    Great video. It looked liked very little oil came out of the engine but quite a bit went back in. I thought that seem strange. Appreciate the detailed instructions. Cheers

    My small engine mechanic said do not use modern automotive oil in air cooled motors. They have no ZDDP (Zinc) in the oil. Use only small engine oil or I use a high zinc racing oil. Brad Penn grade 1 10w-30

      Hey Super, looking to buy a Honda Trimmer. VersAttach looks great do you recommend it and is it built well??

    • @SuperPussyFinger
      @SuperPussyFinger 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@karl2051 - Thanks for trusting my opinion on the matter, Karl. By and large, Honda is almost always a no-brainer. It’s hard to ignore the legendary reliability and estimable branch cachet that Honda brings to the party. In all fairness, however, my honest advice is to take a pass on the VersAttach system. Here’s why: I love the beautiful 4-stroke Honda engine (it purrs like a sewing machine), but I don’t love the attachments. The edger, for example, frequently clogs with mud, because the fender guard wraps over both sides of the blade. (Stihl, has an open guard design, and I never noticed the difference until I struggled with the incessant clogging of my Honda counterpart.) The blower attachment looks really cool, but underperforms as a consequence of its unconventional design. My experience with the entire system leads me to suspect that Honda developed VersAttach in response to the market, but really never committed to improving or expanding it. They just kind of launchd the lineup and seemingly forgot about it. I’ve been a little underwhelmed by the experience of investing in the ecosystem. As you know, it’s premium gear at a premium price, but I think you may be happier with a workhorse system such as Stihl. In fact, the Honda build quality is good, but I wouldn’t call it extraordinary. Admittedly, the Honda branding impresses the neighbors, but that doesn’t get you too far.

    • @SuperPussyFinger
      @SuperPussyFinger 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@karl2051 - On balance, though, Hondas are appreciated most by their diehard longevity over many years. I anticipate that I’ll be using my system for the long haul. Hopefully, the attachments will hold up as well as the power head will, even though they will inevitably continue to frustrate me to no end.

      @SuperPussyFinger 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @SuperPussyFinger 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@karl2051 - Glad you took the plunge and got what you needed, Karl. I’ll be interested in seeing what you think. Bottom line, it’s a Honda system, and it’s hard to find fault with that. Enjoy it in good health.

    How many hours between oil changes?

    hey whats your thought on this machine? im looking at one now on ebay for gx35 Honda 36cc its $369aud, is it worth it? does it go good? i live on a decent sized farm and would be using it a fair bit to keep the garden clean. would really appreciate a reply thanks!

    • @ErikAsquith
      @ErikAsquith  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's a great power head. The reason I love the Honda is the low noise level, no mixing of oil, and no oil smell from the exhaust. However, the powerhead is a bit heavier when compared to the Stihl and Echo equivalents, since they are both 2 cycle engines and do not included the added weight of an oil sump. Assuming Honda offers all the attachments you need, I would go with the Honda. Personally I prefer the selection of attachment options available with the Stihl KombiSystem (for example the Bed Redefiner).

      I've had the GX35 (35.8cc) for about 5 years. Honda 4 stroke engine, I like not
      having to premix gas/oil and it's a little quieter. I weed wack about
      6000 SF FT of brush a few times a year.
      Down side, it's heavier than a 2 stroke because it's a 4 stroke engine which has additional parts like valves, valves springs, cam, cam chain, cam chain gears and the head.
      It's about 2-5 lbs heavier than a trimmer w/ a 2 stroke engine.
      Also 2 stroke engines have more torque, so in thick brush (green brush
      is heavier than dry dead brush), the GX35 will bog down. You'll have to learn how to move/sweep the trimmer slower so you won't stall the engine while keeping the throttle pinned.
      I prefer using a nylon .130" trim line, diamond shape.

    • @bafto6
      @bafto6 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Doctor Shred cool! The heaviness won't bother me at all, the machine sounds amazing, little worried about it not being powerful enough but I'm mostly gonna use it cleaning around the garden so it should be good enough, I love the fact I won't need to mix oil, I have purchased the one on eBay and it comes in next week, only thing what fuel do you guys use, I've read that it recommends 95 but other sites have said anything over 91

    why does the oil sump fill up with gasoline?

    • @ErikAsquith
      @ErikAsquith  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The oil sump should not fill up with gasoline, it's a separate tank. The gasoline should only reside in the plastic tank. Are asking because you are seeing gasoline in your oil sump? If you are, then your carburetor float may be stuck open and allowing fuel to flow into the engine when not running. If the float is not stuck open, then it's possible your piston cylinder rings and/or walls may be worn out and allowing gas to mix with the oil.

      Oil looked a bit full in this video - appeared halfway up the threads to me, not at the edge of the bottom thread. By the diagram on the side of the engine, half the dipstick should be submerged. Otherwise what would be the point of a dipstick? Might as well just have a plug.
