Money is the reason why those anglers are still able to catch fish with a spotlight. Someone or a whoever runs the show is cashing in from the electronic companies. I'm an outsider, and I can clearly see this. It blows my mind that tournament fisherman are allowed to use a device that shows them where the fish are. That's a joke

Most don't allow any sort of "live imaging" in the form or drones, video camera's etc. Fishing needs to do the same.
The consequences of using drones for hunting has a much bigger impact on wildlife than using ffs for fishing. Fish populations aren't even struggling from the use of FFS, it's been studied. There's also 5 states that still allow drone hunting, not that I agree with it though. Both are completely different.

Most of the fish Trey Mckinney caught when he won, were hooked just anywhere, the fish gets close and they start jerking like crazy, Will Davis is another one, he jerks that bait so hard, he's snags 80 percent of his fish, it's Cheating and should be Banned

I made this post on Todd Castledine’s channel. I own a technical poling skiff as well as a bass boat. Two glorious weeks of the year i go to Fl. and fish for reds and specs. Todd promotes his prowess on sight fishing. I made the comment about sight fishing for redfish. They are way different than sight fishing for spawning bass. But my point is if you cannot see the fish more than likely they can see you. Bedfish see you but they are also preoccupied with mating. Redfish are just sunning and cast, drop, plop and they are gone if you do it wrong. The FFS fish cant see you. To me thats a huge difference. It has taken me 15 seasons to finally understand what not to do around a redfish. That is why I agree with you Randy.

I've yet to hear a proponent's advocacy for FFS that i agree with. Their reasoning behind using it directly uses examples of why i think it should be disallowed. There's just no fundamental common ground i can get behind.

Finally a FISH FINDER that actually works. And no body wants it cause now the catching rate is going up for other anglers and no one can stand it. Its not spotlighting because they don't shoot the fish, the Angler must display Angling Excellence to catch these fish, maybe even moreso than with the smaller onshore fish. Maybe we should start up a go fun me for Randy, so he can get some of those Ben Milliken Baits and start catching some BIG FISH

I do not even have a depth finder on my boat, so that is where I am at....and I think fish finders are a useful tool UNTIL you can actually WATCH THE FISH EAT YOUR BAIT.....it is a camera....even with old flashers there was a ton of skill involved in learning to read one... but with FFS....fool proof.....in my estimation technology should ENHANCE AN EXISTING SKILL NOT REPLACE IT. FFS replaces many of the skills which actually make a fisherman an actual fisherman....I am also against catching bass off the beds as well, since they are immediately relocated via a live well .....
We all know its all about the money. I going non-boater for a while all my expenses paid...and snacks of my choice..lol.
When the guy up front is head down watching fish tv gives me time to catch up on my reading. I suggest non-boaters think about this or just opt out until ffs is banned..hell , youll have more fun bank fishin 😂

I also think harassin the bass in the nest& foul hooking it is b.s. - i pitch a few baits i like to use at the pale spots- fish either eats it or dont'- so much pressure in the lake my next tourney's at that most of the bass are conditioned to not strike or pick up anything placed into their nest. So im sure there are guys that snag em'. No bass foul hooked is allowed in my club tournies at a $35 entry fee. To me; I'd argue them young guys are snagging these bass to cash a check the way we snag bunker up here for striped bass& bluefish bait. Me, if I win anything at least I know its real. I didn't have to pull any sketchy crap to make it happen. I am unpaired, so have to monitor myself- and I know that my boat marshall will be honest& fair this saturday. Just hope to get out; get some good bass; and have a good time. If i win any bucks- it's a bonus.

While I realize that this information is based around the Bass fishing tournament scene, the fact that how FFS effects panfish populations in public waters by weekend warriors using the same
technology is all but ignored . This technology has dire consequences for the majority of the general public in the long term. I do appreciate the fact that you use your position in the Bass Masters to raise awareness of this technology it's important to NOT lose
sight of its effects on ALL fish populations and not just those caught in a tournament setting.

BASS gets a LOT of sponsor money from Garmin and Lowrance, and Im sure MLF does too. Its purely motivated by the bottom line. Right now, there is a huge opportunity for a new bass tournament trail/organization that gets back to basics, where the anglers skills and understanding of the habits of bass are what wins tournaments. Not how good they are with Nintendo, or whatever the kids are destroying their brains with these days.

I completely agree it should be 100% banned but doubt it ever will be just BC of the money that is in the electronic business. But, why can’t they meet us 1/2 way. 1/2 the tournament fished allowing fwd facing sonar and the other 1/2 is without it. Or one tournament with it then the next without it. That would at least “level” the playing field for anglers that don’t use it. Just a thought.
I watched the same Bilge Podcast. A shout out to Chris & Trait Zaldain and also to Bill Lowen. Best one I’ve seen so far from anyone. No offense Randy. But one of the “rookies” made a video and said they should have them on their podcast to basically defend themselves. Because they put the word “rookies”, he said in one class. I would have one question for all rookies….Do you use FFS, yes or no. Plain and simple no excuses needed. They haven’t paid their dues. Take away FFS and let’s see how they all do.
I agree with foul hooking on FFS. Bassmaster allows it. That’s how a lot of them have won tournaments and placed in the top 5. Bassmaster needs to ask theirselves, has there ever been 10 century belts given out at a single tournament, EVER in the history of Bassmaster?

If anyone saw Hank Parker’s video clearing up what he had said about FFS because he was getting so much bad and praise mail. He said he didn’t think it should be allowed in tournaments because he had watched the Bilge Podcast on several occasions and when he said he heard so many anglers say “I have to use it”. He said no one should have to use FFS to be competitive. But that’s what it’s come to. It should be banned in ALL tournaments to make it an even playing field. No other sport gives certain people an advantage over others. Bass fishing should be no different. KEEP UP THE GOOD FIGHT RANDY. IM WITH YA!!!!

The big tournaments like B.A.S.S.+ M.L.F.- could be fine in practice; but level the field& make it more interesting maki g these guys interpret downview& sidescan screens while in the actual top-level events. The real hammers will still bring in hawgs'-and we'll know who the best of the best truly is.

Please lord ban ffs 🤬. If you don’t have the $$ for it it literally is impossible to compete. I’m used to winning, and finishing in the top 3 a lot of the tournaments I fish but this was 3 years ago. Now I’m fishing against the same men and can’t get in the top 15 period. That is because most of them are trust fund baby’s, or pretty successful business owners and can afford it when I personally know myself, and a lot of guys I know are much better fishermen. I also quit watching bassmaster tournaments on tv because it’s just straight boring to watch these kids stare at there screens all day long🤦🏻♂️. I quit fishing tournaments because it’s not possible to compete without it and it’s destroying our loved sport PERIOD!!!!! Call me a crybaby if you want but it’s just facts.

I used to watch MFL and loved the original format. Now, the TV tournaments are just info commercials for the same old sponsors. Time better spent on water.
If you want to make it where a fish foul hooked with forward facing sonar, then you should make it where any foul hooked bass when you jerk baiting or crank baiting is a not weighable fish. Because I don't care how good you are with ffs, it's virtually impossible to intentionally snag a fish with ffs. It's no different than in standard jerk bait fishing or crankbait fishing that when a fish slashes at a bait, it sometimes gets foul hooked. Plus you have no way of knowing that it was originally hooked in the mouth, the mouth hook came loose. Plus my standpoint is if your going to ban ffs because you can "see" the fish, then you need to ban bed fishing as well. Because you can see the fish, doesn't mean you can catch it. Also at any given tournament, almost 95% of the boats have ffs, yet only a handful are consistently in the top 10. If it was that easy, the top 10 would rotate between all the anglers.
I don't think ffs is more effective than live bait. If someone were allowed to use live shiners for example and no one else was, that person would dominate.
Randy, with crankbaits and treble hooks it is common to get fish hooked in the side outside of the mouth when they swipe at it or spit the one treble that originally was in their mouth. You are trying to spin it into anglers snagging them. In fact, I would challenge you to try and snag a fish with FF sonar. It would be easier to just try and get them to bite the lure.

I'd like to see the roster of fishermen in both the Elites and Bass Pro Tour to vote on whether or not FFS should be allowed. Get them on record. And then do what the majority wants. If one side becomes incensed with the other then let's hope these tours just go away and all you "Pros" can go back to fishing your monthly local club tournaments. Tell those young guns they can't make a living at fishing so go and do something else like nursing school. And remember when Trey McKinney turns 33 in fifteen years, a lot of you dudes will be in a home. On a side note, nobody should be allowed to weigh in a foul hooked fish. I really can’t understand why anyone wants to watch B.A.S.S. tournaments anymore. These aren’t professional anglers anymore. This isn’t a professional sport any longer. Nothing to be learned by what is perceived to be less experienced anglers. This isn’t even fishing anymore. It’s something else that can’t classify itself as being respected in any way. If it’s the death of the sport in tournaments, then I believe they had it coming. Greed and short term gains is the corporate way.
Dang wrote a novella on FFS lol:
1) As long as everyone has to play by the same rules (being enforced equally)...don't hate the player.
2) IMHO it's more of a case of "old timers" unwilling or unable to adapt to FFS than it is "rookies" who "need" it.
3) Any argument made about FFS being "spotlighting" or its ability to ruin a fishery can also be made regarding any type of sonar...go ask Buck Perry.
4) In reference to #3, anecdotally at least, since the 70's sonar and other technologies have diminished every population of fish and made them harder to catch.
5) In reference to #5, it stands to reason that FFS will accelerate the decline of fish populations or, at the very least, make them harder to catch.
6) Recreational anglers using FFS will probably be more detrimental to fish populations than tournament organizations.
7) Technology will march on until companies realize it affects their profits - - Ding, ding, ding.
8) It's easy to make an argument and I would suggest that TH-camrs sharing decades of experience is more destructive to bass populations than any sonar. The learning curve can now be measured in days as opposed to years.
9) FFS and other sonar technologies just plain diminish the "getting grounded in nature" aspect of fishing...and take away from the "spectator" experience which will probably cause a decline in the interest of the sport.
And some Final Thoughts: Bass fishing and other Boomer activities have exploded since 1971 when we went off of the gold standard. Automation and AI will continue taking jobs as MMS is proving FIAT is a global failed experiment. We are no longer in a position to kick the fiscal can down the road and Boomers will be the last generation to benefit from all of this "free wealth". When gas hits $5, $10, $20 a gallon and everything is inflated higher does anyone really believe $100K bass rigs with $40K electronics towed by $70K trucks will be a normal thing? IMHO the pendulum has swung too far and we will probably see more kayaks, 9.9s and bank fishing in the future. Whether or not there will be "professional anglers" in the future is questionable as far as I'm concerned...it's never been a very good gig.
Every player in every sport pushes the envelope, they are trying to win. You either want to win or be a loser. Tom Brady deflated footballs. In basketball they dont call travelling anymore. Football holding is not called on every play. Every sport now betting is live and legal. FFS is so mild compared to what you call cheating in other sports.
Other sports don't kill defenseless animals for bragging rights and money. And don't say hunting because as far as I know. Competition hunting doesn't exist as a professional sport. It is survival
