Dude has always seemed like the crazy guy across the street screaming about the apocalypse but the more I start to understand what he says, the more I understand how much on another level he is
what Ryan Hughes is saying goes for quad racers also . it helped improve my lap times and im on the podium more . this guy is amazing at what he does . i wish i could have private lessons with him
Reminds me of a good friends dad who brought us up surfing, he would straight forward off for hours tipping back fosters telling us how to surf better and improve our style instead of just trying to go harder/bigger... when we listened we started ripping wayyy harder.
Well. At a much higher level of skill and technique there are very small things you can do to make big gains. For average joes like us. It doesn't make a difference. For a professional. Having a few centimeters of extra movement in their upper body results in serious gains. Ryan was riding in a time where the vast majority of guys used neckbraces and the technique wasnt at the level it is currently (not to say there was no technique. They were crazy technical, just that the game has elevated again as it always does with time).
My leatt always made my neck and shoulders feel off. And not being able to look as far forward as i could while standing was definitely an issue. Id rather not have them.
Hughes has been teaching guys to get better for decades. He just knows his stuff. And, the results bear that out. He's almost like a Moto Savant. He sounds like a lunatic because he's so passionate about it that he just can't stop talking. But if you really listen and apply what he's saying, it works. 100%.
I’ve always loved and respected Ryno. Straight shooter, disciplined laser FOCUSED. My only regret is that I never got to go to one of his schools/classes. I have Parkinson’s now but I still love this sport.
The neck-brace point he brings up is interesting. Because, barcia has started riding better with out one, but Villopoto always had one and still rode fine, so it's interesting to see that point.
Love it when guys think this deep about bikes. And even car racing.. It’s almost a spiritual connection with the bike. And if you can ‘feel’ it like he says, it does make you stand out that tiny bit more than someone with the same skills.
Ryno was way ahead of the curve on technique. I remember him breaking down rider technique back in 2011 and how RV unlocked his hips and how his potential for speed was the best in the field
Just curious, what do you consider the qualities that attract you to becoming a fan of a rider? Like for me, it comes down to raw grit and determination like RC...great skill, but even tougher in drive.
Wow I wish we had utube in the 80s I attended David Thorpe training school in 84 amazing day, but imagine working with Ryan explaining technic to help us understand his technic, 😊

Just cant get past the take off all the protective gear to go faster thing. Why not the helmet, boots ect... what about mouth guard, Kenny still wears wrist protection maybe take it off and win every race.
Slowing down to get better. It works! I’ve been riding a 125 for the last year and I’m sooo much better than I was before. Cant wait to get back on a 250 and put it to work 🤙🏻
@@jif4639 It was a move I decided to do that helped greatly. I’m faster after riding a 125 for a year and focus on technique than I was trying to wrestle a 450 and this video applied to that. That’s all I’m saying :)
Im not saying Ryan is at fault. But, Tomac is one of the most inconsistent pro riders. Tomac has won all of the titles he's gonna win. He will have zero until retirement.
Ryno is a legend. Marvin is an awesome rider and I dont believe technique is his issue in the whoops. Maybe the mental scars of what happened to his brother makes him not commit 100% in the whoops. The guy is a 2 time World Champion and won in America. Wish my technique was as bad as his!
What happened to his brother? I would love to see Marv get a championship in the States, not sure how long he has left on his factory KTM contract, I'm not sure they'd sign him up again unless he starts regularly performing like he did in the 2nd heat race on Tuesday.

And what happened this evening....that shitty technique just beat Cooper straight up....bwahaahah......sure technique gets you halfway but HEART trumps all!!!
I've always tried to explain to people that the way I ride has to be slightly different. I'm 5'11". But I'm all legs. If my girlfriend is 5'8". If she sits in my car to drive she actually has to move the seat down and forward. So when I get in to drive I have to put the seat up and back. Because my torso is actually the same length as my girlfriend who is 3 inches shorter. So when I ride I have to stay in a more squatted stance. Not with legs out but that in order to be balanced on the bike I have to stay with my legs bent more than most guys. Which makes it harder because I'm in a resistance position all the time.
The minute man approach to riding. Less is more and more is less ! Speed and agility are brothers and only work well together in concert. Being one with the machine is best achieved when each are unhindered and able to perform fluidly as one entity. How fast could a bike be if that bike could perform its function without a rider ? It would be unstoppable and would never be caught!
I hear yah RYNO, but RV2 wore the neck brace and he is a fucking legend. He did have that separation you speak of though he let that bike work and he was super loose on his machine.
Eli pointed out where he was killing them in the final 10 minutes, and everyone began watching the tapes. I REALLY thought he was sandbagging during the heat race at Atlanta 2, and was gonna smoke-em again on that fast track, but it didn't happen.....I dunno.... Wait so Neck-braces can hurt your Technique?? I've ALWAYS felt that way and tried to Wear the lowest Profile Braces and Protective Support/Gear to the Point that NOW I Barely wear any aside from Boots, Pants, chest Protector, Jersey and Helmet (& the occasional Knee Pads/Braces)... Ryan villopoto won all his championships with a neck brace, jason anderson also won his and was waaay faster with a neckbrace, alpinesatars neck frace don’t even interfere with your ridding its the rider and bike
