How is that wax going to work out long term? How stable is it?

Encaustic is extremely stable as long as it is not exposed to extreme temperatures such as freezing or being place above a wood stove. Wax-based paintings have survived since Greco-Roman times. Happy to share additional resources with you if you are interested.
