If he was the presenter that just did things like maintenance, or how to safely commute, he wouldn't necessarily be getting major gains. Reminds me of the trainings we did in athletics but this one has science behind it, we did on the “feel” of the coach.
15x400m on time(required to do under 60s) with 200m recovery jogs between sessions(one day we were told to do 100m recovery jogs, cause the coach felt like it) - cramps or vomiting pretty much guaranteed. After 3 sessions you were already basically dead

    • @tristanheinicke8698

Woah woah you were doing 15x400 under 60s on 200m rest?!? That's like 3:58 mile material!

    • @aliancemd
      @aliancemd 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

@@tristanheinicke8698 Don't know about "miles". I was mostly a sprinter - I wouldn't be able to maintain that speed over a "mile". My regular time for 400m, as a kid, was 52.4s, so doing ~58s wasn't extremely hard, just the insufficient rest, which basically guaranteed cramps, if not at the end of the training session, than after it.

Fantastic effort Chief. Looked incredibly tough but, as you point out, it’s all about building fitness and performance over time. So now to the video where you nail yourself to the cross for an entire week! It’s probably impossible for most mortals to comprehend just how fit the pros are. Which is why the Armchair Critic was invented 😂

Great effort, sounds very tough. The pros really go all in to optimise performance. The glory must be great but working so hard must be very draining. I think somebody said they average 25mph for 100 miles, it’s crazy.
I’d be interested to compare Ollie’s current ftp with what some of GCN’s pros had at their peak.
For amateur riders I think it’s important to strike the balance between getting fitter and just enjoying rides. We all want to be fit but it’s boring and stressful if every ride is measured

Taking your jokey comment seriously: they have no shops or dealers for casual customers to see their product in and no shop staff to "push" the product towards customers. So they need every little bit of marketing they can get (including getting GCN to stand in front of them as often as possible).
On the other hand, show me a bike frame (other than a custom paint job) that doesn't have the brand name front and centre (and left and right). I'm in no doubt that I ride a Scott.

For your next trip to France Ollie, the "e" should sound more like the second "e" in "effervescent", not the first one. Might not be the best example English word with both sounds in it, because I am not a linguist.

Interesting that the over under intervals were followed by zone 2 rather than following zone 2 .

I think your beard grew about an inch throughout that training ride. 🎉

Ollie has to be the only person I’ve heard describe over unders as “lovely stuff”; I swear at, not by, at, over unders.

I assume this means if Jonas isn't ready then they'll be picking up Ollie as the leader?

Tignes is a dead end ski station and the full climb it sits upon (Col D'Iseran) is currently still closed due to snow so no point in them going up it unless they have business. The Petit Bernard is a pass into Italy so again unless you are planning on crossing the broder for a reason not much point to go up it.

    *not the hardest, Ollie!
    For sure the most important!
The hardest will ever be the Giro!

I like it when people only mention the altitude once they actually get up there, otherwise everyone's immune and it's no big deal 🤣

There was a speck of dust right in the middle of the frame on some of your shots.
