Hello my friend, thank you very much to take the time to do this video for the less informed people like me. I own a 1996 yamaha virago 750 and I think I have the sync problem in my carbs (mikuni brand if I remember correctly) I tried to take them to the shop but it is so expensive here in Souther California, at least for me. Any how I need to fix it so I took them out myself without knowing much about except with the help of you guys and your videos posted in this great channel. I cleaned them the best I cut, didnt replaced any parts just soaked and cleaned and it improved a lot my bike performance ( fire back explosions almost gone) but now feels like some times going to on high speed y/o 65 to 75 miles x hour and all the sun my bike start loosing speed on his own. So what I do is droop from 5th gear down to 4th gear and the rpms doing up again and start gaining speed. Back to 5th gear and goes well for a few minutes and go and do the same again. I ride to my work about 21 miles one way and do that 2 or 3 times during that period. Also this causing over usage in my gasoline compsuntion. I will really appreciate any tips or info from you if possible. Thanks again and keep posting good stuff the way you been doing. Cheers. This is my Email if you wish to send me any info: aval1993@yahoo.com

There's one mistake, that's even in some books. The part of the needle you dropped in first, is actually going on top and there's where the spring goes on. Whoever is watching the video, do not do it this way, your bike will not run too well. The bigger plastic part needs to sit on top, then the needle and the cover. Very important for a well-functioning carb.

Great video! Just bought one of these and it's idling too low. You showed me where the idle adjustment screw is and now she's purring. Thanks!

Hey great video .. just a quick question. I think my carbs are out of synch . So do you hook up the gauges to nipple at the intakes ?

Great video thanks ! Did you ever have your bike run where both pipes were spewing white smoke ? Mine is and I just can't figure it out ???

generally white smoke is indicative of a head gasket leaking coolant. But on an air cooled bike it doesnt make sense.

Agree! Bike has never done this in its lifetime . A couple of biker friends have looked at it and shook their heads. 🙁

White smoke could be caused if there is water in the gas. same approach. Or if the engine is running very lean as a result.

@@Makswerks1 I have a 94 virago 535cc. While trying to teach a beginner, the engine was revved high going in 1st gear (I think) for too long. Now, spraying fuel from the vacume box and blowing white smoke. Im thinking possibly burst a bladder in the carb with the fuel coming from what I believe to be a vacume line? Could that be all thats wrong or could it be something else?

@@johnskipper2619 best bet would be to take apart the carbs for inspection.

I found your video very helpful, but you did get one thing wrong. In a vtwin the rear jet is always bigger.
Richer= cooler and less power, leaner= hotter and more power.
The rear jet needs to be bigger (richer) because the rear cylinder doesn't get as much air cooling and is prone to overheating.

Normally that is true, however I checked the Yamaha XV manual and the front is 128, rear is 122 with the Hitachis, 125 and 122.5 in the Mikunis - front gets a bigger jet. The Virago is a strange bird :)

How do you know that it's two and a half turn for the rear carb?? :)

    • @Makswerks1
      @Makswerks1  5 ปีที่แล้ว

Its a good starting place for a stock bike based on the manual.

Okay - I found the manual but I can’t find the two and a half turn :) but I will try it, my virago 1100 idle a bit high, it goes between 800-2000rpm for some reason, I Think it’s a carb problem, but it’s clean inside and the intake isn’t cracked but I can see that someone had tampered with the screw so I maybe think it could be that

@@jackmoeslund5034 normally surging is an indication of running lean. Clean out the idle jets, make sure the fuel screw is set right.

MaksWerks I have cleaned the carb from top to bottom because my brother in law hadn’t started it for a year before I bought it, I think I will get the kit that you are using so I can renovate it.
I know there’s a problem with the fuel screw, I saw after first test drive that the rear exhaust was red hot, so I checked the spark plugs, it was running too rich, so I turned the fuel screw a little over 5 turns in and then 1,5 out,, I can feel that it missing some power so I will try 1 turn more out..
Is it both the front and rear carb screw that you will recommend 2,5 turns or is it only the rear ?
Btw great video, I like working with engines but it been about 13 years since I last worked on a carburetor, so I have forgotten a bit about them :)

@@jackmoeslund5034 Its been a while since I had this thing but I believe its 2 turns front, 2.5 turns rear cause the rear doesnt cool as well.
