For the Twins, instead, I went with painting one of them as if they were a ghost with a sort of ethereal blue colour and the other a normal bandit captain. Felt it made it really cool to make it one charcter but split in body and soul (That's why they fight better the closer they are to one another) Then I used the Manticore boss as motivation for the Bandit Captain who is trying to restore themselves into one being. Was very fun playing it like that
Having taken advantage of the Gen Con mail order offer, my order arrived yesterday. This bandit set, the manticore, the 2 headed dino and the lizard folk set. All fantastic models that I can't wait to inflict upon my players.
The elemental is the best mini and tho the bandit leaders being twins adds to the story I wouldn’t be surprised if they came up with it just to save money with fewer molds but I wouldn’t think less if that was the reason still a good set
I LOVE the new map art style. I have the swamp goblins set and i find it really difficult to make out the specifics on the map. The goat mounted bandits and earth elementals are such fun minis!
Your reviews for these Epic Encounters almost always sells me on the set. While this set isn't a "buy now" it for sure will be added to my collection soon. As for the map, I was really excited when I saw the bright colorful map when you opened the box...I'm currently using the undead/lich empress boxes, and the maps are so dark, they're unusable. Then you put the minis down on the map, and the scale is noticeably way off. That elemental looked larger than the building it was next to. The trees were smaller than the 5' squares.. (so are they just bushes?) Usually maps go the other way, and make things too large (that chair is taking up an entire 5' square? that's quite the chair!) so this, making things smaller really stands out. Not a lot of things take me out of immersion, but for some reason that did...So, as nice as it looks, I'll probably continue to find appropriate Paizo flip mats, and the Arc Knight maps I picked up a few years ago.
I love this set, especially the goat riders! You've sold me on it, although I do wish that the bosses were a little bit in in theme with the rest. Stylistically, I feel they're more Mongolian inspired that Japanese, especially with the furs and top knots.
Looking forward to those being released for purchase, thanks for the great review, definitely would be a great fit for pretty much anything. I got a terrific amount of mileage out of their undead set and the ghoul one (the fleshier ones worked really well for substitutes of the lower CR demons), I expect to get a lot of mileage out of these guys as local militia, etc.
Id like to see a review of bigsby presents: glory of giants. The dragon expansion book was one of my favorites from wizards recently, and id love to know if this one is of the same calliber!
Instead of gorilla mounts in a future set they should go with hamster or guines pig mounts. Hamster mounts can be more agile and aggressive that are capable of climbing and staying on the roofs like bats to ambush the players. Guinea pig mounts are larger, and capable of tanking attacks and dishing out a devastating charge attack.
Been waiting for this review. Good to see some love for Gnolls. Really want sets around Slaads, a Beholder boss or plant based creatures maybe circle of spore zombies maybe a pumpkin theme and I'd love to see some Sci Fi love maybe Cyborgs or EE take on Aliens
GNOLLS! I love gnolls, gnolls are great, do you love gnolls? You should love gnolls, gnolls are the best, did I say I love gnolls, because trust me: I do love gnolls.
The Kobold Press books, Tales of the Wastes & Wastes of Chaos would be great to be talked about. I missed the Kickstarter and I'm curious to see what you think of them. This set is really awesome. I can't wait to pick it up soon. Fantastic haul from Gen Con.
I was excited for this box,but I'm going to be honest & give it a pass, which is sad because I do like their boxes.Whilst I can understand they wanted to go for something different in regards to the elementals being the brutes in this set,I would have liked hulking barbarian type minis with massive clubs or axes, & overall more "Cutt throat" or aggressive looking bandits. I do like the mounts on the goats thats a pretty cool idea though.
Amazing overview of this set as usual. Can't stand miniatures that look like homeless people, and Song of Ice and Fire has much better looking bandit type miniatures, so this whole box is a hard pass. I am dying for your Bigby's Glory of the Giants Wizkids review. I feel like that set snuck up on us and it's one of Wizkids' best so far.

Nice set especially if you are a mini painter which sadly I am not. Great Review as always. Your videos are really improved !

Yeah, I guess it's just a diverse set of bandits! -Theo
great review. These minis would work well with Frostgrave. I will definitely pick this one up.

Fantastic haul from Gen Con.
Thanks!! Those books are a lot of fun! I was having a blast reading them. Will try to do some coverage of them! -Theo
Cool set
I wonder how much more it would cost if they came prepainted? I just don’t have time or energy to do the painting anymore
I hear ya. I don’t believe they’ve ever released any prepainted minis, so it would definitely be a big change for them.

Looks cool!
Thanks for the vid!
Thank you!!
Source of the prepainted minis? I can't seem to find them
Do the riders come off the goats?
No they don't. The Steamforged minis aren't modular. -Theo
Curse of the Usurper next!
It's coming soon! -Theo
