Good point they don’t explicitly state: blaming each other and holding grudges hurts your survival chances. Instead of pointing the finger and saying “you left the sack on the ground” or “you lost the ember”, they owned up to their own mistakes. It seems inconsequential, but surviving requires teamwork, and you’re less inclined to work with someone if you’re blaming them.
Own your mistake, learn from it, and have a plan ready for the morning.

Let's be honest here this is on Joe. Cody was just being humble. I usually don't side with Cody but you can't put this on Cody. Joe effed this up. I respect Cody for not rubbing salt in the wound but if Joe hadn't gotten their stuff wet Cody dropping the ember wouldn't even be relevant.

@@Mr_Daddy19801000%. But that’s not the conversation to have in the middle of trying to survive. It’s a point I wish they’d explicitly talk about, because in a high stress survival situation, it can be way too easy to start fighting, which can get you killed in this situation.

Cody’s survival training is from a non combative, civilian type foundation, Joe’s is entirely from a combat - theatre of war type foundation with training from the highest levels of Special Operations in the US Military. If you saw who & what we dealt with training & operating with Afghan military units & Afghan civilians you would understand why Joe is the way he is. Both are fantastic at their set of skills, both should be applauded for their skills & actions on this show.

Cody redefined what fire skills mean to me.
I laugh that I couldn't start a fire with a bic lighter in wet conditions.
Now, I can get a fire in the rain.
Different planet as far as skill set.

Plenty of time during the daytime to find dry kindling or make char cloth at the previous location. I personally wouldn’t have given up after 2-4 failed attempts at creating fire. You sow what you reap!

Ive worked in some of the coldest environments in the world and Cody doing those squats to stay warm, that makes a huge difference. My work is physical and ill be sweating in -30° then go in to lunch and chill out for 30 minutes and when we go back to work outside it will be the same temperature but I'll be absolutely freezing because i haven't been moving and burning those calories that are warming my body up. After 15 minutes I'm warm as can be. Hands might be cold because im gripping cold steel, face may be cold because it's not totally covered, but other than that the physical exertion is enough to keep my core nice and warm.
