I’ve been bending the same rod dogs using a rather primitive method. Then I found the bob Custer trap bender for about 20 bucks sure makes bending easy
Nice video! Tip for those that wax. Just use bowstring wax on dog and underpan then you can adjust tension without having to wax entire trap until you are ready.
@@toddstrohecker I've give it try this year, never dipped my land traps. I'll go with the Formula One I've tried a couple gas based dips on my water traps, wasn't thrilled with the results.
Formula One is far from perfect, but is the best available currently IMO if one does not want to dye and wax. Some guys do not like the fact that some rust shows under the dip. I can assure you that this not effect performance in the field. Nothing is prettier than a black dyed and waxed trap. But Formula One catches canines and allows a trap to “patina” which you won’t get with paint.
Neat dog bending tool
Great insights from one of the most knowledgeable trappers out there.

When you dye and wax them they are lubricated well, caught a fox a couple days ago with one of them.
I've never tried Formula One before, does it leave a tacky residue like some of the other dips? Would late summer be the best time to use it?
No...not tacky at all. More like a rubbery latex feel

@@toddstrohecker if you have high humidity , your traps tend to come out gummy, the F1 does not cure completely
