    I was born in the 50s. I don't remember fitness centers. We used to do activities to maintain our home and gardens and that was our "exercise".

      The appeal of fitness centers is the pool/sauna which most folks don't have at home, and maybe the instructional classes to do with other people around/socializing.

      A friend told me her new year resolution was to join a gym. I told her 'ive got a spare bike you can borrow so why not use it to cycle up Hinksey Hill (a steep country hilly road) a few times a day' No membership required, fresh air and no athletes foot. Needless to say she declined and bought a gym membership, used for a few times and now sitting watching TV eating chocolate.

    I listen to your series everyday religiously while working. It's just radiates a lot of positivity and at the same time allow me to get some inspiration in life. I have stopped a lot of unnecessary buying and now only focus on buying books. Donated half of my clothes and books too. Keep motivating us! I enjoy your channel very much and re-watch some of your videos too.

    I'm on Spring Break and recently started listening to these podcasts. Thank you so much! I had my monthly donation pick up this week, so I actually upped my game, by going through more things that are just cluttering my home and my life. My kids and grandkids are coming over today to celebrate my birthday which was yesterday, so I know there will be more "stuff" (gifts) brought into my house. lol. The real gift to me is having them all here together and spending time with them.

    You guys are a true blessing to all. After listening to y'all's podcast, I now have faith to finally write that novel I've always wanted, my husband and I have decluttered not only our physical things, but our mental clutter as well, (that last part is a continuous work in progress but a good one.😃), and every month I learn something new and valuable I can share with the people around me. You two and y'all's team help more people more than y'all will ever know. God bless you all. 🙏🥰👍

    Trick: take your salary after taxes, divide it by number of hours you have to work to get it. Next time you have an impulse buy doubt, think how many hours working at your job you do in order to buy it. Many times you will think "this is not worth all that pain".

    Listened to this during my workout this morning. I really enjoyed the transmission anagloy. Too often I shame myself for surprise purchases, when I know it's not my fault and I couldn't prevent them. Distinguisghing between surprises and impulse is beginning the reframing of my mind. Thank you guys!

    I bought the Alexa microwave for my disabled loved one after they set the old one on fire TWICE because they couldn't see well enough and accidentally set it to 90 minutes. the best part is that when I hear the microwave going now, I can ask Alexa in my room how long left, and can remotely disable it if it seems too long (it still had a manual keypad)

    I feel like the surprise purchases are not really a surprise. If you own a car it will need repairs. Your home too. You will have medical expenses. We should all be saving for these so they are more of just an eventuality.

    I got an online ad, a print ad, a video ad for the "limited edition" batman x police watch (i am a HUGE batman fan). It's around INR 16-35k ($200-400). I went to the payment page since I can afford it.
    But something inside me told me to wait. It's a watch. It'll tell time. I have a perfectly fine fitness tracker and a bunch of watches I don't wear. I asked myself to wait until a month or two. I woke up to see this episode.
    I guess great minds think alike haha! Thanks for the episode, you guys! :)

    I went on Apple podcast gave my five star review and read a few one star reviews with such Snark and sarcasm. Ugggg. I mean …come on people these two guys are trying to help people right? They’re not saying that their opinions are law. They inspire, explore humanity, they question morals, they dig deeper into why we do what we do - that make you look inward at yourself maybe these one star people should look a little deeper

    I can promise you guys no woman in the ‘50s thought how lazy are we that we can’t hand wash our clothes. The men that had someone else washing his clothes might have thought that. I’m saying some men didn’t think their wives needed an expensive washing machine. But those husbands weren’t doing the hard job of a family washload.

    When my father-in law bought my husband a beer keg it devastated me. My husband and his twin were drinking like its an endless fountain competing who drinks most of it. They refill that thing like 4x/3x in 2 weeks. I was stunned on the $600 or more a month. It ruined my marriage.

    Another good use for VR I think would be letting people travel in space. Just getting a cool view of flying through galaxies at impossible speeds or something like that. Maybe simulate flying by the sun. I dunno why they thought a trip to Walmart was gonna be the big selling point

    I did background work in L.A. for a while and I was in "The Shield" a couple of times--both times on location, once at a fake shooting (think "panicked crowd"), and another time at a convenience store. Feet from Michael Chiklis, but the number one rule in Hollywood is that the extras don't bother the actors. EVER. One guy who tried to get chummy with Jim Carrey at Ontario Airport ("Yes Man") was all but carried out the door by security, had his voucher taken away, and got kicked out of Central Casting.

    • @zambranaml
      @zambranaml 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@michellecd4722 It's actually very simple: the stars get the big money to focus on their characters and their scenes. They are the focus. Background people are one step up from being props, in most cases--we get paid to shut up and do what we're told and "acting" seldom comes into the picture.

    • @zambranaml
      @zambranaml 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@michellecd4722 It's more nepotism than elitism in the acting industry. And there's no way around it without there being penalties for that--or, to put it in street talk, without "The Man goin' after what you've got and messin' that up" (like the situation Mr. Ex-Central Casting faced). I've got my own example on the writing front, as I wanted to get into screenwriting and, at one point, thought I'd found the perfect opening: someone looking to make a movie about a very specific topic that I had insider information on... let's just sum that mistake up quick, and say that it didn't work out, hmm? Anyway, there are penalties to not knowing your "place" sometimes.

    RYAN! You can fix the one click purchasing I think by removing all your payment methods. Then just add it back when your subscriptions are due to renew. Sometimes you have to fight convenience with friction on the offensive. (When they don't make defensive possible, you must go on offense.) THEN, the next time, if it offers you to turn one click purchase on again, DON'T!!

      That is true. I work at a discount clothing/accessories store and there's a lot of "fake on sale" products. Although the really on sale products have been there for about 6-18 months and they go into a final price before being sent out to an even more discounted liquidation type store.

    Minute 16 - "improving our lives" isn't necessarily better. What if we lose the friction of what it means to be human? - That's deep. Minute 27- approaching conflict with compassion = "with suffering". Need to understand other person's pain points.
