I think the denied bases forced the attack in at the end for Zest
Also I'm pretty sure 3-4 tempest with seismic destabilizers would've helped so much - Zest just kept getting zoned out by lib-planetary-turret and then Maru counterattacks and denies a base. The Mothership recalls were cute, but Tempests would have let Zest set up a siege for a slow advantage over time (preventing Maru from easily hunkering down), and I don't think a few tempests would weaken his army in a straight-up engage enough to matter.
Tectonic destabilizes
Zest's end game was too much of a "Hail Mary". More patience was needed.
Yes, he kept throwing away carrier to deny bases instead of taking new one. Every time he lost 3-4 carriers and a. Inch of stalkers to Maru for nothing.

FYI what pros do not resemble anything in plat and diamond, where every game start with a cannon rush if there is a Protoss involved.
And there would never be 5 plat and diamond games with a protoss and no carriers.

I feel like maru could have kited a lot more with his 40+ vikings in the last game, especially when zest destroyed his base. Even if the viking would only kill interceptors, it would have made things so much easier later.
It felt like that to me too, but it is doubtful our judgment is better than Maru’s.
My thoughts too, but Maru probably didn't realize by that point how fucked Zest's economy was. Maybe he thought he still had some bank left.
@@NMvapa I think he did realize that, and so knew Zest didn't have the economy to rebuild his army. That's why he was casual about losing his main. He wanted to make sure he wasn't baited into taking a bad fight that he might lose. He knew he just needed to defeat the army to win the game so patiently waited to take the right fight at the right time. Masterful stuff.

Yes, you could do that. You might even get some if it's an outer base. In those type of games you should also mine only with mules in outer bases.

I’m not a huge fan of tempest but I felt they were necessary for this siege
I feel like Zest either forgot about the templar in the prism or he was trying way too hard to surprise Maru with them and just ended up not using them until it was too late
Cant remember the difference between stalker jumps. There was Blink, Blonk and something else. Would appreciate someone would enlighten me with those

If players at the very top level are devoting a thousand apm to stopping widow mine drops and still losing 10 probes each time while the terran simply presses 2 buttons, the unit is poorly designed. There are so many easy ways to nerf widow mine drops while keeping the unit viable.
In the second game, Maru only got 10+ probe kills twice. One was while Zest was also dealing with a fight. And Maru was still behind in workers for most of the game.
In the third game, you can also see the more common results of mine drops. Does a whimper and isn't worth the cost.
I strongly disagree with you Falco. I've seen too many mines get killed before going off when already buried. I've seen too many mines get a paltry 1-2 kills without intentional split by opposing player, instead of hitting large mass of units nearby. I've also seen too many mines be killed without going off at all, even though it's targeting system was engaged.
@@jonathansaxton9954 More or less this. It's just that sadly, people on the recieving end tend to only remember the 1 in 100 times when the mines actually do crippling damage.

@@oldoddjobs Below GM a lot of things end games abruptly; Usually stemming from panic. So it's not exactly that great of a measuring stick. (Not that GM games are all that great either, but that's besides the point)

In game 3, was there a reason to not pull Tempests? Are they just too slow against the Viking fleet? Way I see it, their range would have been a boon against range Liberators. Thought?

zest threw a bit too many fucks out the window that last game, though his stats were boosted temporarily, his decision-making was hampered significantly and he lost way too much army without the capability to replace it
