I popped over to rockauto and Cardone calipers are about $60 a pop, Raybestos rotors are about $17 each, Centric front pads are $20 for both fronts and about $18 for both rears. Hell - Even napa's parts were only slightly more expensive.
I had to replace that hose on my 93 Escort GT 1.6. Ford wanted $10 for that hose and Mazda wanted $3. Guess which I got. Both part numbers were searched by the same dealer. Crazy

Chose one of these over a miata back in ‘93, needed the extra practicality of a back seat and boot for. Had it for 8 years, loved it, but when it came time to get back into a small convertible 10 years later I bought a ‘90 miata because it was going to be easier to source spare parts as it got older. A shame, the Capri was a sweet handling little front driver, and had less scuttle shake than either of my miatas.
That was the same problem my friend ran into with his Capri, it was hard to track down parts for it. Which reminds me, check your wheel bearings and make sure they're plenty lubricated.
90's cars are my favorite! There is just something special about a tiny turbo 5speed car with no TC, No ABS, and no top! Things like this could not exist today.
I bought one new in '91 when I was 24. Base 5 spd. in white on grey with hard top. Great car for the time and price. Everyone I have seen in the past decade is just destroyed. Great you found a survivor.
i’m 16 and my first car is currently a 1993 mercury capri….not xr2 just original. but oh my god is it fun to drive. i’ve taught myself standard driving it and i love it. it is very beat up but in driving condition. if you see this i’d like to talk to you about repairs and helping me work on it.

You will likely need to bale 2 inches of water from inside. Carry a jacket or something dry to lay on the seat because the driver's seat will hold several ounces of water. They were called Crapis for a reason. Luckily most of the troubles were on the 1991s.
A good trick for hiding the holes after you remove the front licence plate frame is to use apoulstry button covers with screws. You can paint the plastic covers the body color of the car.
Picked up one of these this past fall with my trump bucks, makes me smile every time i drive it, its not a miata but it'll still be lots of cheap fun. a hidden gem that people can STILL get on the cheap because parts are difficult, but meh, you drive it until its done, its got no long term value, so have fun with it, i'm hoping to drive mine for another 50-60k, its got 95k now.

Neat video, JR. Cool little car. That bypass hose looks identical, diameter and all, to the one on my 78 and 79 Thunderbirds as well as my 87, 88, and 89 Crown Victorias and Grand Marquis. Between them they had carbureted 302 and fuel injected 302 W, 351M, and 351W under the hoods.
My buddy's family had one of the original Capris from the 70s with a tiny v6 in it. I also remember the 80s one based on the Mustang and remember another friend's buddy doing a huge burnout on the street in front of his house, pretty sure it was a brand new one with the 5.0. I don't think I remember this version but the turbo and convertible makes it interesting and rare. So many versions of that name were sold here back in the day.
I still have manuals for them. The Fox Chassis was heavier, but had better power options, especially the V8. Those were only produced from '79 to '86, though supposedly some were made for '87 before they cancelled the program. I tried to get behind this one when it came out, but the FWD and lack of real power just kind of did it in for me. Besides, I still was in love with my '86 bubbleback Capri with the 5.0L!

Last month (June 2021) I bought a white 1992 XR2 Turbo, 34,283 original miles, paid $4,950 and she runs like a champ. It’s exact as in the video except for aftermarket rims. Love to find a white or black hardtop for it, just to make it complete. Original owner put apx 20K miles on it in the apx 22 years he owned it. I’m the fourth owner.
Well this is probably best time to get them they super cheap and even though this guy says parts are hard to find actually they are really easy. I got one for $2000
Rock Auto has all the brake parts for that car and the crossover hose for about $380. I know you like to support O'Reilly's, but.... Anyhoo, love the car!
I've used a company called ECS Automotive out of St. Louis for reproduction glass with correct markings for older Fords. They can even date code it to match your specific vehicle, if desired. I don't know if they have a windshield for a '92 Capri, or what it would cost if they do, but if maintaining originality is a priority, it couldn't hurt to check.

Ford Laser were very popular in Australia as a hatch , basically a 323 with facelift. This is basically a 323 chassis and drivetrain. Local consensus at the time was it shouldn't have been called a Capri

My cousin has one in Australia she decided not to fix it up, worth only $A1000 now, we had a problem with them in Australia of soft top leaks, like them OK, but preferred the original Ford Capri I had one a 3 litre V6.... went like a rocket!

Hi I live in Australia and picked up a Survivor Ford Capri XR2 Turbo. 9.1992. Basically the same thing with less than 69k kilometers on the Odometer ( with papers to prove it..) I has same problem with leaves for a While. My Biggest problem was 'RedBack spiders in Residence.' And they Were harder to Evict..! Spider bombed the Car Twice. And I was still having an Occasional visitor..! I have Replaced the Plastic Radiator for Aluminum with a Bigger Core..! It gets warmer here in Summer and using the Turbo. Sent the Temp high..! My dad had a 99 VW Passat wagon that he parked under trees often. The leaf debris got so bad under the cowl, it either caused the A/C weep tube to get clogged and start leaking into the floorboard, or it might have been the heater core. Either way, he got rid of it shortly thereafter. 1999 was not a good model year for VW. My brother had a lot of issues trying to straighten out his wife’s 99 Jetta.
I had a '91 n/a, most part were expensive & had to be special ordered from Australia, when you do the tune up replace the chip in the distributor, I learned than the hard way
Fall of '91 I began looking for a convertible to purchase. As much as I loved the Miata, I wanted "4" seats. The Capri and the LeBaron were the two in my price range. Had to go with the larger back seat, bought the LeBaron December of '91 and enjoyed it until I sold it in '95. The Capri looks really good, enjoy.

Me and my buddy have a 91 xr2 with a 5 speed, we are currently stripping it down and rebuilding the engine to make some more power, just got some 60mm offsets and probably gonna do a 1.6 miata turbo swap, with a whole bunch of other miata parts. And eventually maybe might swap a frankenstien k20 / k24, and upgrade the suspension and tires.the goal is to have a fun quick but slow street car that can eat backroads.

Such a sweet car. With my European eyes it has a whiff of Pontiac Fiero about it which is no bad thing. What a survivor though; if some leaves and a coolant leak are the worst offenders, it’s done well 👍
Good eye! You're right! That Fiero was rear mid engine, also similar to the Toyota MR2. Nothing wrong with the design, except the American market wasn't ready for it at that time. The *1986 Fiero GT* was one of my favorites American designs by then; it looked a little wider than the original one. I had a Mercury Caprí XR2 for couple of years, it was like a go kart, very nice! w/Mazda technology but far from the RX7's performance and the Miata. Remember the Fiat 1/9? (1979//1982) Rear mid engine, it was avant-garde and the japanese got seduced by the Italians designs rather than the quality )ö(. The MR2 was very similar and came on 1982. Salud!

you can do Redtek in your R-12 system. Many DMC owners say that it performs better than a 134 conversion due to the compressor cycles that occur with the 134 conversion .
Hi Mate, Great car,0 I love mine.. First thing I did with my Barn Find $1500. AUD. with 68.000km's on the Odometer. Was Brakes, (thats why it was in the Barn, Metal on Metal on 3 wheels..!? Pads and Slotted Rotors All round. Plus a new 'CatCon' and bigger Bore Exhaust. Aluminium Radiator too. It gets warm down here..!! 🥵 This made it Safe and Sound great too..! I dont know if there were Different part's on the Mercury to my Ford (here in Oz.) But Some Laser parts are common to the Capri. And the B6 or B6T mazda engine is/are all over the Place. Turbo parts may be an issue but, I located a Local Guy to me, who had spare parts falling out of his Ears. (Thx Ian your a Star..!!) I bought a Spare Engine Gearbox, wings, Front clip, Bonnet, doors ect ect. (Shed loads in fact..!) I also intend to join a Club for every model of Capri. They can be very helpful..! I’ve had great luck with EnviroSafe refrigerant. Works I. R12 and R134a systems- and at lower pressures. It’s super cheap too. I’ve used it in Merced’es, Ford, Chevy, r12 and R134a systems. It’s way better than an r134 conversion of an R12 system.
I would have to disagree with the Car Ninja about the hose clamps there JR. The worm gear clamps are good I agree, but they only clamp down with the force you apply to them whilst installing the new hose. After that they are static, so if the hose or the pipe it attaches to deteriorate it loosens its pressure and you get a creeping leak. A spring clamp of good quality in that scenario keeps on self adjusting as the hose or the pipe deteriorates and tightens it's grip continuously.
G'day, you can buy any brake parts you need from ebay.com.au. There is the cost of shipping from OZ but you do get to pay with Australian dollars, not real dollars. Discs and rotors cost $280AU, ($216US). I know that you cannot wait 4-6 weeks for delivery, but everything is available.
I have a few original oem front rotors if you need a couple. Also, be very careful with the shifter and Do Not press down on it very hard, if you do there is no fix.
I bought that car for 2,500 back in 2002. Great car. Very reliable.
looks like the Euroasian Auto, Inc. has a 1991 Capri front glass for $95. I would call old Urination BOB ASAP.

Australian Fords loved using the XR nameplate… we had the XR2 (Capri), XR4 (Fiesta), XR5 (Focus) XR6, XR6 Turbo and XR8 (Falcon).
The Mercury Cougar also had an XR-7 package. I didn't know about the others, though.

safelite auto glass was able to make one for my 1981 celica. its also a one off windshield.
My first car was an 81 Celica ST. I drove it until she just wore out. I wish I still had the car, it was fun to drive.

Being an Australian build (my country) it would use metric size bolts.
By the 90's most of the US carmakers were using metric too, though there's close crossover on a few sizes.
Me and my buddy have a 91 xr2 with a 5 speed, we are currently stripping it down and rebuilding the engine to make some more power, just got some 60mm offsets and probably gonna do a 1.6 miata turbo swap, with a whole bunch of other miata parts. And eventually maybe might swap a frankenstien k20 / k24, and upgrade the suspension and tires.the goal is to have a fun quick but slow street car that can eat backroads.
Nice find 👍 I wonder if the timing belt needs to be changed. That car is so nice I’d hate to see the head damaged. Back in the day timing belts would snap quite a lot.
Such a sweet car. With my European eyes it has a whiff of Pontiac Fiero about it which is no bad thing.
What a survivor though; if some leaves and a coolant leak are the worst offenders, it’s done well 👍
Good eye! You're right! That Fiero was rear mid engine, also similar to the Toyota MR2. Nothing wrong with the design, except the American market wasn't ready for it at that time. The *1986 Fiero GT* was one of my favorites American designs by then; it looked a little wider than the original one.
I had a Mercury Caprí XR2 for couple of years, it was like a go kart, very nice! w/Mazda technology but far from the RX7's performance and the Miata.
Remember the Fiat 1/9? (1979//1982) Rear mid engine, it was avant-garde and the japanese got seduced by the Italians designs rather than the quality )ö(. The MR2 was very similar and came on 1982. Salud!
I just confirmed the Triumph TR7 came on 1974, before the Fiat 1/9. Wow!

The rear really looks like an eagle talon. I love the talon, but the side looks like a cavalier
Some states require front tags. Colorado does for sure.
Cooling system pressure tester would be idea for finding that leak. You can pressurize the system without cranking the engine and getting it hot.
I used to have one of these they have a Mazda engine from a 323 parts should be everywhere, they are here in Australia anyway

I dunno how useful this is, or if you've already figured it out, but that Capri shares most of it's underpinnings with the same year Ford Escorts, but it seems like auto parts stores should know that.
you can do Redtek in your R-12 system. Many DMC owners say that it performs better than a 134 conversion due to the compressor cycles that occur with the 134 conversion .

Pads and Slotted Rotors All round. Plus a new 'CatCon' and bigger Bore Exhaust. Aluminium Radiator too. It gets warm down here..!! 🥵

I dont know if there were Different part's on the Mercury to my Ford (here in Oz.) But Some Laser parts are common to the Capri.
And the B6 or
B6T mazda engine is/are all over the Place.
Turbo parts may be an issue but, I located a Local Guy to me, who had spare parts falling out of his Ears.

I bought a Spare Engine Gearbox, wings, Front clip, Bonnet, doors ect ect. (Shed loads in fact..!)
I also intend to join a Club for every model of Capri. They can be very helpful..!

Looks like O'Reilly's has upper and lower rad hoses as well as bypass line in Gates and MasterPro. If that helps at all. Still seems limited.

I’ve had great luck with EnviroSafe refrigerant. Works I. R12 and R134a systems- and at lower pressures. It’s super cheap too. I’ve used it in Merced’es, Ford, Chevy, r12 and R134a systems. It’s way better than an r134 conversion of an R12 system.
I would have to disagree with the Car Ninja about the hose clamps there JR. The worm gear clamps are good I agree, but they only clamp down with the force you apply to them whilst installing the new hose. After that they are static, so if the hose or the pipe it attaches to deteriorate it loosens its pressure and you get a creeping leak. A spring clamp of good quality in that scenario keeps on self adjusting as the hose or the pipe deteriorates and tightens it's grip continuously.
G'day, you can buy any brake parts you need from ebay.com.au. There is the cost of shipping from OZ but you do get to pay with Australian dollars, not real dollars. Discs and rotors cost $280AU, ($216US). I know that you cannot wait 4-6 weeks for delivery, but everything is available.
I have a few original oem front rotors if you need a couple. Also, be very careful with the shifter and Do Not press down on it very hard, if you do there is no fix.
