cheering for a new character on the screen. It's who that character is, the poses they give referencing the game, the music they put in also from the game, the story with Shadow and Maria was different yet so beautifully portrayed the same. It was nostalgia at a new level. I don't know if you or anyone will read everything I wrote here. But I tried my best to explain my love for these movies and characters. I'm glad Knuckles, Jim Carey made you laugh. Lol. I do hope to one day talk to you about Sonic maybe at a tea/coffee shop. I'm glad you enjoyed the movie, because that's what a movie should do even if you are not a fan or have any knowledge of the characters. Love this video, don't ever change you. ❤️🇭🇺

I respect your opinion Brian, but i saw your Musafa review and dont agree with you on either movie. Musafa retconned the original lion king, had a poor story, and was overall not very entertaining. It was almost like Disney was thinking just making CGI lions again was enough to make them print money. Sonic 3 had heart, humor, kept you on the edge of your seat at times, and was great for all ages with a great moral. The writers obviously cared about the characters and wanted to please the fans.
I did wish that shadows backstory was a little more deep like rockets story in guardians volume 3 But I do get that it’s a movie that a lot of kids will watch And they didn’t want it to show anything to traumatizing for them But I absolutely loved the movie
You're not off on this. You're not a huge Sonic fan and that's okay. A lot of those audience freakout moments hinge on you being familiar with the source material. My wife feels the same way you do about Shadow and his backstory. She loves the first two films but was confused with the third film because of Shadow's backstory. I was the one freaking out (quietly) in the theatre 😅. Mufasa was an amazing film for Lion King fans (it's now my second favorite LK movie). This is an amazing film for Sonic fans. But I feel more people are familiar with Lion King so it's more accessible. Love hearing your thoughts on movies Brian. God bless.
I agree. I'm a sonic fan and knew the story but my husband, who hadn't played the game, didn't get everything. After the movie, my husband said he couldn't figure out how the girl (Maria) was related to Gerald. I felt like they didn't get that across. I feel like Gerald Robotnik needed an emotional scene/ happy memory with Maria. The only thing they said to relate him to Maria was a guard saying, "Hey this is the scientist's granddaughter." So if you missed that, it would be harder to figure out. But I did love the movie. Gerald was a little too silly, I feel like if he had flashbacks of him and Maria, the emotion would hold more weight.
My thing is I never really got into the Sonic games either and yet, I love all three of these movies. They get better as they keep going and I'm ready for more movies to come!
How can anyone not love Sonic the Hedgehog 3? I mean, it's got both Jim Carrey and Keanu Reeves absolutely owning their roles-seriously, they stole the show for me. You don't even have to be a Sonic fan (or even like Sonic!) to have a blast with this movie. If you’re into Jim Carrey's over-the-top genius or Keanu's cool factor, this is totally up your alley. Look, I don't know all the Sonic lore, and I haven’t played every Sonic game, but I LOVED this movie-like, more than Mufasa (and I really liked Mufasa). It's even better than the first two Sonic movies. The cast was amazing, the humor was on point, and the whole thing was just fun. And let's be real-there's nothing better than an audience clapping, cheering, and just having the time of their lives. That's the magic of a great movie experience to me, especially when it's a great DC and Marvel movie, or even when it's the latest Mission: Impossible, Top Gun, John Wick, Planet of the Apes, Ghostbusters, Transformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Star Wars, or Star Trek So yeah, with all due respect, I can't agree with your review of Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Honestly, it bummed me out. The story behind Shadow was so deep and compelling-it's easily the best video game adaptation ever. Way better than stuff like the latest live-action Resident Evil movie or that bizarre '90s Super Mario Bros. movie. Still, I enjoy your impersonations and some of your other videos! Just gotta say… this one? We're on totally different wavelengths.
The group I went with was yelling and screaming at the Sonic Movie. They are some of the biggest sonic fans that I know, so that is to be expected. Me? I was more into Moana 2 and Mufasa, which I had seen both the day before watching this.
I enjoyed Sonic 3! It was very entertaining and cool. I respect your opinion on the film. Everyone has their preferences and that’s fine. And I also respect that you were professional about it and not the judgy, toxic type about what film you like better/less.
Also another thing to point out.. The real season people hate "Disney" is they don't respect the Lore they own from other company's or the Corporations they buy and then Destroy like "Blue Sky" or even the stuff they created and this is why Disney will continue to Fail.
You're definitely not alone. As a huge fan of Sonic Adventure 2, I don't believe they translated certain story bits as well as they could have. Not to mention how they skimmed over several key story elements, or straight up removed them - further abstracting the themes and origins of Shadow. Overall a bare minimum adaption of what the game offers narrative wise.

I saw sonic 3 today and i thought it was fantastic!! 😀My fav character in Sonic and has always was and is Shadow! I think Sonic 3 was a better movie than Mufasa, but I am not a big Sonic fan. I had much more fun watching Mufasa since Lion King has always been my favorite.
I'm not a major Sonic fan, but even i have respect for the source material. I can assume Sonic is a favourite to children in his shows and movies, whereas Shadow sticks in with older audiences and the hardcore fans, because moviegoers could connect to his descent to darkness. I love the Lion King movies, but the live action remakes are just unnecessarily shallow for me, even the voice acting, and making the characters photorealistic. I can see why you like these films.
I honestly disagree with your review. I am the biggest Sonic fan. Sonic 3 is amazing and so fun to watch. I watched it for a second time! Many of us were cheering with live and learn scene! You really need to play the Sonic Adventure 2 video game to really understand the Sonic 3 movie well. There are a lot of passionate Sonic fans like me to enjoy this movie. I love Lion King too but not a fan of realism and a waste of time; in my opinion. After all, I respect your opinion.
So I think a lot of it has to do with the fans and the source material, in the 90s if you were a Sega kid Sonic was huge but in 2001 Sonic Adventure 2 was the sendoff to Sega being a console maker and kinda the beginning of Sonic being in his angsty teens, it was super melodramatic with end of world monster to defeat and then game media was very critical of it so Sega changed it to more goofy cartoony humor and fans didn't like it. This movie embraces all the things fans liked that critics said was cringe and to see that on the big screen is to see your childhood validated But your right these movies are just okay when you detach that childhood nostalgia As for getting into Sonic I have 2 recommendations Sonic SatAm a 90s cartoon has lots of characters with unique voices you could have fun with And for laughs and just growing to like the characters Sonic Boom is a sitcom like friends with the Sonic cast, no pressure just fun hijinx of the week with a lot of real world satire for adults, probably skip the first few episodes though, their real kiddie to lock the kids into the show

When you don't grow up with Sonic or just in general like if it doesn't click then it just doesn't click and that's fair. I'm a Sonic diehard so of course this movie feels like peak and marvel movies type to me and others but that's what Sonic 3 is. It's a movie for Sonic fans and hopefully it's able to grab in new fans but if it didn't do it for ya I understand why.

😬 I hate to tell you this but Sonic 3 got 88%🍅fresh with critics and 96%🍿with audiences, meanwhile Mufasa only got 55% with critics and 88% with audiences. Honestly it's all based on your fanbase. I am a big Disney person but I am a bit of a fan of Sonic. I grew up with Sonic in my childhood. Now as an adult, I still hold a special place for it in my heart. I also was a shadow fan as well so I can get the hype of those in the theater acting like its a Marvel movie. But I am the same way you are where I wont go crazy but it will bring me that nostalgia of my childhood. Imma see the movie soon so I am excited to see it. But your opinions are still quite valid.
I’ve watched it several times now. And going of with what you said. And in my experience the kids enjoyed it very much. And last I checked it’s mainly targeted towards children. So in that regard it’s a success.

Without Jim Carrey, I don't think these movies would have the broad appeal that they do. If he wasn't in them, I doubt I would even think about seeing this new one after how god awful the second one was. Which is a shame because the first was a charming little movie!

The movies suck. SONIC is not suppose to talk. You just had to be back in the 90s playing the sega videogames to understand that the SONIC on these films are not the 90s videogame SONIC. The music, the astetics, the feeling of the gameplay, the memories are just not there in these films because its a movie. If you want to like the "SONIC" character then i would recomend playing the sega first and second game. Its not going to be the same feeling now playing these two first games because its now 2024 but at least you can see what i mean if you truley understand. This SONIC appeals to the new generation because thats what makes money in Hollywood. 🤷🏻♂️

I really enjoyed the movie with my daughters. We saw Moufasa and what an absolute disappointment. Sonic was way better as an overall experience.

I agree. I'm a sonic fan and knew the story but my husband, who hadn't played the game, didn't get everything. After the movie, my husband said he couldn't figure out how the girl (Maria) was related to Gerald. I felt like they didn't get that across. I feel like Gerald Robotnik needed an emotional scene/ happy memory with Maria. The only thing they said to relate him to Maria was a guard saying, "Hey this is the scientist's granddaughter." So if you missed that, it would be harder to figure out. But I did love the movie. Gerald was a little too silly, I feel like if he had flashbacks of him and Maria, the emotion would hold more weight.
My thing is I never really got into the Sonic games either and yet, I love all three of these movies. They get better as they keep going and I'm ready for more movies to come!
How can anyone not love Sonic the Hedgehog 3? I mean, it's got both Jim Carrey and Keanu Reeves absolutely owning their roles-seriously, they stole the show for me. You don't even have to be a Sonic fan (or even like Sonic!) to have a blast with this movie. If you’re into Jim Carrey's over-the-top genius or Keanu's cool factor, this is totally up your alley.
Look, I don't know all the Sonic lore, and I haven’t played every Sonic game, but I LOVED this movie-like, more than Mufasa (and I really liked Mufasa). It's even better than the first two Sonic movies. The cast was amazing, the humor was on point, and the whole thing was just fun. And let's be real-there's nothing better than an audience clapping, cheering, and just having the time of their lives. That's the magic of a great movie experience to me, especially when it's a great DC and Marvel movie, or even when it's the latest Mission: Impossible, Top Gun, John Wick, Planet of the Apes, Ghostbusters, Transformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Star Wars, or Star Trek
So yeah, with all due respect, I can't agree with your review of Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Honestly, it bummed me out. The story behind Shadow was so deep and compelling-it's easily the best video game adaptation ever. Way better than stuff like the latest live-action Resident Evil movie or that bizarre '90s Super Mario Bros. movie.
Still, I enjoy your impersonations and some of your other videos! Just gotta say… this one? We're on totally different wavelengths.

The group I went with was yelling and screaming at the Sonic Movie. They are some of the biggest sonic fans that I know, so that is to be expected. Me? I was more into Moana 2 and Mufasa, which I had seen both the day before watching this.

You're definitely not alone. As a huge fan of Sonic Adventure 2, I don't believe they translated certain story bits as well as they could have. Not to mention how they skimmed over several key story elements, or straight up removed them - further abstracting the themes and origins of Shadow. Overall a bare minimum adaption of what the game offers narrative wise.
@Brian Hull: Back in the saggy Flesh! Line from Dr. Eggman himself! now today at 2pm I got to the Theater and I got there on time. I saw sonic 3 today and i thought it was fantastic!! 😀My fav character in Sonic and has always was and is Shadow!

I think Sonic 3 was a better movie than Mufasa, but I am not a big Sonic fan. I had much more fun watching Mufasa since Lion King has always been my favorite.
I'm not a major Sonic fan, but even i have respect for the source material. I can assume Sonic is a favourite to children in his shows and movies, whereas Shadow sticks in with older audiences and the hardcore fans, because moviegoers could connect to his descent to darkness.
I love the Lion King movies, but the live action remakes are just unnecessarily shallow for me, even the voice acting, and making the characters photorealistic. I can see why you like these films.
I honestly disagree with your review. I am the biggest Sonic fan. Sonic 3 is amazing and so fun to watch. I watched it for a second time! Many of us were cheering with live and learn scene! You really need to play the Sonic Adventure 2 video game to really understand the Sonic 3 movie well. There are a lot of passionate Sonic fans like me to enjoy this movie. I love Lion King too but not a fan of realism and a waste of time; in my opinion. After all, I respect your opinion.

I think all of the references in the movie are what holds it up the most. It’s defo just solely fan service 🎉
So I think a lot of it has to do with the fans and the source material, in the 90s if you were a Sega kid Sonic was huge but in 2001 Sonic Adventure 2 was the sendoff to Sega being a console maker and kinda the beginning of Sonic being in his angsty teens, it was super melodramatic with end of world monster to defeat and then game media was very critical of it so Sega changed it to more goofy cartoony humor and fans didn't like it. This movie embraces all the things fans liked that critics said was cringe and to see that on the big screen is to see your childhood validated
But your right these movies are just okay when you detach that childhood nostalgia
As for getting into Sonic I have 2 recommendations Sonic SatAm a 90s cartoon has lots of characters with unique voices you could have fun with
And for laughs and just growing to like the characters Sonic Boom is a sitcom like friends with the Sonic cast, no pressure just fun hijinx of the week with a lot of real world satire for adults, probably skip the first few episodes though, their real kiddie to lock the kids into the show
I go to the theaters while kids are at school and adults are at work so there are only a few people in the theater!
If your not a sonic fan then ofc your opinion on it wont be as good as one from a fan. These movies (Sonic,Mario and Fnaf) are all movies for the fans.

When you don't grow up with Sonic or just in general like if it doesn't click then it just doesn't click and that's fair. I'm a Sonic diehard so of course this movie feels like peak and marvel movies type to me and others but that's what Sonic 3 is. It's a movie for Sonic fans and hopefully it's able to grab in new fans but if it didn't do it for ya I understand why.
Good Review Brian I used to like Sonic too especially the cartoon show back in the day but I never got into the movies either so I completely understand your perspective on Sonic 3 & I’m more interested to see Mufasa because to me I think it will beat Sonic 3 I’m might be alone in that opinion but I just want Mufasa to do well at the box office and be a great tribute to James Earl Jones 🦁

Honestly it's all based on your fanbase. I am a big Disney person but I am a bit of a fan of Sonic. I grew up with Sonic in my childhood. Now as an adult, I still hold a special place for it in my heart. I also was a shadow fan as well so I can get the hype of those in the theater acting like its a Marvel movie. But I am the same way you are where I wont go crazy but it will bring me that nostalgia of my childhood. Imma see the movie soon so I am excited to see it. But your opinions are still quite valid.

Without Jim Carrey, I don't think these movies would have the broad appeal that they do. If he wasn't in them, I doubt I would even think about seeing this new one after how god awful the second one was. Which is a shame because the first was a charming little movie!

Let me just say I only cared about Robotnik and Shadow. All other human characters' acting was horrendous.
The movies suck. SONIC is not suppose to talk. You just had to be back in the 90s playing the sega videogames to understand that the SONIC on these films are not the 90s videogame SONIC. The music, the astetics, the feeling of the gameplay, the memories are just not there in these films because its a movie. If you want to like the "SONIC" character then i would recomend playing the sega first and second game. Its not going to be the same feeling now playing these two first games because its now 2024 but at least you can see what i mean if you truley understand.
