Yes and to the people in head office who insist on staff repeating the customer's first name at least 3 times during a call when designing the call script and call monitoring forms.

This is amazing. It's fucking brilliant how real this is. I've never seen any other sketch ever talk about this particular thing. That's what makes me love this sketch even more.
I think there's a difficult and fine line between trying too much and being a weirdo-awkward-creep. I could stop trying to be friendly and kind and respond appropriately to people at work, or I could stop giving a single about their views on me, eventually earning me a reputation of a total weirdo and getting me fired. I prefer staying employed and generally very well-liked.
The irony is that Mitchell's character has the real people skills because he assertively tells it like it is and so actually helps the Webb-guy. Even though it's a bit confrontational, it's still said without rancour, with a cherry-on-top-agree-to-go-their-separate-ways ending.
The sad part, sometimes, is some people genuinely want to be better at interactions but they cross the line into fakeness. And when they get harshly called out for it, the ending here is similar except that they're discouraged from trying to improve.
It's worse when they hug you and you barely know them. I barely even hug my friends and family. I usually just give a half hug when I'm not feeling so huggy just so I dom't hurt their feelings. I'm only really comfortable with hugs that I initiate. I've had 2 practically strangers in my life hug me and I froze completely. I just felt scared in the hug.
@Ghost Rider oz Excuse me for not understanding why people want to be hugged by strangers. Do excuse me for not fitting into your narrative of social and normal. Do excuse me having personal boundaries and not liking when they are crossed. Yeah, I'm fine with being weird. That's a compliment. so thanks.
@Ghost Rider oz Oh piss off and stand on your own. you're just an ignorant twat. I was being sarcastic, you idiot. And I say that I'm uncomfortable with personal space being invaded and your immediate conclusion is childhood molestation? what's wrong with you? Most 'normal' people as you put it would leave it as 'she's weird' and not feel the overwhelming urge to point it out like a dick.
Ahaha. This is precisely how I feel about some people who are held up as paragons of social interaction. I can see how fake it is from a mile away and I'm always amazed that other people can't.
I think some people see it as 'charisma'. Maybe they're all aspiring to behave the same way, but haven't got the language down yet, so they look up to this person's 'confidence'. Then if you say "doesn't that person seem a bit fake to you?", everybody glares at you and thinks you're just jealous because that other person is so much better at people skills than you. So your only option when other people praise this individual is to agree and say "yes, they're so friendly and charasmatic!", just so you don't come across as bitter. Sigh.
Love this comment and completely agree. Most people prefer to be lead rather than stand out. They prefer to be part of the crowd and latch on to anyone who even vaguely demonstrates control. Like you, it just seems so obvious to me that certain people are merely acting the part and I’m baffled how people seem to fall for the obvious charade.
