Excellent video and review of the Turner Microphones. I find your videos and reading material very well done and enjoy it all. Keep up the super work you do Gregg as it does not go by unrecognized and is very meaningful as well as educational. 73.
It's great I stumbled upon this channel. I just love my Super Sidekick. Always get good audio report anywhere else in the world. And with only 20 watts of power output, may only have S2, S5 on the other end but always a Q5. But I do have questions though. My first SSK I got mid 80's. Repainted to metellic silver from the previous owner. Still got the chrome plated head. And last 2023, a good friend of mine gave me his SSK as a present in true stock form. It has different name plate. My first one got TURNER and the other got Turner. Which is older? But here's the catch. I opened both to see the inside and there's a big difference. The one from my friend is exactly the same on what showed in this video, but my first one, first, looks like the Relay/Electronic switch has been taken off and it has an 8 pin audio IC instead of the 4 pin. I've done some research but to no avail and I'm dyin' to find some answers. To end it up, both has booming audio makin' me loud and clear. Appreciate it very much and have a good one.
Yes, there were some early Super Sidekicks like the SSK-100 and I believe there was another as well. Love to see some pics if you still have the mics? 73-Gregg s9radio
Nice video. I'd like to know more about your yest setup. Such how the mic audio was captured. Also the software, i have some mics I'd like to see their actual audio bandwidth.
Didn't liked the first 3 the last one was excellent. Always improving but still remained original. A shame they are discontinued. I have some old +3B to refurbish
I grew up in Cedar Rapids and drove past where the original business was located several times. Rockwell Collins is also located there to this day.
I learned so much from this video. Please make more videos in the same style or a similar sequence that was done so well!

Excellent walk down memory lane! Over the years I’ve operated and owned just about every one you have displayed! Thanks!!😊
I have so many of those Turners that it is crazy. I love the Turner mics
My all time favorite mics, Turner Plus 3 and Plus 3B on the base station and Turner RK76 in the mobile.
Outstanding work!
Thank you for taking the time to make this video.
Very cool!

Awesome comparison. Thanks for sharing this info.
I have always preferred them over Astatic.
A flashback to those great 23ch days

audio was captured using the FT-1000's line-level out into an isolated impedance matched XFMR/soundcard recorded then uploaded to the video.
@s9radio cool, I'd like to test some of my mics like that. I think i found the software you used.
Turner mics were so good. I had a CS1 that sounded great.
Now you should do this type of compairson with the Astatic and Shure microphones.
Did Turner make mics for Communications Power? CPI
That's what he said, and yes they did. At least what I know, the handheld in CPI's colour scheme.
Yes I spelled colour this way. G'day from Australia.
Yes, an unamplified desk mic that I reviewed in the CPI videos I've done here on YT. 73 - Gregg s9radio
