This is probably the most honest and realistic video I've seen of what a day looks like on a $700/month budget if you live in Bangkok. I've stayed in the outskirts too and I think it's worth paying a little more to be closer to the center of the city if you're planning to visit it 3-4 times per week.
Having said that, there are some areas that are far from the center that are not that bad (ie Bang Kapi) but also some where there isn't much to do (ie Wong Sawang).
My question to you is, is it still worth living in BKK on that budget? Wouldn't it be better if you went to a smaller Thai city and get a place for like $300/month and with less time commuting?
I appreciate this comment so much! As a traveler with 10+ years experience, I really try to show people the reality of travel and sometimes it’s just this. No excitement. Just getting stuff done, saving a few bucks and trying to stay sane. I think you’re right that a little investment could have gotten me closer to town. But I ventured in every week! Every month is different for me. I’m now in Chiang Mai, paying more on my accommodation, but also much closer to everything (but still far enough to feel peaceful) and its been incredible so far! My budget of 450-550 gets me very different things depending on city and country. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose! Hahaha. Thanks so much! :-)
@@GringoNation I went to CM for a few days. I stayed in the Old City and I just didn't find the place to my liking, compared to BKK.
What is it that you like there more? What's the area you live in? Are you going to make a video about it?
Safe travels!
@@panosjapan7 i’m further out of old city. Very local and peaceful. Love the silence and nature sounds. There are definitely videos coming about it! Cheers Panos!
Cool video 👍 That apartment is pretty sick for a $700 a month lifestyle. Those far flung outskirts of Bangkok can be super cheap.
Hey I really appreciate you watching and taking the time to leave a comment! The apartment suited me pretty well. But as a foreigner looking to get social, I could’ve tried paying 50 to 100 more for something more central. Either way, good to see they have great deals like this. The pool factor has been so important for me in recent months. Really takes the edge off sometimes. Cheers!
I live for this!
@@gongagong the pool action?
@@GringoNation No, one of the OPs classic moments.
Look at condos in bearing or onnut
Great video, Art!! I’m enjoying seeing these videos in Thailand, it brings me back! 💛
Really appreciate it, Yuki! And I'm glad it's bringing back good memories. I missed Thailand so much I had to come back and make new memories. :-)
Sweet digs my friend👍🏻👍🏻
Cheers G! Swimming pool is a definite game changer

waterfight? you mean the Buddhistic new year celebrated by "only" 500 miljon buddist all over the world?=)
@@gmm5550 now there’s a great title for a video!
Thumbs up 👍 Art
Thanks so much! What a pleasure to have mango sticky rice watching 🤣
This reminds me a lot of when I stayed in Bangkok. Pretty similar apartment gym, and pool but also away from the center. I really enjoyed my stay and like you said no matter where you are in Bangkok you have everything near you. The night market near my place was always popping. I also remember even though I used Airbnb there were signs all over the condo that Airbnb was illegal is that still the case or have things changed?
Ollie! Night markets are the shiz... There actually was a sign saying you couldn't Airbnb for just 24h or something like that, but that's it... Everyone seemed pretty friendly. When did you go?
@@GringoNation I was there in 2018 I imagine things have changed since then. We didn't have any problems and you could also tell there were other airbnb guest staying in the condo. I just remember it was a little disconcerting when we first arrived and the posters were plastered all over the elevator.
olá. Muito legal. você conhece algum site que eu posso ensinar inglês. acabei de começar a fazer um curso tefl
Oi, vc eh brasileiro?

@@WandererNirvana haha blz! I'm teaching at Engoo. Pay sucks but it's easy enough.
Moot Lao means out already. I suggest to learn the basics in Thai.
1. Find the bathroom
2.count money
3. Order Food
4. Hello/Goodbye & Thank You
Lastly
5. Get your ass home
Most English native speaking ppl cant learn other languages.
They dont have the mindset or culture for learning as most other ppl have..
Im Scandinavian and speak and write 3 languages fluent from school age understand more and speak pretty good Thai and some Vietnamese. Learning language's is power and respect and helps u adapt =)
Of course learning these basic things and anything else is extremely helpful. I know a few things but should learn more. It’s harder to stay motivated when you spend only 3 months in a country. And Thai people can speak pretty decent English so I get by just fine. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.
While I mostly agree, I’m Brazilian and speak native English and Portuguese. And intermediate Spanish.
@@GringoNation are u born and raised in brazil? after +15 years working and living in se-asia with bangkok as a base and travel all over se-asia with work i can say that americans uk australians and other native english expats struggle the MOST with language..even in phillipines where there are a high level of fillipino english i do se americans struggle
@@gmm5550 i was born in Brazil, childhood in USA and early adulthood in Brazil. Ive been traveling since 2014, when I was 29
Why not stay somewhere for at least a few months so you can save money on rent? 450 per month is a lot for Thailand, even BKK
Hey Jeff! Thanks for watching! The short answer to this question is: I'm running a travel channel here! haha... I'm sure if I decided to settle down somewhere and got a long term agreement, I could save money on rent, but it's just not the intention right now. That said, in the Airbnb world, 450 is pretty decent. I've rarely paid much less than that in any other country. Maybe a couple of exceptions only?
@@GringoNation understood, enjoy!
You can get a condo for 8000 per month in bearing past onnut a year or 6 month contract that is expensive it really is
Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. I’m sure there are cheaper options for long term but I’m never long term! Different apartment every month.
Aren’t you officially illegal on the visa you’re on?
I have 3 months in Thailand through my passport
Where can I get a job teaching English online like you?

Cool Minimalist Lifestyle! But you could be doing better, on a $ per hour basis, playing online poker, or doing Cobol patches, or just about anything else really. Teaching English is like joining the military: It is the default option for guys who cannot think of anything else to do...
Great tourist selfies and some added soft music, thanks!

@@GringoNation he's too consumed w/ his hatred for Thailand this goon. He posts this on every Thailand vlog. He was MIA for a while but apparantly he's back 😂
good to know! Cheers!
1 learn atleast some basic thai
2 live in normal Bangkok and not central
3 mix eat out with cook thaifood home
4 dont even TRY live like a "westerner"
5 dont spend money on ladys or alcohol
then u can easily live on a low amount like a lover middleclass working single thai do. Personally i would aim for 1200$-1500$ for a comfortable and cheap lifestyle WITH a basic insurance
Good tips! You can live extremely well on 1200. I drink alcohol and it’s still very doable. Beers are 50 baht at 7 eleven. Thanks for checking it out!
@@GringoNation with alcohol i mean stay away from the "bar scene" where so many expats get stuck.. drinking a icecold beer on the balcony a warm night is almost poetic good =)
@@gmm5550 mandatory! 🤣
I wouldn’t look to Creep Charlie for support or advice. He’s going nowhere in life
Ridiculous. Sure one can live on 700 if one pays no health insurance, pays no car insurance back in the home country, pays no car registration back home, has no useful travel insurance.. etc.. and the list goes on. No entertainment, no significant other to pay for, etc..
What if I told you I don't have any of those expenses except travel health insurance (about 25 a month). Not everyone finds themselves in the same circumstances. 700 gives you accommodation and food. You can survive on it much more respectably than in the USA, for example. I can have lots of fun with an extra 300 if I want to, any given month. Simply presenting alternative lifestyles. Thanks for watching!
Most of the things you listed are a scam anyway
If it's such a long list why would you start with such irrelevant things. Like, no I don't have Car Insurance or "Car registration" in a country I don't live in either and I'm doing fine!
Living off $700 per month in Thailand would be a miserable existence
Correction. Living off $700 in Thailand in a city like Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mia, Samui might be a terrible existence. But you can live very well of that amount if you are in some other place and don't expect to eat western foods all the time and drink like a fish. The problem usually, is that people want to have a standard of living that is like that of the west. But, I live in Issan with my wife and daughter (granted we live in our own home) and we live very comfortably for about $750 a month. So, yes, if you expect the luxuries of the west and want to live in a fancy Condo etc, then $700 would be a m miserable existence, but for many others, especially those 'upcountry" it is very very doable. Again, people that require a lot more, are living a very un Thai lifestyle ...I am pretty low maintenance, I don't expect to be 'wined and dined' eating imported expensive foods all the time, so, as I said, $700 would be very doable for me.
Couldn't of said it better myself! I'm now in Chiang Mai and it's still far from a terrible existence. Thanks Ned Man!
Not at all. Clearly you don’t know how to navigate Bangkok or Thailand saying nonsense like that.
@@MMz_5150 seems like some people would rather pay 2K for the same exact thing in other countries, except less safe.
@@GringoNation well, its just the truth!
