Yes Tuomas wrote this song, but he was not happy about it. First he kind of got pushed into doing it. Then when he agreed he was told it had to be done by a certain time and could only be so long. He was really angry because people assume that a song writer can just write a song on demand. I read that Tuomas wrote the song longer than he was supposed to. In this show there were 7 singers from the Netherlands and they sang a song for each of the other singers. They could pick a song that the singer did or one that meant a lot to them. Floor sang 6 individual songs and 2 duets. The songs were from all kinds of genres and she sang in 4 different languages. The songs are only about 3 minutes long because of the show. The other singers that were on the show were really good. Floor was not well known in her country. Only 2 of the singers had heard of her or knew of her. After this show they know who Floor is. Also a wonderful lady from the discord translated the shows into English. Her name id Denise Hofs. You can check her channel and a couple that got blocked are on dailymotion. Don't just skip to the phantom, do more episodes to understand the diversity that Floor had to offer! Phantom is like recommending The Greatest Show On Earth straight away. You have to ease them into it. Start with Villa Lied or Mama from Beste Zangers.
Just an absolutely gorgeous song! Floor and Tarja both sing this song brilliantly, although...Tuomas changed the song in some small ways...and I imagine it was to make the song fit Floors style. I have noticed subtle differences in many of the songs that were once sung by Tarja, that are now being sung by Floor. Thanks for the excellent reaction video! This is one of those songs that doesn't need a lot of critiquing...Floor just kills it!
Nightwish has a very broad variety of musical styles. Everything from Metallica to folk to Celtic music. Beautiful performance. Very calming and mellow. Great reaction Hype Train!

The colour choice was probably to match with the Finnish flag. I guess she didn't want to wear a white dress with a blue DNA symbol. This is what I understand it to be.
A day without listening to Floor sing, is a wasted day. I'd recommend listening to a heavier Nightwish song next. Romanticide or Song of Myself live at Wacken 2013 🤘
That song got me hooked back in 2000. Bought a Soundtrack (The 13th Floor), never even saw the movie. On it were songs from Bands like Rammstein, NIN, etc. and one song from Nightwish - Sleeping Sun. I still remember being completely blown away by that song. Well, and here we are 19 years later and they are still going strong and i still love their music. Thank you for reacting to this.
This was beautiful, Floor never disappoints! Although I like Sleeping Sun more with Tarja singing it cause it sounds magical so I'd recommend you to check her version of this song and of Ever Dream as well (many people think Tuomas actually wrote Ever Dream about Tarja so in that last performance of hers it was very emotional). You nailed Nightwish exactly. They can smash you in the face with some power metal, and then turn around and lull you to calmness with a song like this one. They have some really nice folky metal songs too. Floor really displayed her versatility when she participated in the Dutch TV show Beste Zangers recently. I've seen some comments below suggesting you check that out. If you decide to, I doubt you'll be disappointed. Like 2-3 of those performances shot up to #1 on spotify in the Netherlands within hours of her performance.👍🤘
No idea how she does it, but Floor manages to sing directly into your soul. She's the best. No one else is even close to Floor, she's once in a lifetime.
The original singer of Nightwish, Tarja Turunen, who recorded this song with the band, is a classically/opera trained singer, and in this song she used a lot of that technique. Floor has her own style, but still manage to pay nice homage to the original version.

If you want to hear more of her gravelly stuff I suggest Yours Is An Empty Hope from the Wembley Concert. There's also songs from Floor's old side project ReVamp but most of the live footage available is from the Graspop festival which wasn't really the best - audio quality isn't great, Floor had some mic problems and the crowd was deader then a zombie horde

About Floor's dress, I think that the white lines represent the double helix of DNA, you can see it also in the background when they perform "the greatest show on earth" , and of course the cooperation with Richard Dawkins is another hint in that direction.

I would recommend doing the metal band Sabaton as well. Much closer up your alley, because all their songs are war related (any historical battle) including a cinematic trailer. Thanks Dave. I will watch out for your up and coming Nightwish videos with enthusiasm. There have been 3 lead singers over their 23 year career, and each vocalist has her own particular style. The original singer Tarja (pronounced Tarya) was almost entirely operatic who left the band in acrimonious circumstances in 2005.The manner of her departure has divided the fan base as a result. Anette Olzon (a Swede) replaced Tarja in 2007 and recorded 2 albums with them. Her style is accessible but much poppier, even further dividing the fans. She left mid-tour in 2012 under a cloud, and was replaced by Floor. She and Troy Donockley (a session musician who recorded an a number of NW tracks) joined them 'officially' in 2013. Troy is a multi-instrumentalist from Cumbria, who has an excellent sense of humour. He also records with Tuomas and Johanna (Tuomas' wife) on a project called 'Auri'. Their music is available to listen/view on TH-cam. Floor has her own career to follow including After Forever and Northward. My favourite work of hers is with 'Ayreon' (a fellow Dutch musician akin to our own Mike Oldfield) who has recorded numerous albums where Floor has contributed, along with many others. You are now entering a rabbit-hole which will take you to many new artists who all seem to collaborate with each other. Enjoy the ride!! Kev

jos niikseen: If your comment was for me: I know that, that these are both originally Tarja Songs. I'm a Nightwish Fan for about 14-15 Years now. For me, there are almost non Tarja Songs, where I find Floor better. The only song I found so far and could say "I like Floors version better" is "Ghost Love Score". With every other song, I either find Tarja better or it's a draw. Comparing Anette and Floor are much easier for me. 😀

Hey guys if you want to appreciate her operatic ability try the duet she did on the Dutch TV show Beste Zangers (Best Singers) with the opera singer and her idol Henk Poort it was highly hyped and well lets just say you are in for a real treat (th-cam.com/video/plCScjvDOJM/w-d-xo.html). You likely won't be able to do a reaction as it is blocked but you owe it to yourselves to hear perfection at least once in your life!!! Here a great rendition done with that Floor spin as always, LIVE she is amazing and if you want to hear the original singer Tarja (classical trained operatic vocalist) try her LIVE version (th-cam.com/video/E_RRMRXJWxI/w-d-xo.html) it is from 2005 but is still an awesome performance. Great reaction and real appreciation for a gifted vocalist who has worked her a$$ off since joining a metal band in her teens!!

I would recommend doing the metal band Sabaton as well. Much closer up your alley, because all their songs are war related (any historical battle) including a cinematic trailer.
Wouldn't surprise me if Sabaton will collaborate with a Shooter game one day.

Thanks Dave. I will watch out for your up and coming Nightwish videos with enthusiasm. There have been 3 lead singers over their 23 year career, and each vocalist has her own particular style. The original singer Tarja (pronounced Tarya) was almost entirely operatic who left the band in acrimonious circumstances in 2005.The manner of her departure has divided the fan base as a result. Anette Olzon (a Swede) replaced Tarja in 2007 and recorded 2 albums with them. Her style is accessible but much poppier, even further dividing the fans. She left mid-tour in 2012 under a cloud, and was replaced by Floor. She and Troy Donockley (a session musician who recorded an a number of NW tracks) joined them 'officially' in 2013. Troy is a multi-instrumentalist from Cumbria, who has an excellent sense of humour. He also records with Tuomas and Johanna (Tuomas' wife) on a project called 'Auri'. Their music is available to listen/view on TH-cam. Floor has her own career to follow including After Forever and Northward. My favourite work of hers is with 'Ayreon' (a fellow Dutch musician akin to our own Mike Oldfield) who has recorded numerous albums where Floor has contributed, along with many others. You are now entering a rabbit-hole which will take you to many new artists who all seem to collaborate with each other. Enjoy the ride!! Kev

jos niikseen: If your comment was for me: I know that, that these are both originally Tarja Songs. I'm a Nightwish Fan for about 14-15 Years now. For me, there are almost non Tarja Songs, where I find Floor better. The only song I found so far and could say "I like Floors version better" is "Ghost Love Score". With every other song, I either find Tarja better or it's a draw.
Comparing Anette and Floor are much easier for me. 😀
