  • The riding in Campbell River is all-time, and those incredible trails made me realize that maybe the 'new school'-style of enduro riding I've been getting used to is inadvertently having me miss out on the full mountain biking experience. Do you prefer to winch up the road and hammer the downhills? Are we heading in the right direction as a sport? Can climbing be fun? Let me know what you think down in the comments.

Climbing is part of the game and should not be isolated to climbing boring fire roads. We have one very long trail (46 km) here that goes up and down constantly. As you stated, you are never in the right gear for that. But it's really fun and quite a challenge to make the whole trip in less than three hours.

Don't want to be a dick but I don't know what is ''new school style of enduro'', I mean, it seems you discovered .. trail riding ? Trails looks really good in this video actually.

Blue shirt is a beast but he knows the trail . Climbing is he biggest part of my game and the technical part is fun to do and watch. When your able to clear it staying on the bike brings great satisfaction . Everybody can go down hill but climbing especially the tech stuff is amazing to watch because most know how brutal it is and many cant do it because its just to hard . It maybe a limited crowd who would like to watch it because its not part of their game . Everybody looks to what there good at and most times thats what they like to watch .

As one of the guys that's up on Radar nearly every day, I'm glad you enjoyed the trails. We have a (very) small group of dedicated guys that make that network possible, and it's a labour of love, for sure. Definitely one of the draws to that network is the challenging climbs, there's always a punchy section waiting to catch you out if you're not on your game! Let us know if you're coming to town again, and we'll show you some of the other less-known trails.

I could not agree more - gobbling up punchy climbs extends the ride and adds a whole new element of fun/skill. another fantastic video Loam Ranger - love your content!

I find that all aspects of mountain biking are important to keep things interesting and maybe even a little spicy 🌶!
XC, Trail, Enduro, Downhill...all awesome and sometimes I choose one over the other. Chunky, rocky, rooty, flowy, jumpy, bermy - yes please! Climbing- fire road, techy single track, shuttle, chairlift...its all good depending on month, week, day, mood etc! Do all of the above on a different bike -hardtail, plus, fatty...more opportunity for even mor fun. Exploring high alpine maybe desert and even bikepacking are other ways to enjoy biking!
In the end -bikes are awesome❗️

Mountain biking consists of many many challenges and climbing is one of those challenges. Personally I want to be the rider that is the complete package...that's my goal...will I ever get there...haha...probably not but I'm always striving to improve every ride. Great video...now that's a mountain bike trail! Cheers!

Climbing is it's own challenge. Timing your shifts correctly and keeping momentum. Picking your way through a really technical section. I don't have access to lifts so you earn your downs. Just the way it should be

In the beginner mountain biker series can you go over shifting? I’m just starting out and ride a lot of trails that go up and down a lot rather than just a fire road climb and then a descent and sometimes find myself in a not optimal gear, especially if a climb gets steep fast. Even going over the placement of the shifter on your bars would be helpful because I have yet to see a video that covers that

It's tough for 4 guys doing all the trail work on volunteer time, with no support, to keep all the brush cut back on all the trails. It grows like mad on the Island, and it's tough to do much brushing during the head of summer because the wasps are nasty! We're working on it!! Haha

Climbing is alright, long climbs, short climbs, steep climbs, techy climbs, but what really annoys me, is when there is a climb in the middle of the trail. It just kills the flow.
