Point #2 - WOW!!! Never knew this!!!! EXCELLENT video!!!!! I have an OLD Rowenta and a newer Black & Decker. I only use the Rowenta on dry setting. I use the B&D on steam and have been annoyed the past couple days with the leaking! Maybe now I can fix the problem!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!

Thank you for a great video. Some of the points I already was doing, and some I learned...thank you again. I also notice that perhaps I use the steam nurse too often which as you explained does not leave enough time for the water to change states. With my iron though I stand up when not in use, perhaps to fold the item etc...after a bit of time..perhaps a few min or so...I notice water leaking from the bottom, then when I pick up the iron and turn it horizontal a gush of water...and continues. This happens both when I had just filled it...possibly caused by over filling, but also after using the iron for a bit. The other issue I have is that the button that you depress to create a burst of steam stays down (as if it were stuck) possibly related to temperature, Because it sometimes will pop back up after the iron cooled a bit...but not always...but sometimes it does not pop back up quite a bit after, regardless if I unplugged the iron, stopped ironing and left it...etc

Thank you. My iron is a Rowena DW5192UI. Your video was helpful. I am hoping my iron dries out! I over filled it by accident and it leaked out the cord area. I have emptied it and will let it dry out and hopefully it will be ok. It is fairly new. I think my instructions which I just read!😒 is supposed have the steam button turned off when filling and also laying fairly flat? Stored without water and upright. So 🤞hopefully one time overfilling has not ruined this great iron. I love it.

Are use an older Shark which doesn’t have a particular model name; The only inscription on iron is “X-Tended Steam Burst” and “Auto Shut-off”
Have always used distilled water only in this iron and still get brownish spotting from it.

Tks for the tips. Maybe I don’t have my new XL iron on the hotter setting for steam and might have filled too much in water. I like that it is very light weighted compared to my other irons, and that I can use corded or cordless. What I don’t like is that the water chamber area is kinda darker than I am use to and can’t so much tell how much water is in there. The dial marker is set in an area that is also hard for me to read also.

Thanks for this - it was very informative. I have a Rowenta Professional 1750w. I learned that my iron does have a clean cycle and am anxious to try it! Mine leaks when I stand it on its heel - and it might be that I'm overfilling. I'll clean it and try again to see if that fixes the problem. I only use distilled water. Is that a problem?

Just watched your video and the tips are great. I have the Rowenta Steamforce that you are using. It's less than a year old. I let it heat to cotton or linen when I use steam. I use tap water that is not hard. I don't overfill. But it almost always pours out water when I first tip it to iron after its been heated. It usually will stop after that but almost always does that to start. I now iron on a towel before I touch my fabric to get rid of that initial amount of water. Any others suggestions for this particular issue? Thanks!

I had to search for this because my brandnew Tefal FV9844 was leaking like a bottle with a hole - because I was handling it like someone with common sense would do: park it on its ass while getting the next shirt. Seems like Tefal doesn't want you to do that... 😜
But your explaination about the overfilling and temperature seems logical. Now I know what to keep an eye at - because the iron has some auto-shutdown modes and the leaking happens when it stops heating (with the switch set to "steam"). Also the steaming instantly stops when I park it on its back.
Anyhow, thanks for this very educational video! 😎

I bought the Rowenta DW9280 a little over a year ago and was impressed with it's build and performance. I don't use the Iron a lot, and did experience leaking from time to time as mentioned in this video. The leaking was usually after I turned the iron on & moved it from upright to a horizontal position. I assumed the cause was from water being left in it from the previous session. However just a short while ago the digital display went blank & it started making a buzzing noise when plugged in. The buzzing gets louder if I rotate the setting Dial towards Min. It's a pretty expensive Iron ($199 when not on sale). I hope they'll still offer me some type of coverage or I'll be going back to the cheaper irons.

In 2020, I purchased the DW9280. I absolutely loved it until one day turned on the power, and it wouldn't heat. Returned it. Bought a 2nd one, and it started leaking around the power cord when it was about 7 months old. Trashed it. In the interim, I purchased a Rowenta DW7180 Everlast, but it doesn't get hot enough. I'll use it as a dry iron only.
Love my gravity-fed iron. No more Rowentas.

I am a quilter... so I use my iron every day. Hottest temperature and always steam. I have used T-fal irons for years.. primarily because I like the shape of the tip and it works perfectly for ironing seams. However... every single T-fal iron I have owned... leaks within a year of purchase. I have discovered that it leaks from the opening where you fill it and the steam buttons directly below this opening. Even if the water chamber is filled less than 1/4 full... it still leaks. (It never leaks from the plate.) This is extremely frustrating. My mother has the same problem with her T-fal irons.

Hi there. I have a Rowenta Pro Iron Steam Station. I have had so much trouble with leaking with this iron. I had a similar one before for about 8 years and never had an issue until the end of its life and now I have a new model and it has leaked from the beginning. I even took it to a repair shop and they said there is nothing wrong with it!! So why is it always leaking.

  • @deniseelston6197

I went back to the iron after watching your video. I let iron warm up (little light goes out) set between cotton and linen with steam off. I turned the steam on two clicks and waited 30-45 seconds, then started to iron-no steam was coming out. I clicked one more steam setting. Now I was getting steam. Before I could finish one cotton knit top, the iron was again leaking. So my ironing for the day is three cotton knit turtleneck tops, all set aside to dry from the iron leaking. I will clean it tomorrow, a process I find next to useless.

If you want your iron to last use reverse osmosis water with NO minerals added for taste (Distilled, and de-ionized also work). Aquafina is the only brand I know of as of now that's easy to get in the states however any other will work as long as it DOESN'T add minerals. This will prevent caulk from building up as it doesn't have salt(minerals) in the water

Below are the suggestions, that is pretty much covered in every ironing manual. Also a heads-up, this video is an advertisement for an Amazon affiliate link
    - Overfilling
    - Insufficient Heat
    - Low temperature with steam
    - Steam burst
    - Use demineralized water to prevent limescale build up
    - Clean iron every month
    - Empty iron and store upright

Hi Liam. Vinegar definitely helps remove the limescale that builds around the heating elements. Thanks for your feedback.

My fixed problem I thought I solved but not so. when I stand my iron up right after use it leaks badly, I'm wondering if I should take it apart to see were it is leaking, what do you think

Hi Liam. If your iron is still under warranty, I'd return it. The warranty will be void after opening it up. I haven't tried to repair an iron myself, so won't be much help here. Good luck.

i have the Rowenta that you used in your demo. Your demo was informative however, I have had several models of the Rowenta and I have had the same problem with each model, leaking water. I strongly believe there is a defect in the design that is causing this problem in the Rowenta irons. I do everything you mentioned in your demo. I have gone as far as to buy two Rowenta irons, because of this problem. One for the family and the other that i am the only person that uses it. I initially I thought it was dropped and that caused the leaking problem so I bought two Rowenta irons. However, once again, i had the same problem with both of them. This time i could personally vouch that the one I was using was not dropped. I cleaned both irons at the same time. Fortunately I kept the receipts and boxes that they came in and was able to return them for replacements. Yes i got two more Rowenta irons because when they are working properly it is my opinion that none of the other manufacturers have a product to match Rowenta. I would be very interested in knowing if other rowenta purchasers are having the same problem.

I have used Rowenta irons for years. I recently purchased the Steam Force thinking I may not have the leaking issues that I previously had. Unfortunately, the problem is not solved. This iron leaks when in the standing position. It leaks when Im ironing. No matter what I try, it still leaks. it is so frustrating!
