An utterly vile regime and of utmost importance that sites like this are preserved no matter how uncomfortable and appalled they make us feel.

@@timrodierides I sort of get it. I think it entirely depends on how you're filming. Doing selfies, self promotion, or doing star jumps, laying across the train tracks, etc is a definite no no. My own view is the horrific descriptions of what went on should be emphasised more. I think we're getting to the stage of the media sanitising those atrocities making them sound no worse than speeding, because speeding is a really horrendous offence these days!

Excellent series! With everything we are experiencing in the world today, those dark days are perhaps not so distant. When I woke up this morning, little did I know I’d shed a tear watching a bike video. Great work, and I’m sure I’d not be alone in suggesting you do more bike / history tours. This is an amazing series of videos Tim. the amazing motorcycling roads aside, the historic content is portrayed without bias and judgement - man’s inhumanity towards man - well put together. Lest we forget! whoever or whatever they fought for, the thousands upon thousands from all sides lost because they were fighting for a “cause”. May they rest in peace...

Fantastic series Tim, top work!! :) Thanks for bringing us both some summer bike entertainment but also some important history that should not be forgotten!! I've taken my kids to Tyne Cot and the Menin Gate as I think it's important we ensure they understand what went on and continue to appreciate and remember those who helped ensure we have the freedoms we continue to enjoy today! I'm sure you'll do the same with your girls when they are old enough.
I usually blast past most of these sites when on the bike, so it's really good to visit them vicariously, and WILL stop off there some time and spend the time they deserve there!! The North Voges are decent enough, but as you say, they are more for getting there/getting back home than a destination in themselves...

Tim these European tour/history lesson videos are spectacular! All your videos are great, but these give me a vibe of the original Top Gear. Scenery is breathtaking and inspiring, your personality and humor are infectious, and then there’s the bikes. It wasn’t until you started visiting WWI and WWII sites and paying respect and homage to the people who suffered through that dark time in history that I truly became a fan. I was entertained and now I’m extremely impressed. When you showed us the inside of the concentration camp, I was astounded. I kept thinking how selfish I am for feeling like I have bad days after these reminders of how people have suffered. I love the war history with the tour. It separates you from many others doing motovlogs and thrusts you above them all! At 6’3”” you were probably already there. Love you buddy and thank you. Stay safe my friend!

You set something of a benchmark, I think, in the aspect of motovlogs not always having to be lah dee dah. Great that you show what actually interests you despite of the views. I am always ashamed when I find out time and time again how little I know of the historic facts of horrors mankind apparently are capable of and still are. Although ignorant to an acceptable level, I am not one to turn his head away, but we should always be aware of what’s lurking beneath the surface. Not in fear, but inspired to bring the positive and actually act when we see practice that defies the ethics of mankind. And enjoy riding motorcycles whilst doing that, because it’s our freedom. Something once worth giving your life for.

They gave camp prisoners testimony about how they heard the screams and struggles as the agent think it was the last one was pushed into the furnace still alive and conscious very chilling to think of it. I believe from what they said they were all alive but three were more or less unconscious.

Its surprising that it was mainly old(er) people in the UK who would have memories of the war and its atrocities who voted for Brexit… the EU was set up to stop this ever happening ah]agin as its primary directive.

Agreed. It seems to me it’s only younger people who have an interest in history understand this. Contemporary politicians don’t seem able to articulate the main purpose of the European project.

Great series of Vlogs. Can I ask did you sort out the XT2. I'm on the cusp of buying either an XT or XT2. Which would you recommend? Thanks

    • @timrodierides
      @timrodierides  ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks! Garmin just replaced my XT2 and the new one hasn't had any problems - I've a feeling that its premature demise was caused by super-high frequency bar vibes from the M1000R. The one I've had since has been fine, but I've also not used it on that bike and I haven't done the same mileage with it yet, so it's too early to say. Bennett's Bike Social did a written review of one and they had the exact same problem as me, so I wonder if the very early review units sent to journalists had this problem, and they've maybe since fixed it?

Great video, and like everyone else, I agree that this is really important history to keep alive, especially as the far right is getting disturbing traction here and there around the European region. I’ve also driven past Natzweiler many times with absolutely no clue as to its WWII history, so every day’s a school day.
Loved the rest of the video too, and yes, Trier looks rather nice.
I’ve never giggled passing Bitche. Ever. Absolutely not.

Thank you Tim, really enjoying these vids. As a side note, my 2014 S1000R would regularly hit 260 km/h in what appeared to be a similar distance and time....and it was 165bhp...would've guessed more from the M?!...(I lived in Canada at the time around quiet rural roads 😇)

I’ve put a topbox, centre stand and the comfort seat on my ‘21 MT09SP and planning on doing something similar for a couple of weeks. As a fellow long person I’m slightly concerned about being in the wind for so long. Maybe i should give in to GS-dom. How miserable was the slog home?

    • @timrodierides

The ride home was fine, just tedious! Normally I'd wiggle my way home from Trier along some reasonably fun Belgian roads, but I wanted to get back to pick my daughter up from nursery at 5pm, so that was my goal this time!

Apparently, the pronunciation of Brötchen is really important especially in down into Austria. Tried to get a bread roll one morning after missing hotel breakfast hours, ended up with a ham salad. There was a slice of bread underneath, so it tenuously met the bread brief, but with unexpected extras.
