My dad's aunt became pregnant at around 17 after she slept with the son of some rich guy she had been working for. This was mid 30's Romania so abortion was very much illegal. Her grandmother ended up doing one of those in-house secret abortions with a long metal probe/hose like thingy. He told her that it was for the best and that not only the son was never going to marry lower class but nobody was going to marry her with a bastard child anyway (which was true for those times). The abortion was a success but later on she got married but could never conceive again.

Giving birth is also aggressive and can cause complications and in some cases even death. Then there is raising the child. It's not some easy thing. To some people who have no choice or clearly have mental issues or have a terrible home situation a child can feel like shackles and not some gift.

Abortion wasn't seen as a religious nor political issue for majority of America's history. It wasn't until the late 1890's it started to become political and laws and restrictions were put in place. It wasn't until roe v wade that it became a big issue for evangelicals polls taken in the late 1960's and early 1970's showed many in favor in cases such as life of the mother, mental illness and cases of rape. I respect everyone and there right to have their own personal beliefs but to to pass laws that control other peoples bodies based on their religious beliefs. Your religious views should not force another person to give birth, just like a Jehovah's Witness shouldn't have to power to pass laws banning blood transfusions based on their religious beliefs. This is why religion has no place in politics

Because pregnancy costs a lot of money. You have to take vitamins, pay for ultrasounds and other doctors appointments, and then pay for your hospital stay, the actual dollar price of giving birth, and the other medicines and medical procedures you may need. Pregnancy is not cheap.

Most children get bounced through the foster system for years before they find a permanent home, and many don't find one at all. Are you aware that Christianity has changed its opinion on abortion a number of times in it's history? The Catholic Church only thought it was murder after ensoulment which the believed took place after quickening which takes place around 18 weeks into a pregnancy. They did not believe that life began at conception because it was only after the quickening the fetus gained a soul. This view lasted for until Pope Pius IX reversed the decision yet again in 1869 and made abortion after conception a sin.
As for the Bible the Bible makes clear that a fetus does not have the status of a human life.Exodus 21:22-25 clearly states if one causes a miscarriage the punishment is a fine if the woman loses her life then to punishment is that of a lost life. It clearly sees the woman a having a human life but not the pregnancy.
Judaism also allows abortion because it sees the life as the most important. The same goes for Islam which is also an abrahamic religion and worships the same god as Christianity.
In colonial America their were no laws against abortion. Abortion wasn't seen as a religious nor political issue for majority of America's history. It wasn't until the late 1890's it started to become political and laws and restrictions were put in place. It wasn't until roe v wade that it became a big issue for evangelicals polls taken in the late 1960's and early 1970's showed many in favor in cases such as life of the mother, mental illness and cases of rape.
I respect everyone and there right to have their own personal beliefs but to to pass laws that control other peoples bodies based on their religious beliefs. Your religious views should not force another person to give birth, just like a Jehovah's Witness shouldn't have to power to pass laws banning blood transfusions based on their religious beliefs.
This is why religion has no place in politics

Because pregnancy costs a lot of money. You have to take vitamins, pay for ultrasounds and other doctors appointments, and then pay for your hospital stay, the actual dollar price of giving birth, and the other medicines and medical procedures you may need. Pregnancy is not cheap.

Do you have ANY idea how hard that is? Pregnancy is neither cheap nor easy, and giving away your child is traumatizing. I have a cousin who gave up her baby 15 years ago and to this day she is haunted by it.
Not to mention that adoption isn't a better option. Most children get bounced through the foster system for years before they find a permanent home, and many don't find one at all.
Not to mention that it would be unthinkable for a married couple in the 1950s to give up a child for adoption. That's the kind of thing only teenage mothers did.
