- How to paint your car using rattle cans.
I am not a professional but I did some research before performing this. It turned out better than I expected and I believe you can also do it too.

For those of you wondering why I have that suv parked so close, that suv was a rust bucket and was getting sent to the junk yard 🤣
Black is the hardest colour to paint, it shows every imperfection! Your job looks good besides showing the old clear lines but it's a big job to hide all of that. You did a great job and I loved the video.
I appreciate it, i definitely learned a lot after doing this.
Sand further, fill with bondo, sand smooth would have fixed your lines showing through. Couple more coats of primer would have helped also. Otherwise, pretty good job. You're one of the few I see who wet sanded after the clear to remove the orange peel. Nice work overall.
Bondo before or after the primer?
@@chrismulhauser333 Bondo before the primer and it should also be applied to bare metal.
Crack up. You’re an expert at painting yet here you are on a how to video lol shut up and watch like the rest of us
That turned out great! Not bad results for your first time and doing it with a spray can. Awesome video thanks for sharing.
Went to three places and they all want about 1500 bucks for this. Looks like I’m doing it myself!!!!
Awesome video and very detailed thank you so much truck driver from Southern California
Thank you so much!
Very thorough.
Thank you
Bro!!! That looks awesome man!
I’ve got to do the hood on my fJ cruiser. I’m going to do exactly how you did thanks for instruction. Doesn’t have to be perfect but for the money you save well worth it. Great job!
I appreciate it man! Yes it’s not Perfect but it sure looks way better and cheaper than taking to the body shop. Good luck! 👊
Very well done, buy you've got to use a respirator, especially with the 2k stuff
Thank you, will do next time.
Excellent Job!!!
My hood looks awful..I think I'm going to try this! Looks good
Just take it to maaco. The cost in rattlecans will be $200, with sandpaper, an extra $20 something dollars and the average MAACO will charge 300.
You are only saving about 80 bucks and chances are it will show in the quality.
My recommendation is only paint bumpers DIY style, not anything metal.
Regardless goodluck though
@@vom4164Maaco quoted me $950 to repaint the hood alone 😩
$300 for what?
NICE JOB FOR FIRST TIME... WAY TO GET IN THERE AND DO IT YOURSELF...
Appreciate that 👊
That looks fantastic! Great work
Thanks Brian - this is very helpful!
Very good thank you!
Awesome, great job
From a professional in the auto repair industry: your first reported paint job is pretty good, minus the small sanding defects from the primer. Only big issue I would say to you is to make sure to a get a respirator mask, especially with all the carcinogens inside that 2K clear coat. Take from my experience, you don't want any lung diseases popping up on you out of nowhere. They're definitely not joke when it happens. Other than that, pretty decent work. Keep practicing your craft and you'll do well.
Working on my f150 front bumper grill and Hood. And the roof that's bad. First time doing it. What I see that you've done is just as good as I do probably better than me. You did a good job. If do you ever do it again. Take more time on each step. I bet you'll do even better. As is great job.
Good job all things considered. I have to do this to my hood also and saw what pattern you used.
What cons would you take from your experience?
I was told to let the paint cure for 3 weeks at least before washing and waxing/ polishing it
Just started doing this and I managed to get the peeling clear coat lines to blend in with the rest of the good paint . I kept running my fingers over the lines to see if I could feel it or not.
Everything go well so far.
Awesome! The more you do it the better you get at it.
Wow! he spayed that clear coat next to his other car..
Best how ti video Yet I have viewed...God Bless You
Can you share how long this paint job took you in hours
I am presently sanding my whole version.. Honda 2000 ACCORD SE
I have previously paint an Oldsmobile..came out better than is appeared before
But I did not know about wet sanding ...and how to spray the paint . ..lightly then again...I feel 4 coats is best. 4 coats of clear
Very time consuming..but spray paint dries fast also
Thank you again
I wilk need to continue to view videos to learn more
Anyone can do this...hard work though
God Bless You ❤❤❤❤❤
Great Job, God Bless !!!
Thank you!
You did a good job. Sand a lot before primer then use a primer / surfacer high build and apply 3 coats and finish with 800 grit. That should fill in the clear coat marks
Thank you! Will for sure do that next time.
What is a primer “high build”?
I realize that you may not have sanded enough at the beginning, but anyway, thanks for sharing, i need to do same thing 😅
You could’ve sprayed more primer where it was uneven but it’s still a good job and only visible when really close and sun hits it .
Looks Great. 😊
Thank you! 💙
@@BrianBalatbat I have a feeling mine will not turn out so good. 😂
Hi thanks a lot for the video. You did a great job! Can you please share the links of the items you purchased ? thanks in advance.
Good on ya for going out of your comfort zone. It looks good. How is it holding up?
Great job
Thank you
How many cans of clear, primer and paint are needed to complete hood and top part?
Very good vid!
How long did you wait between applying coats?
Sweet!
Thank you
My wife is a car enthusiast and taking courses in learning the English language.
She told me about your video: ''How to paint a car at home using Rattle Snake''.
I TOLD HER THAT I WOULD NEVER USE YOU TO PAINT MY CAR.
My face looked painted BLACK AND BLUE the next day.🤣😂😂
🤣🤣🤣 that’s hilarious
Hi Brian, I need to do my Honda CRV hood. Is there anything you would have done differently? Would you invest in a gun and quart of paint instead? Was this cost effective? Thank you for your honest video and any suggestions!!
Hi there, make sure you sand down the old clear coat pretty well and even. You don’t really need a gun if you’re just painting the hood. Just follow what I did with the video and you should be ok. And yes it was cost effective. Body shop wanted to charge $500 to just paint the hood. This cost me about $200 with everything and I learned something new in the process.
Thank you!!
great job
Thank you!
That helped
Awesome
How did you get your hood off?
They usually have 4 bolts holding the hood 2 on each side
Hey how much did all the supplies cost u? Even if it's a ballpark number. N good shit I need to do the same on mine or seeing if I can find a decent hood at a junkyard.
rep prep prep, it's all about the prep. I think that you know that you didn't sand the original paint well enough. Unfortunately, it's next to impossible to tell on video how close you are to having sanded it all out, but it could prove an interesting experiment to try to "fix" this as opposed to redoing it. The traditional answer is to sand it down to get it even, prime anyplace you sanded through, and then base and clear.
OK. I'd be tempted to try to fix it instead, especially if the hood is otherwise flat: instead of sanding it down completely, start with 1000grit (I might consider 600 or 800, but being inexperienced I'd tell you to start with 1000, it will go slower but you'll be less likely to mess it up), and try to see if you can even it out without sanding into the basecoat. Even possibly giving it a heavier coat of clear over and around the uneven areas first. If you can manage to even it out or get it really close without significantly sanding into the base then you could go over what you have left with just clear, kind of like doing a flow coat, and then buff and finish.
As far as your overall technique goes- you don't have to go as light for the first layer, that's mostly to prevent runs and chemical reactions in difficult situations, which a hood laying flat is not. Going that light might result in a sandy surface on your later coats, just more work to smooth out. Second, especially for the base and clear, keep your spray pattern going front to back to front, with the length of the car. That is less likely to cause any mottling/zebra stripes that you'll notice when you're done (your eyes won't be as likely to notice it if it's there it goes with the length of the car).
not bad at all you save yourself $2000
Thank you, definitely saved some $
I have 2014 mazda 3 black and scratched my side panel and door with a dent. I need to pull and fix the dent first and then use filling and spray paint. Lets see how it goes. Any advice?
Yes pull the dent out and use bondo to even it out. My only advice is to make sure you sand off old clear coat best as you can so it doesn’t show with new paint like it did to me.
hey man i hope you respond just wondering if you have link of product that you got on amazon thanks!
You will have problems with adhesion and longevity waiting that long between base and clear coat. Best to wait no longer than 1 hour for the best chemical adhesion.
Why would you park your cars so close to the spray mist?
It was a rust bucket that was about to be sent to the junkyard.
Looked at plate stuck in engine bay says my car is grey. Haha. Only problem. It's black.
Great job and detailed video!I have two questions: 1. Does it need to be wet sanded after the second clear coat? 2. Do you have to remove the hood in order to paint it?
Thanks! I’m trying to do everything on my own with my car too.
a high build 2k primer will hide a lot. Tip for next time.
Thanks!
No worry about overspraying those other cars?
They’re fine
Dude good job, but never paint like that 1. In direct sun and 2. Around other peoples cars.
A sponge!??!? Wow there really is more than one way to skin a cat.
Great products for a great paint job... but thats as far as it goes preparation was horrible primer and clear was flying all over the cars around your job... 🤦🏾♂️
Super dangerous to be painting 2K without a proper mask.
So , you fix one cars and over spray all the cars around you…
Next time do it in your garage.
The other cars are fine. No space in the garage.
All the gear and no idea!! That is absolutely atrocious dude.
Aw, thx for the comment.
you do everything wrong, the result is awful
Coooooooooooooooooooool
Good job 👍
Thank you
how many cans of clear coat did you use?
you did an AMAZING JOB....
Thank you!
Looks solid
Thank you
Thank you great idea about to paint the hood of car too!
Awesome job. ❤
Thx!
I do 4 coats of color.
4 coats of clear.
Experience ...holds better
Cannot do a car wash painted this way...only by hand ..gentle
Thank you for yoyr video assistance ..great help ❤
I thought you had to put the clear over slightly wet base coat to give the clear something to grab onto. One other video showed a 10 minute window between coats. ?
This is perfect. What videos did you watch for research? Thank you!
I had my doubts. But... looks pretty darn good!!
Next time... move the part elsewhere... or move the cars away!!
When you buffed it, what compound did you use? And did you apply it with a foam pad?
What grit did you use to sand after the 1st coat of primer?
Great video.. direct and you made it really clear..-
is the buffering compulsory or optional
Great video. Wondering how the hood is holding up after 1 year. Thanks!
Thank you, wish I can show you but the car was sold after this 🤣 I’m sure it still looks good
Thanks for sharing your video it was very informative 👍
No problem thank you for watching 👊
Great job
Thank you!
That paint job is going to start peeling from the window wash sprayers first.......should of taken them off.
How do you concur on that? Would like to know cause I plan on doing this to my hood
@@hhova29those nozzles are made of plastic, but you need a special primer on plastic. So, not being prepped in any way, the paint will not bond properly and will come off - tearing away the paint around it as well.
