    It's so nice to watch a playthrough where someone is focused on the game, and it isn't just an upload of a twitch playthrough where someone is constantly saying "Hey gamer2100, thanks for the twelve months!" while they miss important things in the game! I love this game, and once you've finished it, the DLC expansion is also amazing in its own way and really expands the story. I'm looking forward to watching you discover the mysteries! My only humble request is that in your commentary you try to be cautious about giving spoilers for other games, that not everyone has played!

      Thank you! Yeah, I'm not really a fan of watching playthroughs on twitch for that very reason, I find streamers are often focused more on chat and donations rather than the game itself, and it's quite distracting.
      I might drop a few references there and there but I will try my best not to mention any spoilers for other games! thank you for watching and I hope you enjoy the rest of the playthrough!

    Something I realized in your playthrough that I had not seen before in any other playthrough including mine, is that dialogue with the statue guy that tells you that a broken nomai statue was repurposed to build your ship computer, and he tells you that maybe the nomai statues are some sort of information storage.
    All this time thinking that your ship log stays intact after the loop was just because for the sake of the gameplay, but they actually have included a reason.

    1:27:55 It's kind of hidden, but there actually is an in-game justification for the ship log being in the time loop.
    (mild-ish spoiler for those who haven't played the game)
    There's a branch of conversation you can go down with Hal where he'll tell you that the stone the Nomai Statue is made out of can be used to store immense amounts of information, and the Hearthians used a sample of the statue to serve as the ship's memory bank

    33:10 Sometimes the lock on gets funky after tabbing out of the game, so if your lock on stops working for some reason, try tabbing/clicking back in the game window!

    One of the absolute best games out there.
    It's one of the only games that truly show us what games are capable of - beyond just cool scenes and views, this game uses the fact that it's an interactive medium to it's fullest extent.
    Sure, you can appreciate it by watching it, but you'd be missing the point. It's the fact YOU are discovering these things, YOU are making the decisions, YOU are having the 'Eureka!' moments - the game hands you the wheel, and basically lets you finish it in the first 20 minutes of play. If you wanted to, you could look up the solution for everything and the credits will be rolling before you know it.
    But... It's what differentiates videogames from other media.
    This game puts these controls in your hands - YOU are the main character, and YOUR knowledge, as the player, is what gets you to the next point in the story. YOU are the one in control. No obstacles that limit you except your knowledge.

    • @LukaelPlays
      @LukaelPlays  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Absolutely agree! I think the best games are those that provide an experience that you couldn't get with any other media and fully use their nature as an interactive medium. They're the ones that end up being very highly recommended, and this one certainly was! Excited to see how it plays out, I'll be sure to be very thorough! thank you for your comment!

    • @meridiasbeacon7669
      @meridiasbeacon7669 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dezm0n679 happy to resonate with you ::)
      I think the irony is, if someone didn't know anything about this game, they might mistakenly call it a 'walking simulator', I mean... you don't shoot stuff, the puzzles aren't obvious in their puzzle-ness (compared to a game like The Witness or Portal, where every puzzle is self-contained, has obvious boundaries and elements. OW's puzzles are more about understanding the lore, hints and story, and coming to your own conclusions. Honestly, in practice, most of the solutions come for straight-up reading), platforming is abstract, mainly existing as a 'some places require some maneuvering', but this isn't Celeste or something...
      What I'm saying is, this game is the most interactive videogame I've ever played but not because clicking left click shoots a gun that kills an enemy, but because this game FORCES you to interface with it on a level FAR deeper than any other game did for me - it forced me to think about the story and mystery. While a game like Portal (I LOVE Portal, no dissing here!) Doesn't need you to interface in any way beyond logical thinking - laser activates funnel, funnel brings cube to button, button opens door, I go to next level. In Outer Wilds I was 100% in-the-game, I actually set up a whiteboard with my theories as I was playing, as it helped me keep track of everything that was happening in the grand picture (the ship log is fantastic, but I needed to draw the bigger picture myself to truly understand it personally), I wasn't noticing I was so immersed until AFTER my playthrough, when I realized I MADE A WHITEBOARD FOR THIS GAME, something I've never done for... any media before. and then I REALLY went 'woah what did I just play through'.
      It's a very clever design choice, to have the game rely on your out-of-game brain's own reasoning rather than a set of logical static mechanics. I would give an example but it'd be a spoiler.
      Ironically, less in-game interaction is the only way to do it in my opinion.
      The only other game like Outer Wilds I can think of is The Painscreek Killings, and this game is 100% an investigation game with no interaction - you walk around, no little scout, no jetpack, no dying or time limit or anything.. just a murder mystery in an abandoned town. The difference between this and portal? An AI can beat portal, as every puzzle element has a clear purpose, like a mathematical equation. Outer Wilds and Painscreek are more like... a philosophical question. Only a human can truly answer one of those, because you need to interpret information in more than just a purely logical way to answer that.

    • @dezm0n679
      @dezm0n679 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@meridiasbeacon7669 Another good OuterWilds-like game in my opinion is Antichamber, still on of my favourites. Also Subnautica have a bit simular feeling to it but less mystery, more crafting/survival. But for the moment i finished OuterWilds i knew - it's my new all-time favourite game, probably for a very long time ::)
      Definitely going to check Painscreek killings now

    • @meridiasbeacon7669
      @meridiasbeacon7669 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dezm0n679 ah, yea I played Antichamber a while back and it was really good, and I love Subnautica, but I think the fact it has progression makes it have a very different design from Outer Wilds, but it does have that element of discovering the world and it's rules on your own
      I will warn about Painscreek Killings however - it is not easy at all! Ready up a whiteboard, that game has no ship log, and has a hundred times the amount of reading Outer Wilds has!
      Also unlike Outer Wilds, Painscreek attempts to feel like a real life murder mystery. What I mean is - most information you read is hidden along lines and lines of flavor text - an ad for a local bar could contain the answer for a puzzle, while a breakup letter behind someone's wardrobe could hint about local buzz before the killings..
      Also, like Outer Wilds, it is not a horror game, but it is CREEPY, and it may or may not also include some paranormal themes at play...

    This is a wonderful playthrough of Outer Wilds (and the DLC), and I highly recommend it to anyone window shopping for a new OW playthrough (like I originally was).
    Lukael was very successfully inquisitive (picking up on even the subtle lore bits pretty consistently), the editing is great, he dodged all the spoilers that could have meaningfully impacted the run (it really helps to not have a live chat itching to guide the player), and he had (in my opinion) great luck in the order he chose to pursue topics (avoiding certain scenarios that could've undercut some of the reveals while remaining blind).
    As an Outer Wilds Playthrough Nomad, this is one of my favorites.

    The only one who is an observer as opposed to participant when it comes to gravity is someone falling, as falling is just gravity pulling on someone, and we're constantly being pulled towards everything in the observable universe, even if moreso from our immidiate surroundings. Either way, it saying "0 Gs" whilst not directly on the ground is accurate.

    The way you'r wondering what is so specific about the moment you wake up and why the purple light is taking of at that exact time is oddly the sexiest thing I've ever seen a man do

    "...and I'm already terrified". Already looking forward to the, ehh, future... 🤣
    So yeah, like the style. Subbed for the main game and the DLC. Maybe Death Stranding on the event horizon?
    Check out YongYea's spoiler free review of it as it's kinda slow paced (especially during the tutorial area/10 hours), philosophical, deep, and not for everybody.

    Your field of view setting is lower than normal, which makes you (and us) lose so much vision. Mind setting it to the default value? (70 or 75)

    • @LukaelPlays
      @LukaelPlays  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I remember the default setting had a bit of fisheye effect to it which felt a bit weird to me, but I'll try and readjust it next time!

      @@LukaelPlays You sure the fish eye effect wasn't just because of the tiny planets? xD

    55:58 And thus the Ludonarrative dissonance is born.
    I mean, later in this video (I'm assuming) the statue gets activated, but it's a 22 minute cycle, and you're starting back when you wake up. Could potentially have been fixed if you'd been told "I''ll let you know when the codes are ready", and then you're told them when you're by the fire. (Like an episode of Stargate SG-1 when the Colonel is eating Fruit Loops when a time loop is starting.) This game has you "wake up" at the start of each loop, which is more than twice the time up to just this point.
    {That being said, I tried to avoid typos, but due to RL events I am making friends with Fireball Cinnamon Whisky at the moment. I will resume sometime tomorrow. **salutes** Tried to ensure no typos. Sorry if I missed some.}

      56:48 Wait... You didn't recall the statue!?
      I mean, I got an idea of what the BIG thing you'd likely recalled was, but the status is linked in with that.

    Weird take on the MC being an asshole. It’s basic banter. Probably a second language misunderstanding.
