I found the meter in my Electro 35 GTH to be excellent. There were so many made, there are still many very clean examples to be found on the various markets or in thrift stores. The last models made had the meter with the lens, making filters easier to use, but I've managed to adjust the ASA to correspond reasonable well with Portra 400 .

Although I have and use often a GSN, these videos of yours are always very interesting and not just for those who need to learn from the very beginning. Being an automatic aperture priority camera, we can easily decide the speed we want, almost as in a speed priority, knowing that red light means it has reached the 1/500 speed limit, and the yellow light that has reached 1/30. Counting the aperture ring clicks, we can determine at what speed the camera will fire. Greetings David
Nice video, David! That aluminium foil tip on the battery is very useful, it's often a problem with the cameras that were made for mercury batteries. Also the tip on 100 iso or lower film, I often see folks load 400 iso film into an old camera, and then complain about the shutter speed. I have purchased a used Yashica Electro 35 GSN camera and am just learning how to use it. Is an Energizer A544 battery with adaptor ok? The battery check button lights the little green light but I can not get the camera to flash.
Good question. I had to look up the answer and yes, it will work well. For the flash, are you setting the camera to the flash sync aperture settings? I don't think it fires in automatic.
What is your work-around for using a yellow filter considering the filter is over the lens, not the meter, and shutter speed can’t be adjusted? Thanks!
Good question. You'll need the filter factor and then lower the ISO but that figure. So of the filter factor is 1, then drop the ISO a stop. If the factor isn't stated, 1 to 1.5 stops will work well depending on how dark the glass is and the specific film's spectral sensitivity.
Thanks! The shutter button of my YASHICA GSN has been down for years. Is it possible for the button to return to its previous state if I put a battery in it?
The shutter button is purely mechanical. No promises that will work, as I haven't run into this before. The Fix Old Cameras channel might have ideas, too.
I'd run that past the Fix Old Cameras channel or the repair forum at Photrio. I don't know how to fix that but it's likely a loose wire that needs to be re-soldered.
Thank you and no. You need more voltage than a CR2 provides. The camera needs 5.6 volts to operate the meter properly. The 6-volt PX28 is close enough to provide proper exposures. A 3-volt CR2 or CR123 will not provide a proper meter reading and may not have the voltage needed to operate the camera.
Possibly and it's hard to know without seeing it in person. It could be a jammed mechanism, which would be bad, or it could be a simple issue of dirt sticking in the ring. For the latter, use cotton swabs saturated in 91& isopropyl alcohol and rung them over and over around the ring to try and get the alcohol into the ring through capillary action. If the issue is dirt, then the alcohol should loosen it enough (after a handful of applications right after each other) to allow the ring to turn.
I have loaded my film (Kodak gold 200 - 36exp) in my camera (my first analog one) and as you mentioned in the video: advance until you get to frame number one. But I’ve taken already 6 pictures and it started counting from 18 up until 23, does this mean I have to keep advancing until it’s back at 1? Or am I already shooting on my film? Greetings from Belgium!
Hi and good question. Something is amiss with your frame counter. Shoot through this roll until you get to resistance when you advance (and then stop advancing.) Try to keep track of your frames so you know when to expect that. Rewind and process normally. I'd suggest getting an old expired roll of film and loading and advancing that to see what's going on with the frame counter. An expired roll you can open the back on and rewind and practice with a bunch of times and then throw out (and recycle the metal cassette!) and that will give you the data needed to figure out what's up with the counter.

Is is normal for the shutter to hardly move without the batteries i have one that doesn’t have it’s batteries but when i shoot the shutter hardly moves while in this video while demonstrating i can see the shutter fully opening and light coming through even without the batteries so is mine stuck?
Well, there are a lot of things that could be at issue and it's impossible to know what they are without knowing what the camera is or is not doing. The best suggestion I would have is to find a Yashica or Rangefinder repairperson online, reach out to them to describe what's wrong with the camera, and see if it's repairable. Odds are this will need a professional repair as they're highly complex.
I just picked up a Yashica from the used market, I'm quite new to film cameras so apologies in advance if this is a stupid question. My camera seems to sometimes have both of the light indicators turn on at the same time, can someone tell me what that might mean?, i did my fair share of research but i cant find anything on this subject. After using the camera i think the problem with mine was just that the light from the bulb just leaks and thats the main reason to why "two lights" shows up, there werent any actual functional issues.

Кому это интересно, пусть почитают эту литературу. say Im using delta 3200 on this camera and I shoot it at 1000 iso. should I then develop the film at 1000 or 3200? Thank you for the video by theway.
I'd recommend checking out my All About Film video on Delta 3200. That video ought to answer that question.
Is is normal for the shutter to hardly move without the batteries i have one that doesn’t have it’s batteries but when i shoot the shutter hardly moves while in this video while demonstrating i can see the shutter fully opening and light coming through even without the batteries so is mine stuck?
Hard to say for sure. Have you tried it with a battery? If yes, what happens?
Hi david,
I have this model of camera.
They still not working since 2 years
How i can repair this camera
Well, there are a lot of things that could be at issue and it's impossible to know what they are without knowing what the camera is or is not doing. The best suggestion I would have is to find a Yashica or Rangefinder repairperson online, reach out to them to describe what's wrong with the camera, and see if it's repairable. Odds are this will need a professional repair as they're highly complex.
I just picked up a Yashica from the used
market, I'm quite new to film cameras so apologies in
advance if this is a stupid question. My camera seems to
sometimes have both of the light indicators turn on
at the same time, can someone tell me what that might
mean?, i did my fair share of research but i cant find
anything on this subject. Thank youu
I have no idea what's going on with that. I can't replicate it and the manual doesn't indicate why that would happen.)
Hey, my yashica mg1 also have the same problem, do you know anything about it now?
After using the camera i think the problem with mine was just that the light from the bulb just leaks and thats the main reason to why "two lights" shows up, there werent any actual functional issues.
I bought an Electro 35 GSN but, my model is a little bit different in a sense it only goes up to 500 ASA. Anybody know which model/generation is mine?
It might be a GS.
@@DavidHancock No the GS is also 1000 max ASA, I only know because I've been fixing one up its right here next to me.
Does this work without a battery?
Nope
Amazing review , thank you very much 😊👍
Thank you!
