This was Betty Wright later in her career, part of a moderately-successful comeback she had in the 80's. Her heyday was the early 70's. She was very young when she came onto the scene in the late 60's. She was never a huge superstar, but she managed to occasionally have some memorable hits. "Clean Up Woman" is her biggest and best-known hit, but among soul music aficionados, the full 8-minute live version of "Tonight is the Night" is THE classic Betty Wright tune. As well as an extraordinary singer, she is also known as a great songwriter and producer. She was very involved in the early career of British soul singer Joss Stone, co-writing and co-producing several of her hits in the 2000's.

The 1960's to me was the greatest decade for Soul, Rhythm & Blues and Funk. There were two areas of America that helped produce black music better then anyplace in the world...And that was Detroit Michigan and Philadelphia Pennsylvania in the United States. In Detroit it was called "Motown." In Philadelphia it was called "The Philly Sound." Together these two black production companies. Turned out the greatest collection of black artist the world has ever seen. And people of today are starting to get a picture of how truly great the sound was....Awesome choices. and great reactions as always. Peace!

Can't get enough of the soulful Spinners and this song! Yes, the three different voices are a treat! The two males are Bobby Smith on lead vocals, and Pervis Jackson had the deep voice. Jackson's nickname was "Mr. 12: 45," from one of his lines in this song at your 4:21 mark. :-) And a back-up singer named Evette Benton sang the female part. ... My all-time favorite Spinners song is "Could It Be I'm Falling in Love?" from 1972, with Smith on lead vocals again.

When I heard the song "No pain no gain" I was thinking about the Rocky 4 movie when his coach often said "No pain no gain!" 😁

The Spinners were a great group! This probably isn't their strongest track. If I were your DJ & you wanted to try some Spinners, I'd start you with "I'll Be Around" then maybe follow it up with "Could It Be I'm Falling In Love" & "Rubberband Man" :)
