  • After a San Diego resident said a city trash truck destroyed his trash container, he turned to Team 10 to get answers about who is responsible for paying for a replacement.

I asked my collector why my bins were being crushed. He told me, its because your bins are against the curb between vehicles and we cannot reach them, similar to what is happening in this video; truck too far away from bin... I said, "it says on the lid to place next to curb." His response, yeah, we hate that, if its next to curb between vehicles, we have to make multiple grabs to pull the bin away from the curb, which may crush and crack the bin." My bins are now 5-6' away from the curb; problem solved. I get a nice waive from my collector, who is a really nice guy, everyone is happy. Never hurts to ask.

They started putting notes on his can because he complained. I see broken cans all the time with no notes stuck to them.

New trucks are coming into service that have a blue stripe which use a different arm design that seems a bit gentler on the bins. These trucks are also going to be used for yard/green/food waste. Residents will be getting new bins starting in January for Wednesday collection days. These new bins will also be shared for yard waste so you will need to stop using your own container for that service. Bins will be handed out for months on end finishing up with Tuesday service.

If the service damages or destroys cans make them pay for them.

Along with 50% of other san diegans with broken bins. I talked to a seller of trash trucks and he let me know its the truck operators and the adjustable clamp force that breaks the bins. Also we pay for trash abc10 don’t insult us property tax payers with a BS comment like that.

Us San Diego City home homeowners don’t pay for trash I never knew it was only residence of the city. I have family in national city, Chula Vista and lakeside & they all have to pay a fee every month for trash

Unless something’s changed the Black ones are replaced for free (trade out) but you need to pay to replace the Blue Recycle Bins. It was that way like 6-7 years ago in San Diego.

You got it wrong, it is the black ones that you have to pay for but blue bins are free.

I live in small town central Cal. Garbage collector broke off our lid. We got a replacement in a couple days. Don’t let the over populated cesspools like LA, San Francisco, San Diego, and Sacramento define California.

Start taking your own trash to the dump wait in line for hours . Not all cans will make it quit crying.
