I can't imagine why you would get death threats. I watch your channel and get inspired. How someone could watch you and get angry is incomprehensible. I'm one of those who at 62 years old recently went on my first ever overnight backpacking trips and you are one the big inspirations for that. You and Taylor are like my heroes!

Love your channel. No need to apologize for the Florida Trail exit. You seemed confused by not necessarily knowing what you should do, and you kept things on the low. That's exactly what you should have done. That shows maturity.

Threatening someone’s life with a death threat is a federal offense. Kelly be safe out there and most of all have a great 2024.

    Happy new year Kelly!
I'm so sorry you had to go thru that. Death threats are some serious stuff, and scary! And honestly, none of our business if you don't want to or can't share the details for any reason at all. Of course others here have a different opinion about that but they're just full of themselves. What they seem to forget is that TH-camrs choose to share a small portion of what goes on in their lives, and that's it. The rest is none of the viewers' business.
Be safe! I know you're not called Nine Lives for nuthin', but you're down a couple already 😉
Looking forward to whatever you choose to share in 2024. ❤

bike packing. You are in Arkansas, get to Bentonville and try some bikes on their trails. If you don’t know, Bentonville is the community bike center of the United States; it is incredible. A couple of days there would give you a lot of insight.

In 1975 When I was 18, I hitchhiked from New York to Georgia to hike the Appalachian trail. No tent and no water filter, and a very cheap backpack from k mart. I only made hiking to New Hampshire . Lots of mistakes but a great experience.
Having done many ultra marathons . If you ever do a 50k or 50 miler . In my opinion having done races all over the US, The best j ultra races are in the Pacific Northwest in Oregon , Washington, and British Columbia,

Kelly, you do not owe any of us an explanation of why you left the Florida trail. I'm sure some like me were concerned about you and your safety. The others are haters and this platform is a haters dream. Hiding behind the web is fun for haters so just ignore them and you do what you need to do to keep safe. I've been wanting to ask about James but figured we would eventually find out and thanks for that update. I enjoy your videos and look forward to your future hikes and vlogs. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us and you keep being the great person you are and life will sort itself out. Hoping for the CDT :)

Kelly Hays, when you mentioned that the Ouachita National Recreation Trail was on your "list" that just really put a smile on my face! I do love that trail and recently completed it via section hiking. I know you've got a big list of trails that you want to hike, but I'll be watching extra closely when you hit our Arkansas gems :)

77 yr old Arkie here. My circle of friends began to shrink shortly after high school and even more so after college and then accelerated after leaving the location work environment. So solo becomes your reality. As a result, I’ve found a certain solace in being out in the back country alone. I’m much more aware and observant of my surroundings. As far as threats, most my friends with channels delay post. They post their adventures 6-8 weeks after the fact. I even have some that complete the whole hike or trip and then post it. Meanwhile they’re off on completely different projects while posting the past adventure in real time. Best to you. I live in NC now but miss North Arkansas a lot.

Great video. I have to say I have enjoyed your videos since the beginning when you were putting your gear together for the AT hike. I loved seeing all the Florida hikes, so new to me. I live north of Lake Huron. My favorite hike has been around the Sleeping Giant on Lake Superior but it is better done off season to avoid the crowds. I am 74 years of age. My procedure annually has been to bike 20 kilometers north out of town (I live in an isolated bush community, a retired uranium mining town) and then stash my bike in the bush and hike north on a faint trail for an hour to a good sized lake where I keep my canoe and then paddle to my tent site where it's rare to see other people. Best wishes to all your future endeavors.

Another great video that answered a lot of questions about your upcoming trips and wanted trips. I have done a few big adventures in my life, but you totally blow me away at the things you accomplish. I'll turn 71 next month but your videos continue to inspire me. Have you ever considered wilderness canoe tripping? Although I love the Appalachian Trail because of my thru hike and backpacking in general, I have a little over 27,000 canoeing miles under my belt and absolutely love it. You should try that sometime. It's a lot like luxurious backpacking because you can still be in pure wilderness, but nothing is carried on your back, it's in the canoe so you can take better food, a larger tent AND tarp, a chair, etc.
I can't wait to see where and what you will be doing in 2024. Your videos are always high quality.
Hike safe, Hike strong, Have fun!

First off Kelly I have been a subscriber of yours for some time now. Second thing welcome home to our beautiful Ozarks. I am from South Western Mo. and I work in NWA. I have been to many of the places in your videos. I also worked in Fl back about 24 yrs ago and have been to many of the same places on my days off. I really hate that you had to deal with a death threat. I am glad everything turned out just fine in the end. What allot of people dont realize is even grown men have had threats or even physical harrasment while on trails or through social media. Im 53 now and I still get out. I use to do all my hikes, float trips and bicycle tours alone. Eventually I got married and had kids. As they grew I started them young enjoying the outdoors. My daughter was only three years old when I took her floating in my kayak for the first time. We floated from Table Rock dam in Branson Mo to her grandfathers house on Taneycomo Lake. She is now 26 and married but her and my son still hike and kayak to this day. My son and I still do allot of camping, kayaking, biking and hiking together. He is 23 but still lives at home. My wife is not as adventurous but she does do some small local hikes with me down to Arkansas to see waterfalls during rainy season. Your videos keep me going and inspired.
Just a little side note, my uncle took me on a section of the John Murr Trail back in the mid 80's. You will not regret it if you get to go. Be safe out there young lady and thanks for sharing your adventures with us. The best thing I told my wife before I married her was ,Dont ever tell me I cant do the outdoor activities I love doing. I also told her you are always invited to go with me anytime. Like I said she is not that adventurous but she has never told me I couldn't. I also told her I wont ask you permission but I will let you know my plans and time periods. This has worked for both of us. I balance my time with her and my adventures. She likes being a home body so it works well. She of course feels allot better that most of my trips are with my son, or friends from work. I still get out on my own but I am aware of everything going on around me. Again welcome home.

Kelly you have nothing to feel bad about. The PCT is becoming impossible to finish, with the heavy snowfall in the Sierra's and the fires in the north. As far as the Florida trail, always take care of yourself. What I liked about your reaction to both setbacks is you found something else to fill the time and took us along for the ride. I went back to Brice canyon because of your video, I went there years ago and did not give it the attention it deserves. I always enjoy your videos, thank you for the effort you put into them. As far as your hiking alone or anyone for that matter, I think it's better to have a hiking partner or two to hike with for safeties sake. Not only for protection but just in case you get hurt. I'm sorry to hear that this has happened to you but I hope you'll continue to hike and film. I really love your videos and always gain something from them. You're a gifted young lady. Totally hear you on the solo travel. If you wait for other people, you'll never go. I do solo motorcycle trips all over the country. Some of my friends can't fathom doing that. I say I'm on a modern, reliable, Japanese motorcycle with a cell phone in my pocket and can defend myself, so why would I worry about riding through the rural United States when they have no problem going out to the bars at night in downtown Chicago, NYC, Memphis, etc.? Friends either don't have enough vacation time, not enough stamina, are too married, too hung over, or not of the right mindset to deal with things like weather, slight discomfort, or unexpected delays. And that's assuming they even ride. So why sit around until I'm 70 hoping someone shows up? I've met all sorts of interesting travelers and riders by just going out doing it.

I decided a while a go that I'm not going to sit around and wait for someone. It is enjoyable having someone to share an experience with. But, it is enjoyable solo as well. Not going to spend my life waiting on others. After leaving the Army, I thru hiked the PCT solo. 2A? That might be an option. I know it's not for everyone but... ur videos are the best can't wait for those Arkansas ones. Spent a bit of time there.

I live in MN and have done small sections of the SHT. I plan to do it all at some point, but have been waiting for a well known vlogger to hike it. I know there are already plenty of videos on You Tube about others thru hikes but I can't wait to see it through your eyes, Dixie, or Darwin. I am pumped to hear that it is on your list!!!

Thanks for this video. I have enjoyed your videos in the past. I wanted to hike the AT but now my health prevents me from that. I have found out that just because you are in great shape and very low risk for strokes and heart attack that they can still happen to you so do what you enjoy while you can. Good luck in the future and I will be watching.

While I know they are hard to coordinate due to geographic and work/family obligations, I always enjoy crossover hiker videos- even if it's just a day or weekend hike with another youtuber that the algorithm categorizes as someone we might all be interested in- it's alot of fun to see two different channels making their version of content with the other hiker.

Kelly, To those that got mad at you for leaving the Florida Trail they were just nosy and want to know all your life. I for one prayed for you at that time because I knew it had to be bad for you to leave something you so enjoyed. Always stay safe. Happy Hiking 🏔️⛺️

So weird a through hiker like you has drama? Ive had haters too so I get it.
Ive traveled around the world and the one thing I always do is to never post details where I sleep or live on the same day I am there. I f I go on vacation I post shorts but the full videos dont get posted until I am already back home.

Crazy to hear about the FT threat you had to deal with. Glad you and the rest of the crew were ok after that.
I tried the Foothill trail last year, but had to pull off due to dehydration and a forest fire. I’ll knock it out this year, so maybe I’ll see you there along with on the Benton MacKaye. Great to hear you are getting out there for some more Thru Hikes!

I had been following the FT videos and when you got off I knew it was something serious, but a death threat was no where in my mind. There are evil people in this world and you did what was right to think of your safety and step off trail. I hate you had to go through it, but you came back and finished and continued your life not being afraid of others. That is inspiration to others to get out there and enjoy life. Cant wait for your 2024 content, and I vote for JMT hike!

I don't remember if I saw you at Trail Days in 19 or 22, but you might remember me as the short bald old shaman dude that opened the fire ceremony. I'm heading back to the AT the second week of March and plan to car hop the entire trail every year from now on as long as I'm physically able. Give me a holler if ya ever need a lift. I live next door near Tulsa.

Heads up on the Sheltowee Trace trail. I was almost attacked by a white German Shepherd. Bear spray is a must. A lot of very aggressive dogs from Red River Gorge to 49er’s truck stop

I can't believe anyone would threaten you like that. You seem to be pretty cool in my book. I've been wanting to do eagle Rock loop for a while, but my hubby wants me to have someone with me and I still haven't been able to do buffalo River yet. I was going to, but my son, on his first backpacking trip, wanted to do center point trail instead. After we did the goat trail, we went back, set up camp, ate..... Then My son decided that he wanted to go 😂 so we hiked all the way back up that rocky mountain. We drove into eureka and stayed the night there. So maybe this year I'll get these two trails in. Lol. Thanks for sharing your adventures. Stay safe.

I am impressed with your video's. I am a retired 747 Cargo Captain but I love getting into nature and camping. Years ago in yellerstone national park the x and I were camping and I was in the Army driving a winnebago and a big bear a Grizzly ripped my entrance door off the camper and I had to dispatch him. I got yelled at by everyone for protecting us and I got Arrested went to Jail saw the judge he asked why I had a weapon in the park. I said it was assigned to me 24/7 and we got attacked by a huge grizzly and I did not have my rocket launcher with me. The Bear totaled the camper and the area we were camping in was a safe area Fenced and Hot Wired with signs everywhere and a second fence to keep you away from the electric fence. That Grizzly was mad he broke through all of it. The Park Service 6 months later paid the Insurance Company back plus I have a Lifetime Park and Camping pass. Pardon my spelling. Be safe. UR Video's are good.

Camino del Norte is amazing. I've done three Caminos and it's probably my favorite, but the Primitivo is also great too. I know you like the beach so definitely the Norte is the trail for you, there's one or more beautiful beaches to lounge at every day.
P.S. Have fun on the Colorado Trail this year ;)
