It really was. She really did play some of her best tennis, and overall I think she was better than she was in the 2000's, but she had trouble mostly in the majors.
Who knew back then that it'd be the last time Serena ever played Charleston! Honestly I wish she played there upon returning to the tour in 2018 as well as playing in Stuttgart to get some needed match-rhythm and build her confidence by winning in the small tournament instead of directly entering the majors without any decent preparation which sadly worked against her.
