I think Kaga's notes are a bit wrong regarding confirmed deaths of mothers. It wasn't just Erinys/Ferry that died, but Tailtiu, as well. Through convos, we learn in FE4 that Tailtiu and Tinny were kidnapped by Freege forces from Silesse and forcibly brought back to Grannvale. There, Hilda was going to torture both of them, but Tailtiu took the torture meant for Tinny to protect her daughter. After years of such physical and mental abuse, Tailtiu ended up dying from the accumulated injuries and general poor health.
I really like Leif as a character and the mentorship between him and August. Rightfully so, Leif is _very angry_ at the Empire and wants to do what he can to stop them and the Loptr Church, but he has to learn the reality of the situation from August. Other moments in the game highlight Leif's lack of experience and August's pragmatism, which is refreshing compared to... I think most other FEs? Another really strong map I think! I really like the risk vs reward of getting the villages in this map vs triggering the nearby enemies. It's also a neat detail that saving the kids earlier in the game pays off later on. I do wonder how the map would have played out if Galzus showed up earlier in the map... A couple other people in the comments have shared the same experience, but by the time he showed up when I played, my guys were all the way on the other side and I had plenty of time to secure the escape. 22:25 It's the Marth side B! :D 28:08 "I'm a healer, but..." - Nanna probably 35:04 It's... one of the promos of all time hahaha 44:07 let's goooooo
I think Augustus definitely is overlooked in terms if merlinus archetypes. He's not overly passively aggressive/cynical like Soren but his commitment is one of the best and he's not afraid to be blunt when needed Also subtle foreshadowing for a unit who needs in be in a remake in FE4. I do love these escape chapters for how versatile they are in how you escape.
Run for your life! (jojo reference). 0:45 You see August, we just suffered another “Kaga” moment. Which currently my favorite Kaga moment in Fire Emblem next to Veyle. Not to harp too much about Engage (I will be doing that when we get to Chapter 22 though), but again, Veyle’s situation goes way beyond more than just normal mind control. Plus it helps show how Alear and Veyle mirror each other, because Alear could have (and in their own way, was) been put in similar situation to Veyle if Alear wasn’t surrounded by better influences. 4:58 August, as we see here and later, plays a huge role in Leif becoming a true leader and hero. As Emblem Leif states in his Paralogue. 7:03 Funny you say that, considering that the MC of Beyblade Metal Saga just happens to be male and has a Pegasus Beyblade.
The resolution in chapter 12 is surprisingly relevant to both situations in a way. I do think (present) Alear and Eveyle make for interesting foils in hindsight with their core differences driving the conflict but also similarities in existence.
@ Alear and EVeyle both had four members of their team: which becomes more obvious once Timerra joins. Alear had the Four Royals EVeyle has the Four Hounds (Side Note) Nel also foils them both with the Four Winds (the good counterpart to the Hounds).
August speaks! He has some of the hardest quotes of FE5 and his song is great too. This marks Leif getting some well earned authority. This chapter is pretty interesting in how its legacy lived on in the short term. Usually it's compared to FE6 Chapter 7 in pure layout, but the idea of a safe route and door automatically opening kind of reminds me of FE6's chapter 5 in a way as well as FE7's Port of Badon chapter with the big block of axes/bows/mages. And rescue dropping being pointed out is a good way to introduce it to the series, I like how FE8 did it early as well. I do also like the SNES animations of units rushing in across the screen. We might not see it for a while if ever, but the pegasus knight one shot swooping through and out of the screen is pretty good. 29:38 Speaking of Closed tiles earlier, Hicks spawns on a -- tile that gives 5 defense and 20% avoid I guess. According to the wiki, Hicks was the lowest ranking playable character in CYL2/2018 with 9 votes at 816th place (3rd from last), but he peaked with 187 votes in CYL4/2020 making 505th place. 39:12 Technically mounted/20 con units can't rescue/capture other mounted/20 con units, which kind of makes sense that you can't pick up a whole horse, and is important to note for both the player and enemy side as we'll see very soon. Also it means a 20 con Dalsin can't really escape 14x's mountains (without Warp) which is a thing that has happened enough to be notable. 45:09 There are quite a few potential different quotes after Leif's death when certain characters are present.
I like how at least one of August's quotes made it into Engage. I've said a lot that FE5's map design is very reminiscent of the GBA games, and this map is a big reason. I love how the lowest voted people always bounce back next time, by virtue of being last putting them in the spotlight. Also lol that special "closed" tile.
0:19 Destiny, huh? That's a pretty fire name for a song. You could even say it's... ablaze. 0:37 It's a fan translation thing, his name in Japanese is アウグスト ("Augusuto"), his official English name is August, and even in Japanese side material, his name has always been romanized as August. Him being called Augustus is something the fan translators came up with. 1:24 That makes sense; most Fire Emblem games are about wars that span the entire continent, and a war of that size is currently happening in-universe, but it's what Genealogy focuses on. Thracia instead focuses on the conflict taking place on the Thracian Peninsula, which was mentioned in Genealogy but is now being expanded upon, while also serving as a microcosm of the types of conflicts we tend to see in Fire Emblem. In any other Fire Emblem game, Raydrik and Veld would probably be the bosses of a single chapter, maybe the end boss of an arc, and in the grand scheme of things, they might as well be a footnote, but in a game like Thracia where the scale is so much smaller than anything else in the series, they come across as these large, intimidating threats that the player has to overcome rather than the pushovers they really are. 1:52 ...I cannot hear that name anymore without thinking of Trails, even if it is spelled differently in English. 4:57 I can see it, just without the misanthropy. 7:44 Ooh, that Paragon scroll would be nice right about now! 12:06 WHY DO I HEAR BOSS MUSIC!?!?!? 12:51 Yeah, having that guy on the map would certainly make things... annoying, to say the least. 15:06 Well... that certainly was a critical hit animation, or lack thereof. 17:55 Yay, now we can promote someone! 22:25 Damn, that is badass! 28:31 Yeah, that would be REALLY dumb, since it would mean that you would have no Forseti user during Gen 2, and that's horrible. 29:36 Was that the same patch that gave us the absolute beauty that is Murder Hollace? Because if so, that would explain a lot. 35:42 Question is, who will we give it to? 40:42 Oh god, good thing we finished the chapter when we did! 42:15 Oh damn, that fight would probably be the FE5 equivalent of Superman vs. Goku. Question is, which one is Superman and which one is Goku? 43:02 Don't remind me... 44:04 Yay!
1:24 That's why Thracia is so interesting, imo. 28:31 I do wish there was more of an incentive to pair Lewyn with people besides the 3 who give Forseti. 42:15 More like the Sonic vs Shadow fight in the 3rd movie.
At last, we can use horses (and pegasi). 0:57 Leif lost his mother twice and father once. And maybe only one of those times it was the Empire's fault. 1:34 Ah, so it was not a Restore staff. 2:03 Dammit, Kia is a prf staff. 2:32 Azel being one of those statues, presumably. Oh yeah and Lachesis. 4:32 Do not drink earth dragon blood, it ends very badly. Got it. 5:03 Quan and Ethlyn mention! They're canon parents so they get to be namedropped. 7:02 Thankfully that stopped being an issue... on Fates specifically. Pegasus knight returned to being female only afterwards. 8:25 Also Raydrik is just casually carrying a Warp Staff. Sure hope the priest right next to him has no way of using it. 11:29 Oh hi Rapier. You're not lord only i assume...? 12:03 Meanwhile on the other villain corner... featuring a green unit...? 13:13 Horse crit animation, go! 15:04 He's standing there, menacingly! 22:23 Leif wavedash! That's a cool animation, and one Seliph loves to do if he gets the Sigurd Sword. 26:07 I suppose to them it has 7 uses but we just chug the whole flask down for the full magic gain. 28:10 To take a phrase from a Genealogy let's play of a friend. "Ethlyn is a healer than can fight, Nanna is a fighter than can heal". Troubadours are weird in Genealogy, both have a terrible Magic growth. 29:38 Who is currently standing on a - - , which gives 5 defense and 20% avoid. 32:22 Simply hit this 30. The enemy does it all the time... dammit. 36:02 Double Paragon for maximum snowballing. 37:10 Oh the door just opens via cutscene, neat. 42:00 Brands are also in Jungdral... and they seem to be a good thing. 42:14 They enter an awesome 1v1 where Galzus doubles Ced because Ced needed to capture somebody and slow himself down to still be on the map by then, but also Ced rejects being killed because he is Ced (and has the same plot armor as Eyvel) 44:04 Wooo fail channel!
August only became the official localization for his name after Lil' Manster's latest update. So Augustus was our own take on his name before that. We figured the two advisors were named after Emperor Augustus and Darius the Great, and went with those names. Except Darius became Dorius because Cirosan thought it'd cause a confusion with Darios from FE Warriors (meh). Later on, we learned that Dorius is actually named after one of the many important figures names Dryas. And that Augustus is named after one of the MANY important figures named August. Makes sense.
I fully understand that, and in all fairness if I was hypothetically working for Nintendo on an official localization of this game I probably would've named him Augustus too. It's kinda funny how the 2nd advisor takes so long to show up, looking forward to talking about him but he takes his time.
It is interesting how Thracia is a companion piece to Genealogy of the Holy War. Usually when creators decide to expand on a story or world, they do so through prequels or sequels, but Kaga took a very creative approach with making Thracia an “interquel” to Genealogy and zooming in on one of the countries in the grand continent of Grandvale. It’s something that’s not seen very often in media. It’s one of the reasons why I like the Jugdral games so much. Though not the same thing, the creativity with Thracia loosely reminds me of what the FF7 devs are doing with the Remake Trilogy. I don’t want to give too much away if you haven’t played them or FF7 proper, but they’re redefining what a “remake” is in my opinion and they’re doing so quite excellently. When the armored units in Thracia procure a critical hit, it looks like they are charging up their weapon with power or something lol. I quite like this map. I remember when I played it, I had Asbel stay on the top part and attack that huge chunk of enemies at the top while I kept him on a forest tile. I kept Nanna close for Charm and in case she needed to heal him. I think I had him kill all of them…I think…it’s been 2 years since I’ve played, but I’m pretty sure that’s what I did. I was able to get rid of the Meteor mages and the Baron guy with him. He held it down at the top while I had the other units scurry through the bottom of the map and get the houses and destroy the other enemies. Asbel gained A LOT of levels in the Munster arc for me lol. I remember Galzus showing up, but by that point, some people escaped and I only had a few units left on the map. Also, Saias…omg…he’s…interesting…kinda like Reinhardt.
The house layout alone in this chapter gives a lot of people including me FE6 ch7 vibes but I always tend to forget the top castle part of that map exists on that map so I’m pretty convinced that this map ran rent free in the FE6 map developers when that game was being created. Since I played this map a lot slower and actually had Galzus running towards me moment, when I did get chokepointed by the calvary at the end because I was kinda taking my time, Brighton was the last of my units in line who was decently healthy when I was when trying to get certain units to escape safety and he crited the lot of the calvary and I think armors while being on the verge of death and after he got his imaginary medal, he proceeded his disappointment streak from there to Ig show he wanted retirement after that. Also welcome back proper FE fail channel after being pretty much absent in the Engage run. Woooooo Hicks: Was just about a generic bench resider but he did find a way onto my chapter 14 lineup after someone in particular was fatigued in that chapter, and I guess I did bring him out of meme train cope…
Other comments pointed that out and it's weird I didn't notice. Then again I don't play FE6 much. Galzus chasing you is genuinely scary, much more than Astram in FE12 at least. Yeah rewinds kinda take away from the Fail Channel, I suppose.
Time for Leif to hopefully get out with his life. 6:44 Official licensed cheese strats! 8:25 Now that's just a tease. Always interesting to see Rapiers not being restricted to Lords. I remember those being pretty handy in Three Houses partly because of that. I just noticed this, but Longbows aren't 2-3 range in this game. Odd, since that's their whole schtick in later games. 22:23 You've seen a Swordryuken, but get ready for the Sword Goku Satsu! Seriously, that's a sick crit animation. I'll give Hicks this... I like his portrait sprite. 42:57 "Sorry, we got on a tangent there." - Rishel, Tear Ring Saga, in the middle of a 10 minute exposition dump.
6:44 A later chapter has a weird one. And yep, any Sword user can use Rapiers here, which is cool. "Long" is just a category of weapon here, weirdly. I think the Battle Axe is the "Long Axe" though. 22:23 GREAT name for it! 42:57 I love that.
It's kind of a huge shame that August doesn't join Leif in Geneology. Like, he didn't EXIST back then, but still. I hope he's playable in an FE4 remakr
@@BigKlingy I remember he does the Swordruyken but I don't remember if he does the sword dance I tried looking it up but surprisingly youtube doesn't have a crit montage of the Jugdral games (or if there is one it's buried in a sea of crit montages of the GBA titles)
0:12 Does this mean it's the last Escape mission for a while? 1:52 I officially hate Manfroy, and I've only seen him once. Would they even use a Staff that cures petrification? 2:37 That's creepy as hell! Since the Staff of Kia can return them to flesh, they technically aren't dead, but are they even conscious? 4:04 I feel like I've heard another series do that? Is it Trails? 6:24 We have a pseudo-Stealth Mission! 7:40 Pure evil. That's a pure evil decision to make. 11:39 It's so weird to have a Rapier not be Lord-exclusive. 12:21 Is he unkillable there? 13:59 I saw a God-tier strategy for rescue-dropping to complete Chapter 10 Stealth in Path of Radiance with full bonus experience and all chests! If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend watching it. 19:18 I do kind of miss Class-Specific Promotion items, just because they added a little bit of extra charm to the game (even though they're more inconvenient). 23:47 That's actually even funnier! 28:37 The Mage father gives bad magic!? I love it! 29:38 That is... a very unfortunate name. 30:47 RIP Gotoh. 35:55 I love it! 37:38 That's actually kind of funny Ret-Canon! 39:30 They arrived just in time to watch us leave! 40:39 That feels like Astram showing up in Khadein. 42:40 I like how Veld treats Raydrik like an idiot, then Raydrik treats his own men like idiots. 44:06 Perfect intro!
0:12 Nope, next one is. 13:59 That sounds amazing. 28:37 Growths in FE4 mostly come from Crusader Blood and Lewyn's gives Speed, not Magic. 30:47 I know, why is he so low? And the RD merchants. 40:39 Except actually threatening, because Galzus has lots of capped stats, Astra, Luna and Brave weapons. 42:40 The chain of being surrounded by idiots.
Unit review: Hicks. He’s a unit. He’s maybe has slight better growths than Brighton. He can’t hit and no good supports. Be doesn’t even have ambush. He is not a good axe unit in a game where you are given surprisingly decent ones if you train them up.
This chapter kinda reminds me of a reverse Chapter 7 of Binding Blade, minus the escape objective. The reverse being that you start at the top and work your way down.
Oh boy… the start of the GALZUS JUMPSCARES!!!! The fact he caught me off guard many times is scary!!!😅 i love the houses of this chapter so much! Also we get the funny man hicks who i always use. There’s a funny interaction u can do if u didn’t visit the gaiden chapter, u can have ced and galzus duke it out and ced will always win XD ced will join the chapter as an ally if the gaiden wasn’t visited
14:43 I know Sacred Stones does this (for those who don’t know, you have to use Vanessa to save Garcia and his son Ross), but I do not know any other examples.
We finally make our escape! I think they tutorialize rescue in Sacred Stone, with Vanessa and Ross. Truman was the US president who succeeded FDR after he died in office. I don’t know if you didn’t mention it but Rivough was the Isaachan kingdom that kinda started the events of Genealogy of the Holy War.
There are quite a few WW2 references in this game. My own theory is that once they realized the title would be Thracia 776, they decided to incorporate a few aspects of US history which of course officially began in 1776.
August seems really interesting, I liked what he was saying at the beginning and I’m interested to see more of him in the coming chapters. Though it seems like the game is going to turn into the Leif and August show guest starring a new recruit. From what I remember I really didn’t like that in fe6 (From what I remember I found the story to be extremely unmemorable until the very end) and while Leif and August are interesting characters, I hope to see more variety in who speaks (which I know is happening considering that other tactician who’s name I don’t remember). 12:17 HOO BOY ITS THESE TWO 17:56 You know I’d didn’t expect this game to be the originator of Master Seals, I honestly thought that was later
As a person named August... this was a little surreal to listen to... but I wouldn't say I'm a pragmatist... but strangely enough I'm interested in Pragmaticism. An offshoot actually by the originator of Pragmatism, Charles Sanders Peirce.
I saw a review of Vestaria Saga 2 and after playing TearRing Saga I was like "that checks out". Kaga has this habit of having everyone who joins saying "Hi, here's my entire backstory and the genealogy of all my aunts and uncles."
@ kaga worst writing habits also end up appearing a lot in vesteria saga 2 unfortunately compared to vesteria saga 1. It’s kinda a shame honestly, cuz I Did like vesteria saga 1 story
@@firecraft7032 It apparently keeps dumping world lore/politics that isn't relevant to the main plot. The review also listed "too many teenage brides" as a negative. Uh oh.
The way I play this Chapter is kinda risky because it all rides on Karin. I don't unlock the doors but just Rescue Drop as many units as possible (which is usually all of them) to the area with the Storage Unit. Then do the same to next area with the shops. I believe none of the enemies have door keys so they can't pursue you. After that, I unlock the door to the escape point. Now comes the tricky and dangerous part where I have Karin go to every house and use clever Canter to put her out of range of enemies. 1:40. True, it's why even though Veld is technically the Final Boss of this game, I consider Raydrik the Final Boss. It's like a FE7 situation where the Big Bad is Nergal but the Fire Dragon is technically the Final Boss. 4:00. Not just Kaga but Japanese creators in general. If they need something to have a cool name and they don't use English, it's safe to assume the next language they'll pull from is German. A LOT of trashy Light Novels love pulling from German for fantasy names. 19:25. While I do prefer the universal Master Seal, I think there's a bit of charm to the different Promotion Items for Different Classes (Hero Crest, Knight Crest, Orion Bolt, etc) because it makes each type of class more unique.
Finally Leif is out of Munster but at a great cost. I like the overall design of this chapter, it gives you a lot of options on how to approach it, though you really should go grab all the houses since they give very good items. Also the appearance of 3 unique characters, one is very good, the other is good but also dangerous in this chapter and the bishop is……obnoxious. Hicks: He’s…..an axe knight……with no skills…..meh-ish growths….he has good con but……yeah that’s all I got about him.
Oh boy...Galzus is a unit who I have a rather personal vendetta with in Heroes. Why? Because he's my most frequent pitybreaker, showing up 4 times uninvited, 2 of which occurred when I was summoning to get Bridal Lapis. His skills (Surge Sparrow and Null Follow Up 3) are not that good for being a 5 star locked pitybreaker, too, so he's also pretty bad in that regard. Plus, the banner right before his banner was the cutoff for when the older 5 stars were removed from the pitybreaker summoning pool, so I'd have to wait for the next time this happens. Very good that the unknown character doesn't stick around...for now. Speaking of Sonic, the fail channel is here! It's always hype to hear that E rank music on your LPs.
I mainly just use my Orbs and see who I get with FEH, but being pity broken is annoying. And a lot of 5-stars need to get demoted. The E Rank Unleashed music recently showed up when Orbot tried to call Tails in the New Years video on the Sonic TH-cam channel, lol.
I agree for this game that it's great that it tutorialized rescue dropping but is it weird to say that rescue dropping seems to get a little less useful as the series goes on. I'm not talking about the fact that some games don't even have rescue as an option, I mean that in this game and FE6 it's incredibly important, but in the games afterwards if starts to feel like less of a necessity. I think warp didn't get a tutorial in most games because it usually shows up really late in the game. I thought the names of the enemy generals sounded familiar. I remember the first time I beat this chapter, Galzus showed up and half of my army had already retreated.
28:29 I’m actually planning on the Lachesis and Azelle pairing if I do another Genealogy run just for the sake of Earth Sword nuke Nanna strats. I’ll just stick magical swords on her brother to try and make him usable
Interesting from Augustus to explain got Leif at the start of this 6th Chapter The Escape.. Cool. Hm? Galzus?.. (After Leif & his army left from grabbing from the villages for the children rescued. Not only that but gets a 1 recruit to joining his army. Nice.) Raydrik.. Huh.. So he knows.. (Mareeta & Galzus.. Huh.) Fail.. Yep. 1st game over of the past BigKlingy.. 😅
1:25 I was gonna comment about this last video, but in away Raydrik being the way he is aka more one note could be argued to make sense that he'd be a chapter boss in Genealogy. That does get a bit meta so I don't know if that would be intentional on Kaga's part 2:19 The image of a certain character in Seliph's army sneezing came to mind even if that person probably isn't gonna be the one to distone Eyvel(If that army even has been established yet) 4:57 Pokémon fan brain talking, but would it also be accurate to call August the Truth to Leif's Ideals 7:10 If only more pegasi were like Hermes. That or Sky Knight just became a thing outside of Fates and just became a note that male flyers technically don't ride Pegasi 28:12 Nanna casually lifting up Leif has entered my head 35:48 Paragon Manuel Page 1 "Saving innocent lives your number one goal". 38:07 So Leif x Nanna is a bit like Roy x Lillina 39:23 Is it because Fergus is mounted? 43:39 Considering a big plot point in Genealogy, I think that's safe to assume
1:25 That's my headcanon anyway. 4:57 Probably. Though August gets a foil later who's even more skewed in that direction. 7:10 Agreed, genderlocked classes need to go in general. 28:12 ...yes. 38:07 Basically, yeah.
If I were to remake Thracia, I'd make it so Asbel joins you here if you skipped 4x. Ced shows up if you don't get the Gaiden anyways, so it'd make sense. I guess the implication is he died if you don't play 4x? Also, you can actually mount on Ch 4 in that one outside area with the treasure chest, which kinda breaks the story-gameplay integration of this map, but oh well. Despite my nitpicking, this is one of my favorite maps in the game.
-Yeah this chapter rules, the devs making any mention of rescue/drop strats really is pretty unique in the series. -A lot of the crit animations here are just like in FE4. They're a mixed bag, I like most of the foot unit crits but GBA really improved the mounted crits a lot (and armor knight/general too, that's for sure). -Anyone can Wait in front of the lower central double doors for them to open, much like the 'copy' of this map, FE6 Chapter 7 has the same trigger to open closed double doors near the top of that map - glad to see you eventually found this out. -Nice of you to show the Earth Sword animation, now please never do it again. The map animation is so much quicker and still cool. I feel the same way about the Light Brand animation, just way too slow to watch any version except the map version. -FE4 Nanna was good at combat and healing, nothing wrong with that. She just needs a Mend staff and then she's able to heal just about anyone to full. She never really needed to be magically blessed with a 10-use Earth Sword. I'm much happier with how she functions in this game, with a 60-use Earth Sword and much more importance placed on magic. Also to those people who don't like Wrath Nanna, she's clearly the best recipient of the manual and it's just an incredibly fun build. -Hicks has...bulk and a horse. He can take a ballista hit and move people around, but I have never relied on him for combat. -FE4 has a Hard Mode which unlocks after you clear the game once. It just changes enemy AI to be less random with targeting, and it's quite exploitable in its own way (Finn's Miracle becomes more OP, for example) so I wouldn't call it much harder really. -Mounts have 20 Con, so Karin can't carry anyone who has a horse unless they're dismounted. I'll chalk that one up to your own Fatigue from having to restart the map. -Two chapters in a row where you've dodged the appearance of Galzus, I guess your viewers will have to wait quite a lot longer to see his amazing stats and skills!
I think a couple of animations got a slight upgrade but they're mostly the same as FE4. Didn't know FE6's door also worked like that. Also LOL I forgot the Earth Sword only had 10 uses before needing repairs in FE4. And right. "Clever Mode", I think it was? I forgot that was a thing, and like you said it was more a modifier for the AI, and like Pokemon Gen 1's "Good AI" it can be exploited.
30:52 Honestly, I'm kinda interested in how a Thracia remake could make Hicks (and other characters like him in this game) more interesting. Especially if they decide to give EVERY unit a personal/innate skill to even the playing field a bit more. 38:52 A scroll buried in the yard? Okaaaaay....
30:52 Giving him dialogue and supports might be cool. I'd assume he'd be used to flesh-out how Munster peasants feel about things... or they'd use him as comic relief.
1:48 Oh my god. That’s actually so accurate. This is really the equivalent of one a one off boss being the main villain where we delve deeper into their backstory. 2:10 God I love that so much. Like I legitimately thought when I first played the game we would somehow force Manfroy to unpetrify Eyvel. 2:40 a wild theory I kinda like is those are Fe 4 characters like ayra. 4:39 which can I say: in a remake I would ADORE a post game like in SOV where it confirms a connection between Loptr and the Fell dragon Grima. SOV only explains the origins of Grimm or “the creation” still no explanation of the bloodline plus the dead lord make a reappearance in awakening. There is SOMETHING there. 7:48 And a crusader scroll both of which are the two left houses. Meaning you have to fight your way to them. Which I like. 9:14 Dismounting is probably one of my least favorite features. Mostly Because it’s very inconsistent in the intricacies of how they work between the games their present in. 10:12 Oh this game. 12:59 We call that in the biz foreshadowing 14:06 I honestly can’t think of a single “bad” early game Pegasus knight. They’re all decent in some way or you have the means to make them better. 15:34 Lowkey i actually think it’s not a bad idea to give the life ring to Brighton. Even if he doesn’t level def the extra hp allows him to tank more hits from all the enemies clearing it faster. 19:29 I greatly prefer universal promo items. Gives more freedom and one my main criticism of GBA fire Emblem. It’s should be telling in the remakes for Marth’s games they made it universal. And we haven’t seen specific class promotion outside of dlc or very specific cases like dark bishop from 3 houses. 25:48 I swear isn’t there a boss in this game named Churchill? 30:49 Oh I can’t wait to talk about a certain other character was infamous for being bottom in the first CYL. 36:22 It is actually ironic the alternate modes for the early fire emblems made the game easier. 37:23 You didn’t know that? This is a fun chapter and reminds of chapter 7 from Fe 6. God I love playing this game after so long. 43:20 that somehow flew past me.
29:42 Ah, Hicks. To be honest, I like using Hicks more than Brighton, don't know why though. Also, I wish most of the cast from Radiant Dawn didn't follow Eyvel's example of availability.
I saw Sonic 3 last night and it was SO good. Don't wanna spoil anything, but it was amazing. I also got Sonic x Shadow Generations, also rly enjoying that.
It's just a really good film in general, and I like how they trimmed down the non-game humans to the most popular ones and giving them JUST enough screentime to be relevant while not dominating the game characters. Really excited to see where things go with the post-credits characters too.
@BigKlingy Ikr, I had a feeling you'd enjoy the post credits characters. I like how they gave Maria and Gerald more character instead of basically just being there for Shadow and Eggman's story.
When it comes to translation and localization i usually capitulare and go with what the official version says Except for the Mystletainn holy blood, that will always be Hezul to me and im not getting off that horse
And now we're on the map that FE6 stole from for its Chapter 7. No seriously, look at these two maps side by side. Besides cutting out some smaller details like the right side areas and very top left, the FE6 chapter only cut down some trees in the center to build an arena and built a throne room in the top middle of the map. That map in FE6 is the most "hey can I copy your homework" map in FE and kind of dislike it for being a lesser version of what's easily one of my favorite maps in Thracia. 1:25- Which is neat and a cool idea, but how it impacts Raydrik's screen time though... Wished this game was still that perfectly smaller scoped battle in a large whole without screwing over its only good main villain's screen time. 4:59- Or now since I've played Triangle Strategy, he acts more akin to Benedict as the pragmatist advisor, except August is a bit more understanding while being realistic and is seeing a greater whole play out instead of serving one House. 6:07- And now we've seen most of that conversation between Augustus and Leif... Easily one of Thracia's best and most defining moments about this game. That conversation perfectly encapsulate Thracia's story as, how despite this being the "lowest stake FEs" as this is effectively only one theater in a greater war we saw in FE4, it shows the gravity of the situation better than pretty much any other game except maybe 4 or the Tellius games, the dire straights are all in and shows in frightening detail how the Empire rules with an iron fist. Still get chills at the talks of the people trying to fight back to save their kids only to be killed and/or put at the torch with ease by those who rule. But it shows even in the face all of that evil, how Leif is finding the resolve to face this vile reality and start working for the betterment of the world, begining the long awaited revolution against the Granvale Empire. Thracia is an amazing story about the brith of a just rebellion and that entire conversation is where it truly begins in the plot. 17:30- I stress again for any new time player, GET A SHORT LANCE ON KARIN ASAP FOR THIS CHAPTER. Either have one pre-prepared in storage from Chapters 1-3 or be sure to snag one during the first half of the escape arc here to get one onto her at the ready. A few combats with it here where there's relatively safe enemies to fight and plenty of spaces she can uniquely duck into and she can easily get out of E Rank hell and start using real lances to begin having some good enough combat potential when she's on utility duty for later maps. 24:24- That chapter is, BUT you need to make sure to pull them out of danger ASAP. Door Keys do help, but a thief is still nice for that map, especially to speed up the last bit of it. 29:40- Also known as the guy who I can't call by his proper name on Twitch since they think I'm saying a mean word towards country people and not realizing this man's name is literally Hicks. Stupid Twitch. Had to call him "Hickory" to bypass that annoying censor. 37:19- I never realized that gate could be opened like that until almost the end of last year with another LP. Certainly would have made some things easier on my end. 39:17- Mounts can't carry/capture other mounted units in this game as it doesn't work like GBA FE where mounts could pick up other mounts I think; They need to be dismounted first. First timers watching/playing Thracia, remember that fact for later when you need to get creative for a certain something later... 42:51- Eh, this one's fine, especially since Raydrik is clearly annoyed he has to spell everything out with this one soldier, which fits naturally with their previous talks. Look, I know Kaga created the Rishel monologue of doom, but don't let it taint every little moment where he needs to put a tiny bit more of exposition in other places, especially when there's some dressing to make it on topic unlike the monologue of doom. 44:08- FAIL CHANNEL LET'S GO! No offense Klingy. lol In other news, not much. Most of the last session playing ARF was spent grinding levels, weapons, and money up to face that one difficult optional boss early. But when it was said and done it... Took me three attempts total to beat it. Mostly came down to me making sure to have anti-confusion gear on and getting lucky with little to no confusion procs on my units since too many meant a loss. But the winning attempt went well, no confusion procs on my party, the guest member AI was smart and made sure to chain magic the boss was clearly weak to which actually helped to chip a tenth of the boss's HP away. Honestly if this boss wasn't a "glass cannon" (I say that loosely given the level difference it had on us and could take lesser hits really well), wouldn't have been feasible, but with everything else in place, managed to beat it early. Got some nice gear and 34K from it and the quest it was tied to, though the money is less impressive when you realized I grinded up to 80K and ended up spending most of it on gear for this fight and later ones and on a big stockpile of healing items to outdo the DPS. That aside, time for more plot, which is where the game certainly gets a lot more interesting in my opinion.
@jaredfayette2567 For being very similarly laid out maps, they do play quite differently. I kind of like both maps to be honest. Augustus does his job of advisor very well in this game also because of another character we will see later. It really does show just how bad things have gotten in Jugdral now that Loptous has fully taken over. Remember that things were relatively fine when Emperor Arvis was around but once he lost his power and became a puppet, that is when things went very done hill. I think Long Lances are D rank so if you get the weapon rank she can use them and you can loot them off the armours thanks to our mounted soldiers. I don't remember using Hickory. Maybe I just went to the arena and saw how he grew but he wasn't standing out to other units. To put it simply, they both had effective 20 con and you can't rescue if your con is equal or lower than the target. PoR was another game where rescuing mounts was basically impossible but it does make logical sense. I don't mind it too since it does explain why Galzus is so strong. Another detail about Galzus is that the music changes when he is about to appear and then spawns on the map. This map was one I found very enjoyable to play especially after hearing what you thought of my Asbel play as well. Good to hear that optional boss went down eventually and you are looking comfortable in terms of items and funds too. It should feel nice to go back to story progress as well. For me, the main attraction was more challenge levels in Sonic Generations and these really turned up the frustration with their difficulty but we managed to make it through most of them with only the Planet Wisp challenges to go. Other than that, Innocent Sin is going well as usual and it will be back to Eternal Punishment after some scheduling changes.
@@BerserkerRohan That is a fair point if I am to ease up on this map just a bit. But still, it's a bit harder for me to drop that against FE6 Chapter 7 given how much I love Chapter 6 of Thracia and how it does feel a bit odd of reusing a map without a logical explanation (like Chapter 4(?) of FE6 also being in 7 that's justified by the latter being a prequel to the former). Though in a gesture of good faith, when it comes to reusing this map, at least FE6 Chapter 7 is probably one of the better ones to do so when compared to all the reused maps in Revs that it takes from BR/Cq and makes them worse in many people's opinion. That he does and can't wait to talk more about why later with that other fellow. That's also a really good point about why this scene is great. It does the other thing that I really like about Thracia greatly; Adding more context/enhancing things from FE4 as well. Sure FE4 does tell you how badly things got, which you can believe as the omniscient player who knows anything good the puppet master Arvis will do will be undone by the real masters of the show the Loptyr Cult and how they make everything else worse, but it's FE5 that REALLY hammers home the true consequences of their Trojan takeover through Arvis. Never has the Granvale Empire & Loptyr Cult, nah any evil enemy force in FE, has felt this oppressive and dominating before. Not only does it really show the player how badly things got during the in between of FE4's two halves, but it also makes Thracia's smaller scope hit harder when it's up against such an opposing force of evil. That's true as well she can use them, though I'm a bit more impartial to Long Lances on Karin since they make her do an impression of the Hector Hard Mode Peg Knights with Steel Lances. Granted she can still make them work thanks to the lower stat lines of enemies, but I'd rather just cough the gold up from stolen loot in the last few chapters to get an iron lance or two instead. Yeah, never really used Hicks outside maybe a swing or two between all the ferrying he did in the little time he has. Also don't worry, you can call him by his real name; The Twitch censors can't get you here. lol Yeah, PoR's rescuing makes a lot more sense due to the logical impractical of how difficult it would be to carry a tiger or massive hawk and how the game goes for "realistic" proportions for things that would make some rescues look silly if they were allowed. Also another point for why the explanation feels more natural; It answers a player's question of why the hell Galzus is so strong since, unlike something like Mr. X or Nemesis from RE who don't really need an explanation of why they're such a terrifying threat, a player really wants to know why this seemingly random guy is stupidly strong and has a unique portrait. Plus putting this explanation in an optional spot for " improving pacing" would be bad as a player could miss that important explanation, so it's better to explain it here where it's already naturally integrated well. Again, certainly a creative approach on your end; Can't get chased by the town guard if they're already dead. lol Many thanks and I look forward to it since the progress here is about to hit the point where ARF really starts showing its better parts. Despite all the frustrations, glad you guts persevered through those challenges in Generations; Had I know you'd be the one tackling the more difficult optional stuff between the two of us, I would have wished you even better, but glad you made it through regardless. Good luck with the Planet Wisp challenges. Likewise, hope all for IS and EP goes well too.
@@jaredfayette2567 I don't mind and both maps present their own unique challenges. FE5 does really show just how bad things have gotten even for smaller scale towns and cities considering you are traversing whole continents in FE4. I would prefer to use Iron Lances too but I take what I can get when it comes to weaponry except for Wind tomes since you have to buy them to have a good stock of them. I liked what Hickory sounded like. It is interesting for gameplay since it does mean only foot units can be rescued which is some boon to have around in PoR and it being mount dominated but it is very nice to make use of for fast clears in RD. Galzus does have interesting lore to begin with and could explain something strange with a certain weapon later. It also meant Asbel level capped so he promoted. That sounds really cool. Rooftop Run had some pretty rough challenges so hopefully Planet Wisp goes better.
I'm going to make a statement that might be a hot take. I'd actually consider Hicks here the most forgettable unit in Thracia. I know a certain group later often gets brought up, but I feel like they have the weird state where they're memed as forgettable which makes them vaguely memorable in a way. Hicks here doesn't even really have that
True. And the "scrub squad" later on are at least memorable by virtue of being so bad. Hicks is still kinda decent, so he doesn't even have that going for him.
*Unit Review* Who the hell uses Hicks? Brighton's already a fairly underwhelming unit and that's with Wrath and being a free deploy in the hardest section of the game. He can do horse stuff outdoors if you have an extra deploy. Who cares?
I think Kaga's notes are a bit wrong regarding confirmed deaths of mothers. It wasn't just Erinys/Ferry that died, but Tailtiu, as well.
Through convos, we learn in FE4 that Tailtiu and Tinny were kidnapped by Freege forces from Silesse and forcibly brought back to Grannvale. There, Hilda was going to torture both of them, but Tailtiu took the torture meant for Tinny to protect her daughter. After years of such physical and mental abuse, Tailtiu ended up dying from the accumulated injuries and general poor health.
Yes, this was noted in the interview. Kaga must've forgot.
28:08 "I'm a healer, but..." - Nanna probably
35:04 It's... one of the promos of all time hahaha
44:07 let's goooooo
I think Augustus definitely is overlooked in terms if merlinus archetypes. He's not overly passively aggressive/cynical like Soren but his commitment is one of the best and he's not afraid to be blunt when needed
Also subtle foreshadowing for a unit who needs in be in a remake in FE4.
I do love these escape chapters for how versatile they are in how you escape.
Totally agreed on August. And he'll get a foil later in the story.
22:25 “I feel as if I have known you for ages!”
Pff, that's such a weird crit line.
Alear had the Four Royals
EVeyle has the Four Hounds
(Side Note) Nel also foils them both with the Four Winds (the good counterpart to the Hounds).
42:14 They enter an awesome 1v1 where Galzus doubles Ced because Ced needed to capture somebody and slow himself down to still be on the map by then, but also Ced rejects being killed because he is Ced (and has the same plot armor as Eyvel)
44:04 Wooo fail channel!
Asbel on terrain with Nanna and Leif in support range is definitely viable for clearing out the top enemies.
Welkenrosen, by the way, would be something along the lines of "Wilting rose". A bit of a strange name for the, essentially, a death squad.
I don't find it strange, it's quite fitting since the roses are dying. I've also seen it translated as 'withered'.
I dunno, it always sounded kind of cool to me.
The bonus footage of Stave misses is appreciated!
Yes, my favorite chapter in the Manster Escape Arc!
That's pretty cool, since I don't see as much love for this one as the others.
Woooooo
Hicks: Was just about a generic bench resider but he did find a way onto my chapter 14 lineup after someone in particular was fatigued in that chapter, and I guess I did bring him out of meme train cope…
The group goes trick-or-treating!
lol, we really are going to all these kids houses and asking for stuff!
It's kind of a huge shame that August doesn't join Leif in Geneology.
Like, he didn't EXIST back then, but still. I hope he's playable in an FE4 remakr
Or at least alluded to. Given that later in Thracia reveals that he knows someone pretty important from Genealogy.
22:26 that crit animation is so kool, reminds me of Alex's Sword Dance from Lunar Silver Star
I think Seliph does it in FE4, too.
@@BigKlingy I remember he does the Swordruyken but I don't remember if he does the sword dance I tried looking it up but surprisingly youtube doesn't have a crit montage of the Jugdral games (or if there is one it's buried in a sea of crit montages of the GBA titles)
Lachesis does the sword dance crit I remember that much
okay I found a clip of Seliph doing the Sword Dance crit
39:24 You can't neither rescue nor capture mounted unitd because they're considered to have capped con
@@AlexT7916 Yeah I figured that after this.
This episode
Runnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!-oh free stuff!
Now that you mention it it IS pretty similar. Except there's no arena and Zelot isn't here.
It's literally the exact same layout, minus the rightmost part.
My first time playing this I got bottlenecked pretty back, though I don't remember ever having Galzus attack me.
14:43
I know Sacred Stones does this (for those who don’t know, you have to use Vanessa to save Garcia and his son Ross), but I do not know any other examples.
I was thinking that, but it's not quite as in-depth as this.
I can say that August is a real name and it doesn't have to be Augustus (know from plenty of experience).
I kinda wish we got a bit more on the Isaach rebellion because, like you said, it basically started FE4.
Alm & Celica share ancestor and the Elibe lords as well.
I guess technically, those were further back than the crusaders though iirc.
12:17 HOO BOY ITS THESE TWO
17:56 You know I’d didn’t expect this game to be the originator of Master Seals, I honestly thought that was later
There's a lot more dialogue from other characters in Thracia, compared to FE6's "Roy and Merlinus Show". August is great though.
@@BigKlingy Ah, good to know.
As a person named August... this was a little surreal to listen to... but I wouldn't say I'm a pragmatist... but strangely enough I'm interested in Pragmaticism. An offshoot actually by the originator of Pragmatism, Charles Sanders Peirce.
Definitely a unique map, that’s for sure.
Also as someone who watched play through of Vesteria Saga, yeah kaga needs an editor holy shit.
4:00 I'm not sure why the German obsession, though I've looked into it a few times.
Hicks is the guy who made me understand why some people are ride or die for random no-namers. That's my guy right there! I love units with huge CON.
Yeah he's a great unit to just go full Crusader Scroll ham with and make amazing.
I guess, though rescue dropping seems really good in FE8.
I probably should've shown Galzus here, his stats/skills are so hilariously terrifying.
28:29 I’m actually planning on the Lachesis and Azelle pairing if I do another Genealogy run just for the sake of Earth Sword nuke Nanna strats. I’ll just stick magical swords on her brother to try and make him usable
It makes they decent with Flame Swords too.
Interesting from Augustus to explain got Leif at the start of this 6th Chapter The Escape.. Cool.
Hm? Galzus?.. (After Leif & his army left from grabbing from the villages for the children rescued. Not only that but gets a 1 recruit to joining his army. Nice.)
Raydrik.. Huh.. So he knows.. (Mareeta & Galzus.. Huh.)
Fail.. Yep. 1st game over of the past BigKlingy.. 😅
1:25
I was gonna comment about this last video, but in away Raydrik being the way he is aka more one note could be argued to make sense that he'd be a chapter boss in Genealogy. That does get a bit meta so I don't know if that would be intentional on Kaga's part
2:19
The image of a certain character in Seliph's army sneezing came to mind even if that person probably isn't gonna be the one to distone Eyvel(If that army even has been established yet)
4:57
Pokémon fan brain talking, but would it also be accurate to call August the Truth to Leif's Ideals
7:10
If only more pegasi were like Hermes. That or Sky Knight just became a thing outside of Fates and just became a note that male flyers technically don't ride Pegasi
28:12
Nanna casually lifting up Leif has entered my head
35:48
Paragon Manuel Page 1
"Saving innocent lives your number one goal".
38:07
So Leif x Nanna is a bit like Roy x Lillina
39:23
Is it because Fergus is mounted?
43:39
Considering a big plot point in Genealogy, I think that's safe to assume
I guess like Merlinus' delayed recruitment in FE7 if you don't do his sidequest. That'd work.
Holy shit it's Hicks!
Yep, he's sure here.
4:00 Welken means old or withered, so "withered roses". Could be a pejorative, to be honest
42:15 That's probably the most normal Excelblem moment.
42:15 Which is saying something.
12:59 We call that in the biz foreshadowing
14:06 I honestly can’t think of a single “bad” early game Pegasus knight.
36:22 It is actually ironic the alternate modes for the early
fire emblems made the game easier.
37:23 You didn’t know that?
This is a fun chapter and reminds of chapter 7 from Fe 6. God I love playing this game after so long.
43:20 that somehow flew past me.
1:48 Yep, it's cool.
4:39 Depending on how it's done I'd be down for that.
29:42 Ah, Hicks. To be honest, I like using Hicks more than Brighton, don't know why though.
Also, I wish most of the cast from Radiant Dawn didn't follow Eyvel's example of availability.
He's got a bit more obvious bulk to start, which is nice.
Do. You. Chance It? The chapter. Thanks for the video.
@@lunaamethyst5724 Getting to see Shadow and Maria just goofing off being kids was amazing. And I love the movie's take on Gerald.
@BigKlingy Gotta say, in the lasers scene with him and Ivo...he is REALLY flexible for someone who's 110 years old
When it comes to translation and localization i usually capitulare and go with what the official version says
Except for the Mystletainn holy blood, that will always be Hezul to me and im not getting off that horse
Hell yeah leif now has + 3 Hit/Avo for the rest of the game.
12:55 What you dont want to deal with his 10 auth stars yet?
Yay August!
12:55 Oh I'll talk about this guy later...
30:48 He... He beat Edain and Claud?
???????????????
Please don't insult my dear healers like that.
AGREED. Also he beat my boy Dolph.
No offense Klingy. lol
In other news, not much.
@jaredfayette2567
For being very similarly laid out maps, they do play quite differently.
Also don't worry, you can call him by his real name; The Twitch censors can't get you here. lol
Yeah, PoR's rescuing makes a lot more sense due to the logical impractical of how difficult it would be to carry a tiger or massive hawk and how the game goes for "realistic" proportions for things that would make some rescues look silly if they were allowed.
Again, certainly a creative approach on your end; Can't get chased by the town guard if they're already dead. lol
Many thanks and I look forward to it since the progress here is about to hit the point where ARF really starts showing its better parts.
*Unit Review*
Who the hell uses Hicks?
Brighton's already a fairly underwhelming unit and that's with Wrath and being a free deploy in the hardest section of the game. He can do horse stuff outdoors if you have an extra deploy. Who cares?
He's at least a free meatshield in this chapter.
