    Haha you guys were abit savage :) Your guest could've needed some social care here and there ^^ you two mostly remained silent alot during his explaination, but i know when you explain something you care alot about to strangers, it's ALOT easier when they make you feel comfortable with small talk and such :) The master bowyer really knows his subject, and he was stressed because it's a life activity for him.
    Sorry if i'am abit straight on point in my comment, but im sure the behind the scenes were alot more about making him feel nice than it looks^^ and im also french so it explains my shit attitude ahah
    and Jack's son climbing over the roundhouse was just the best thing to catch on camera ! ;)
    looking forward for the next video! please don't ban me for my comments XD big love you guys are top!

    A shave horse and a draw knife makes the work much easier and many times faster. You guys should have a shave horse there on the site as that is old school technology and is useful for making table legs, chair legs, tool handles and a whole lot of other things. Shave horse.......google it.

    • @darthplagueis13
      @darthplagueis13 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, part of the challenge was not using any specialized tools.

    • @jackpinson9858
      @jackpinson9858 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or a shaving break: even more simplistic, but very useful for longer work pieces like longbows.

    • @aktrapper6126
      @aktrapper6126 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Someone once said: If I have four hours to cut down a tree I'll spend the first three sharpening the axe. A shave horse is a very old tool used in many civilizations. You could have built one easily in half the time you spent on the bow. I get it though, you want to build a bow with an axe and a knife. Enjoyed the video. I have built a number of self bows myself out of birch and build flat style bows. I now use a shave horse and it makes it so much easier and the finish produce better.

    the bowyer mentions at 23:21 if you want to make a quick hunting bow that would only last 2 weeks make a "bundle bow". What is a bundle bow? Later he says if you're going to use a draw knife make yourself a shaving break, what's a shaving break?

    • @frozenthunderbolt1
      @frozenthunderbolt1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      multiple small stems bound together. 2 the whole length, 2x 2/3 the full length, centred, and then a couple shorter to make the handle. Shaving break is the same a shaving horse - a bench to sit on that has a wooden vice/clamp opperated by the woodworkers foot.

    • @jackpinson9858
      @jackpinson9858 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A shaving break is a clamping device for longer work pieces (like a bow) made from three posts driven into the ground, two of which are joined by a couple of angled cross pieces. Better to see a picture really. Easy to make in the woods, though.

    You can add a small block of wood on the belly by the tips of the bow if the tips of the wood is to narrow and near the back of the bow you can add a 1/2 cm high and 1 cm wide block of wood witch you can shape like the tips
