Your video has been a life saver for me today! As a single woman with absolutely no clue on boilers, who was no less clueless after reading the manual.. I could have cried with happiness at Finding your video and following your simple steps to get my house warm again on a night where temperatures are falling to -4c… thank you SO much!
My wife and I watched the video together. By the time I closed TH-cam and turned off the PC my wife had gone to the boiler and fixed the low pressure!!! Thank you so much Colin
5 years on and this video is still saving people! The Manual wasn't helpful showing me 2 blue valves and I couldn't see it as boiler so low in cupboard... My man, you saved ass freezing off even more than normal and got me heat that I wasn't paying for!!! Give that man a medal!!
I'm a student in a student house that was suddenly freezing after I came back from the Christmas holidays. Boiler had low pressure. Such a helpful video! Saved me from a very cold night thank you!
I just followed the instructions and topped up my boiler pressure as a woman this has been an accomplishment today. Thank you so much for the helpful video!
Omg thank you so much 😢 my water pressure has dropped three times in the last two years I've been in my new house and I could not understand the manual OR understand what handles I needed to pull and where. My usual go-to neighbour is not around to save the day so I am glad I found you! There are a few other videos on this but they are not as clear as this one. Thank you so much, another grateful comment on your list from me! Finally we can get warm again ❤
Thanks I was flapping a bit this morning looked at the manual didn’t have a clue, watch your video and the house is warm again and I have gotten hot water. A big thank you great video
This video saved me from giving some pounds out. Was a bit stressed nearly called an engineer to come check out. Landed on this video and it did the magic. Thanks
Thank you so much. Had new boiler fitted 6 months ago and bathroom radiator had a lot of air in. Your video was fantastic. The plumber who fitted the boiler pressurised the system then disconnected the filler loop and capped it off, presumably so I would have to call him out to sort it. Fortunately with my moderate knowledge of plumbing and thanks your video, it is all up and running again.
You would nearly think this is a big secret from talking to boiler guys so thanks so much for sharing this simple but highly effective tip, you're a lifesaver 👍
Thank you! After returning from 2 weeks hol the pressure was zero, no hot water and no heating. Manual made no sense to me. Your video had it sorted in 10 seconds. Thank you.
Going from just below 1 to 1.4 on our Ideal Combi transformed the hot tap pressure in our house. The bath & shower now run so much better than before just by turning a couple of levers! (though the left lever was v.stiff so maybe it was just not properly open). I've gone from zero to hero: Missus having a meltdown has been avoided! Thank you Sir Legend.
Hi, your video is very helpful. But my boiler has 1 blue lever and besides 1 black lever. I'm now little bit confused which one is the right to do pressure up? Could you pls help me to sort it out?
Thanks for this, we live in a new build and the rookie plumbers put one of the blue taps on top (instead of bottom) so couldn't see where the other one was.... I'd been opening the black value on the right thinking that was the filling loop....
Merry Christmas Colin! You saved our Christmas! Your fantastic straightforward clear video helped me to find the right handles to use to top up the pressure on our boiler in a very cold house on Christmas morning. Thanks so much. Hope you have the best Christmas. 😁👍🏼🎄
heating and water hot water went off,i wasnt having much luck with boiler manual,i was about to call out engineer then i remembered youtube!!!!! id fixed it in minutes, thank you
Such a life saver! Looked at other videos but they don't have the exact boiler so wasn't too sure what to do. Glad I found this video, thank you so much!
Lovely stuff. One of the blue handles was really stiff so I had to wrap a tea towel around my hand as I forced it open. Not sure why. All working grand though. Cheers.
Woke up this frosty icy morning to a dead boiler. After panicked messages to my landlady I realized that the boiler needed repressurising! This video helped me to repressurise the system and get the heating and hot water back on in time to get ready for work!
If you cannot find a leak anywhere on this boiler, why does the water pressure drop, my one was installed very recently and the heating has been on probably for the first time, and now its dropped to just below 1 bar, its been used for hw only from installation,, thanks for this video, and i thought I would just ask about why this happens and is it something we will just have to do from time to time,.
Ah, now this one actually looks like my combi boiler I had installed February 2019 because of the location of the pressure gauge being at the front where the other controls are. Because on the other video clips I have seen and was sent by an Ideal Boilers staff member the pressure gauge was underneath and away from the other controls.. My pressure gauge reads zero and needed to read 1.5 bar.. How easy was that.. I will try that and nice to see someone who tells something knowing they are speaking to adults not children. My last Baxi boiler should of gone to an Archaeology museum.. My new combi boiler has reduced my heating and hot water bills by up to 60%. Lubbly Jubbly.. It's one of those cold misty nights here again but I am warm as toast indoors thanks to this video. Well done and thanks for posting. I bet the company are cheesed off with enquiries regarding simple boiler maintenance repair and quite rightly too.?
Very helpful indeed and not worth calling people out over.. Thanks.. I will try to remember the positions of the blue taps after the gauge has risen should be left in. I have a memory like Swiss cheese now and then. My pipes and blue taps and gauge and all other dials are identical to the boiler in the video apart from the blue tap on the right goes up and down instead of side to side. It currently seems to work ok with the larger part of blue tap turned down is off. It certainly re pressurises quickly so getting the needle to stop right on 1.5 bar takes practice. Mine says 2 bar now so I hope it hasn't been over pressurised? I ran the taps and can put the heating on for a while. Is there any way the pressure can be lowered instantly or otherwise if need be? Does it matter if the gauge reaches above 1.5 as long as it doesn't go into the red?
Had to pressurise Combi again, after over a year of it being ok. No sign of any obvious leaks anywhere. Maybe it just loses pressure over time and with things like the washing machine and or shower being used? It takes longer to get to the boiler than it does to do the job.
Excellent, potential problem solved in less than two mins - many thanks - (glad you made a point about the heat - thumbs up) Try this one for two mins please - How do I make the display Auto sleep (blank screen) ? as my new Logic max Combi C 24 wants to stay lit 24/7. It is one day old. Help appreciated, regards, Jim.
If I can’t remember which way is turned off or on …can I just leave one horizontal and the other vertical until the other people that know are back at the house?
Great video! I'm a gas engineer and was wondering what it is you're using around the boiler pipes to seal them? Looks like a letter box draught excluder? Think it looks a great solution, advise would love to steal that idea if you wouldn't mind?
I had to do this twice it’s still drops to just under one. Other thing is now my radiators are warm on top half but not bottom & seems to be all the downstairs rads. Any advice welcome. The gas engineer had been out said my heat exchanger had gone he replaced it & told me to top up the pressure if it dropped. He turned it on & off he went but didn’t hang around to see if the rads heated up. It’s less than a week. Shld I call them up get them out again?
Great video - thank u as it saved me call out charges and also having to ring up husband who is out of country. However my boiler although exactly same as yours, had a black lever also so its one blue & one black at the front. There were 2 blue (one at the back) but that didn’t work so then i closed the back blue and tried the front blue & front black and viola! 😅
The blue and black taps on my boiler are positioned differently to the boiler in the video. I have two blue valves left side of the loop (facing) and two black on the other side of the loop.........a bit confusing.
Had my old previous boiler. Was working without any single issue at all. Council ordered people to swap old for this model. And the pressure is dropping every now anf then . Is it normal ? Should i bleed the radiators ( they seem to be heating correctly)
Great video, just been bleeding my radiators in sub zero weather, realised I've never done this for my new boiler. Why don't the instructions just say pull the blue levers? 😭 Who writes these manuals? Such a simple process, I'd still be trying to figure it out 😄🤦🏻♂️
One and a half hours reading the manual and getting nowhere then 90 seconds of your advise and up and running !! Thank you very much indeed .
Same here🎉
Same here! Thank god for TH-cam 😂
Same here! Time-saver...Thanks
I lost a liter of water of my body by looking at the error message. I got it back. Super helpful

What a fantastic video - simple, clear and no messing around! Thank you!

Million thanks. I'm 72 and found your video very clear and easy to follow. Heating now on.

Fantastic easy explanation, first time I’ve had to do this. Much easier to understand than the instructions in the manual.
Same as others, plenty time reading the manual and with your video we re pressurised in seconds! Nice and simple thank you!
I watch this video a couple of times a year, so thank you
Thank you for keeping this super short and sweet!
Nearly called a boiler out; you just saved me a call out fee for a ten second fix! Thank you

Waiting for my boiler installer when I thought of you tube. Tried this and it worked immediately ..Thankyou
Merry Christmas Colin! You saved our Christmas! Your fantastic straightforward clear video helped me to find the right handles to use to top up the pressure on our boiler in a very cold house on Christmas morning. Thanks so much. Hope you have the best Christmas. 😁👍🏼🎄

So helpful thank you so much. Very easy to follow and saved me spending £120 on a British Gas engineer call out 🙏🏾
Thank you very much. Saves me having to call British Gas. Followed your instructions, and it works now.
As belows comments... instruction book made me feel like attempting brain surgery, your instructions were so easy to follow , and successful too !!!!
Lovely stuff. One of the blue handles was really stiff so I had to wrap a tea towel around my hand as I forced it open. Not sure why. All working grand though. Cheers.
Simple when you know how!! Brilliant thank you so much. Had read the manual first which didnt help at all! This worked perfectly.
The amount of times I've came back to this video 😆 thanks again for the 100th time x
Life saver! Thank you! What happens if it's winter, so the radiators had been on when the pressure dropped and I don't bleed them?
Thank you so much , this is my new boiler and I managed to do this so much easier with your wonderful instruction
Absolute lifesaver. Instruction book was gibberish this solved issue in less than 30 secs
Bailed me out of a stressful situation, many thanks
Brilliant advice! Simple and straight to the point. Thank you very much!
Hello, thanks so much for the video. How long should it be turned on?
Just popped back again for my annual tutorial. Thanks again. See you next year. 😂
Thank you so very much! You've just saved me a plumbers call-out fee.
Wow lol I'd been struggling for hours, legend
Thank you!! So helpful! It’s 2am and I was dreading having a cold shower 😂 saved me time from calling someone in the morning!!
Total legend....now up and running..
Thank you for this guide I was able to follow your instructions and now my heat is on again. 🎉
Hi Colin. Back again. See you next year....... ❤
The house was cold, now it’s not. I’m happy. Thumbs up 👍
Woke up this frosty icy morning to a dead boiler. After panicked messages to my landlady I realized that the boiler needed repressurising! This video helped me to repressurise the system and get the heating and hot water back on in time to get ready for work!
Theola Marshall same here.

Thank you for explanation, but I have an opposite problem. The pressure rise when I turn it on. Any suggestion please?
I only have 1 blue valve and its stuck it's also 5am cold and I have a newborn idk what to doooo
I have the series 18 and the adjustment was by the water tank in the airing cupboard
grt video. how do i reduce the pressure if i put too much in just under 2bar?
Ah, now this one actually looks like my combi boiler I had installed February 2019 because of the location of the pressure gauge being at the front where the other controls are. Thank You saved a load of hassle with all the different taps and pipes...
Followed you to the letter Brilliant...
🤩🤩
Another person saved today. Thank you. !
Had to pressurise Combi again, after over a year of it being ok. No sign of any obvious leaks anywhere. Maybe it just loses pressure over time and with things like the washing machine and or shower being used? It takes longer to get to the boiler than it does to do the job.
Much easier to represurise the boiler using this short clip. The manual isn't clear at all! Thank you.
Did this video this morning and hey bingo worked perfect
I wish I could like this video more than once. I'd do it every year when I bleed my radiators and can't remember how to top the boiler up again. 😂
Excellent, potential problem solved in less than two mins - many thanks - (glad you made a point about the heat - thumbs up)

Thank you for your help to understand and solve the troublesome water heater.

Thank you for this!!! Heating is up and running again
Is the effect supposed to be immediate? I just tried this and nothing happened. Think I will have to call the Ideal customer service line tomorrow
Hi! After doing this should the hot water and radiators just turn themselves back on when heated up?
I cannot believe it was that easy... Thanks very much
Thank you! Saved me so much time and effort 👌 🎉❤
Oh my goodness thank you so so much for showing me how to put the pressure up.👍👍
Ohh thanks I been spending 30min. Every night and trying worm up on luck.but now I fully understand.
Great video - thank u as it saved me call out charges and also having to ring up husband who is out of country. However my boiler although exactly same as yours, had a black lever also so its one blue & one black at the front. Quick & easy topping up the boiler thanks to this video
Your are a total legend! Heatings back on!
2 second job because of this video. Thank you.
Sorry! May I know the power should on when adjust the pressure?
The blue and black taps on my boiler are positioned differently to the boiler in the video. I have two blue valves left side of the loop (facing) and two black on the other side of the loop.........a bit confusing.
Easy to follow instructions. Thanks mate.
Saves me 60 quid call-out fee tomorrow and a cold morning shower. This is what the old TH-cam was for!
Did exactly as you said, doesn't move, can't even hear water flowing. Any ideas?
omg thanks! i needed wash my hair and i was sat there for like half an hour but i watcjed this and it happened straight away! THANKSSS
Thanks. We have an Esprit eco and the taps are grey but managed to work it out from your video, so thanks!!
Had my old previous boiler. Was working without any single issue at all. Council ordered people to swap old for this model. And the pressure is dropping every now anf then . Is it normal ? Should i bleed the radiators ( they seem to be heating correctly)
How about the black tap? Should it remains open or closed?

Thanks for posting this, Colin, you're a gem!
This is exactly what TH-cam is and should be for. Great video and thank you for the upload....saved me calling someone out
How do you lower boiler pressure?
The rightmost blue lever will turn but the second one in will not. Don’t want to force it. Any ideas?
You’re the man Colin 👍
Thank you so much for this video. So very helpful 👍👍
Just topped my boiler after watching this video. Thanks
Hello! My boiler brand is Ideal.Suddenly my boiler jumping a number and saying low , what does mean?
You saved my life !!! 😃 Thank you very much ! 🙏
