You're using the weed guard wrong. Don't lock it behind the barb. The wire should lay on top of the barb.

@@TylerNashan I'm right. I had the same issue when I was using weedless hooks for wacky and niko rigging. I moved the wire on top of the barb and my hook % improved.
@@fishingangler4315 that’s the whole point of the weed guard is to guess the hook from weeds.the guard laying on top does nothing if ur going to put it on top just use a normal wacky hook.or just set the hook harder u losing fish is user error

Of course I did genius! That did nothing but lead to more frustration.
Look at a freeze frame @2:58. Wire behind the barb pins the wire at the barb. It wont move at hookset because the wire is pinned.
If you put it above the barb it will allow the wire to move into the hook gap and allow penetration because the wire will move inward and out of the way.
It still provides protection against weeds because the profile of the wire sticks out over the hook and allows it to slide over it.
I use them all the time because where I fish there is tons of sticks and branches underwater and an open hook will get snagged too often.

1- Super glue will hold your skirt in place.
2- Scissors will cut your tentacles to a length that matches your hook size.

Looks like a wacky wall walker , you know , them kids toys were you throw them on a wall & they stick then roll down the wall , I use to have bunches of them things when I was a kid & their almost made that same way , I,ll bet you one of the wacky wall walkers would work like this .

Maybe throw a trailer hook on the original lure and super glue the skirt in place? Would be curious if that would help but you got it to work!

I use to miss hooksets because I hook side ways like you were doing it you have it pull it straight up so the hook will hook,you’re pulling the bait out the mouth

That is a mutant creepy crawler...
Even if they had used 3 of those hooks arranged in their jig like a treble it would of done so much better, I like that it got you bites but that hook is obviously not the correct set up for something of that size.

I would put a dab of super glue on the jig head then slide the plastic up onto it. Another reason you are missing bass is that wire weed guard. I had some wacky hooks with wire weed guards that had me miss multiple fish. I took some pliers cut off the wired weed guard and started landing fish.

I THINK THE ORIGINAL HOOK WASN'T NECESARY THE PROBLEM, I THINK THE PROBLEM IS THE HOOK GUARD. GO AHEAD AND CUT IT OFF AND TRY IT LIKE THAT TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS.
