    the tablet in the video is Pengpod, which after buy for around $100, I received it and realized it was identical to my wife's iView tablet which I paid around $80 for. but the pengpod did come with an SD card, so I guess the price was about the same in the end. They are made by a company called AllWinner. If you search Amazon right now, you can get one for about $50.
    I also have an Achos 700, which is older, but works better. the AllWinnder/iView/Pengpod tablets are really peaces of crap, but about what you would expect for a tablet under $100. They are great for playing around with and can boot off an SDcard or USB drive, so really hard to brick because you can always put a properly formatted SD card in and boot into Android or another Linux distro.
    That being said, these days you can get a 7" Samsung for around $175 new or a Nook for about $130. It's work an extra $30 to $75. Both the Samsung and the Nook are way faster from what I've tested in stores. A good test to test the performance of a tablet or computer is to enable webGL in Chrome on the device and then try some of these webGL test scripts I wrote:

    Next week we'll get Xorg and a basic Desktop running on this tablet without a VNC.

    thanks kris , i knew you'd have looked into this.
    useful tutorial.
    MTP - and copy times - that's what brought me here.
    My phone takes an AGE to copy files from.
    Using ADB - it copied files off - a lot quicker - so if you want to cover that . hey.. go for it - it's not like I'm going to ... I don't have the 'wherewithall' !!
    cheers again

    Hey Kris i think thats a great Video.
    I have one Question: Can I connect my PC to the tablet over a wireless control connection? not with the USB debugging mode

      +Grantel Bart ADB does have a network option which I have not really used. Just do a web search for "adb network". You could also start an SSH server and connect that way. Or a telnet session, but that would not be encrypted. Have fun!

    Do you know how to wipe stock android and install new fresh custom ROM, I have Lenovo Tab S8-50f
    Thanks for the tutorial.

    • @DigitalMetal
      @DigitalMetal  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't have a Lenovo Tab S8-50f, but once you have a custom recover such as TWRP or Clockwork installed it should be pretty simple. Although I don't know what ROM you want o run on it. I just quickly Googled it and doesn't look like anyone as worked on Cyanogenmod for that device yet.

    Please help - by installing ROM I get message: failed to mount '/cust' invalid argument
    how to WRITE/MOUNT this directory?

    • @DigitalMetal
      @DigitalMetal  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know how much help I'll be. I really only know the devices I have.
      But,
      what phone/tablet is it?
      What ROM is it?
      What recover recovery are you using (TWRP/Clockwork)?
      Probably best to ask the people who made the ROM.

    • @dimitrious19
      @dimitrious19 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      installed yesterday through
      fastboot flash cust cust.img (wich I found lucky in the stock ROM!!!)
      device is Xiaomi MI5 - another problem I count is missing ROM space - instead of 64GB I see only 52 available and only 50 usable - do you have a link how to fix it?
      thanks!
