From the beginning, I've appreciated your honest approach to documenting this hobby. You have clearly extended that same openness to discussing your health. So happy to see you are recovering, and it's inspiring how you're using your platform to spread such an important message. Here's hoping both you and the watches keep ticking for a long time!
Great to see you back at the bench Mike ! As a GP I’m constantly pushing men to get the PSA test. Glad your op went well. Best wishes from Australia 🇦🇺
Thanks George. Not sure I knew if you were a GP or not now. You have given me some good advice on PM and I can only thank you for that. My mental health took a beating but is now slowly recovering.
Great to see you back. Hopefully the results are good. Yearly checkups are a must especially aver 40+. Whishing you all the best and hoping for a speedy recovery.
Reminds me of an old saying I had to go through... “None Of Us Gets Out Of Here Alive” nobody thinks to much about that phrase until you think your time is short. Great to hear you beat it.
It's great you're getting back to normal , good luck with the test results. My grandfather died of prostate cancer so my Dad asked for a psa and like you he had his prostate removed. Twenty years later he is still clear 👍 . Well done Vario, that's a lovely watch.
Dear Mike!! So happy that you back on the bench again and the life goes on!!!💪👏🏻🌹🍀 thanks for your honesty and natural space in youtube, your channel for me is a sweet in the life, and learn always from you the passion for that tiny beauties from the past. A hug from Saudi Arabia!!!!
All my very best wishes for a full and speedy recovery, Mike. I very rarely comment on anything, but I owe you an enormous debt for the volumes you have taught me in this captivating hobby. I am a poor bodger compared to your elevated skills, but I have improved massively due to your kind postings. Like you, I am no longer in my twenties and cancer has taken several relatives. So I am very keen to get "the finger" (oh!) and PSA at regular intervals. This is not fussy, paranoid or weak. It's a practical duty we owe those who care for us. Well done, Mike! All the very best, David
Thank you David. Nice to hear my videos are appreciated and help others as this is why I make them. All skills improve with practice . Most of my videos now on repair are of movements I have never worked on so each is an adventure of its own.
Fingers very firmly crossed for your margins! I was diagnosed with kidney cancer at Christmas (I'm in my 30's, turned out to be a genetic mutation) after an incidental find on a scan, and had a partial nephrectomy (tumour removed from my left kidney) with the davinci robot, via keyhole. The surgeon (nhs) fitted me in within 31 days of being refered to him, so I was relieved, but also just terrified to my core. No-one knows.. No matter how you try to explain, it's just not something you can fully understand until you have been through it. It's your entire existence. One minute things are running along smoothly and you're planning your future and thinking about mortgages and kids and watches and all the little daily things, and then bam, you're in a void, seeing a world without you. It really changes you, and it can be very difficult for people around you to change with you. Anyway, I had the surgery and went through recovery (bit brutal!) and I'm just waiting on my follow up MRI results at the moment. Mine was caught pretty early, and grade 3, but T1-A. Margins weren't perfect, which just adds to the 'what if'.. But fingers crossed the MRI gives me the all clear. I'm only 6 months further down the line, but I can tell you that it gets better, mentally. You learn to accept the new normal, and the fear and anger fade a little bit. I started to get a little bit bitter and short tempered (and still am, really), and I have to check myself and be as stoic and calm as I can. Everyone has to find their own way there I suppose, but it does get better. I've had the worst 2 years of my life. My mother died, several friends died, and blah blah. It doesn't matter.. We don't get to surrender!!! Never! Good luck mate :)
I've been subscribed to Vario emails for a while now and I keep toying with which model I might buy, procrastinating over the qualities of each. But hearing of Ivan's simple generosity will tip me over the edge, I'm going to choose one and that's that! Such warm-hearted gestures deserve something in return, my money is my response... Keep getting stronger Mike, really appreciate this channel.
Thanks Mike, I'm 54 & have hardly seen my civvie GP since leaving the military seven years ago. You've kicked my arse to go get a medical done & a psa blood test.
So good to see you Mike , this will hopefully give other’s confidence if they have symptoms or just to get a test done. I was 31 super fit and trained most days and got cancer , I’m all good now and always keep check on myself with a blood test once a year. Your doing the right thing getting back to the watches. 👏👊🏻👊🏻
When my twin girls were born I splurged on two of the Vario 1918s. Same design of course but one in steel and one in bronze each with a different dial. Non-identical twin watches to commemorate my non-identical twin girls. So glad you are looking strong and I will send up prayers for you and your family. I really enjoy your work and encourage you to keep doing things that make you happy.
So glad your recovery is going well , love watching your videos Mike, you are a true gentleman open and honest with everything. Regards and best wishes.
Bravo for your courage in sharing, you are probably going to save a few lives with this. You are sounding strong there and looking healthy. Napping regularly keeps the batteries topped off!
I think you have contributed more to many watch enthusiasts on your channel than just repairing servicing watches. Your openness and genuine concerns for others is amazing. Discussing your feelings and fears and the mental side has been uplifting. It is truly amazing seeing the support that has been given by our great watch community. Just shows when you reach out there are so many people that can be there for you. Looking forward to your next upload Mike.
Hi Michael, I'm very happy that your friend is well and that everything went well with your operation! As Ivan said, now it's life that goes on and I'm sure many good things will come for you and your family! I'm a little bit older than you (53) and I recently had my annual checkup and it looks like everything is going well, I just need to do the PSA and I'll do it next week. As for the watch, how beautiful and wonderful, I really like this military style and this Bund bracelet too! Hugs and best wishes! Marcelo
All power to your elbow fella, glade to see you. And I’m 52 and had to ask for a PSA Glade your clearly on the mend. Till the next one stay safe look after you and yours. Your regulars will alway be here. I feel your frustration with the Bull head, but you will prevail in the end I’m sure. As for the trench watch who would not like it ! My Grandfather lost his after the war . And to replace now is out of my League at the moment. Fabulous inscription
Thank you for update with your health. Wishing only the best in your recovery. Nice to know you are slowly getting back to your bench, and enjoying your hobby. Chin up and all the best.
Cheers for the personal update and information, your ability to stay so upbeat is truly admirable! That watch is beautiful! And I can see that style fitting in almost every occasion. Thanks for the heads up and another quality video!
Thanks. I’m hoping it was not too much of a sermon but I felt the need to say it and get the message out. I still need to stay on the watch track with the channel though !
Congrats on the early detection and resolution of the cancer. I had a similar experience and regular annual physical exams and blood tests detected two serious different cancers early before any symptoms. I tell everyone I can to keep up with regular checkups and make sure they include extensive lab work. The military did the regular annual exams on me for thirty years. When I retired it seemed natural to just continue doing them. So glad did.
Man, so glad to hear you are on the mend! You are such a great influence!!! Your videos are a big part of my life and I am glad there will be MANY more to come!!!!! (P.S.: what a bangin' watch! That 1918 is so damn sweeeeet!!!!)
Really happy to see you back at bench Mike but not as happy as you are I can guess. So glad that you are feeling better and sending out a positive message to all and giving hope and information that is so important. Good on you mate looking forward to more of your videos. Take care and thanks for all you do.
What a great video. Thank you. On 3 levels, about your health, about our health, and lastly your well being. Good to hear about the Bullhead cockup. Even better, the Ivan factor. Keep well, keep safe.
I clicked on your video right away - been worrying about you. So pleased that it is looking good for you!!! Keep building your strength and come back soon with an update. All the very best, Maxine. PS That Vario is stunning - what a wonderful gift
Hello Mike. The reason why ı have started to fix watches were because of your seiko maıntanance videos [6309 Caliber] on first maintenance took 11 hours for me to make but thanks to you an your videos ı did the service on that watch 2 years ago. but ı was wondering why you weren't so active. You have inspired me to do this Hobby tho ı enjoy it and earning a little bit money also. hope you get well soon I'll still need simplistic watch service videos and there is many calibers and tips ı need to hear from you. Best wishes from Turkey.
Thanks for making this video I'm 53 and never heard of a PSA test so obviously never asked my GP for one until......now! I have now contacted my GP asking for the appropriate blood test as I have weak pee flow and a few aches and pains. But then I am middle aged now lol. Having never been tested before they can't really refuse to do the test. Sure everything will be fine but like u quite rightly said it's up to us to demand to be tested now and then for these types of things. Love the content you make best regards mate :)
Glad your on the mend I went through this recently psi 9 I was able to be treated by radio therapy Now 0.5. 18 months on,I was very lucky my doctor was on the ball. And we have a great cancer facility local hospital with great staff I celebrate my 76 birthday this Sunday thanks to being tested, So every man reading this get tested
Awesome watch ,,, Amazing inscription and Great health tip !!! I believe I'll get checked at my appointment that's coming up !!! Thank You so much ,,, for all that you do !!!! I've recently gotten into watch repair as a hobby and I've learnt so much from watching you and several others !!! Keep up the good work and keep speaking out !!! Hard heads like me need that extra bit of encouragement !!! Thank you ,,, Russ Corbett
Mike, I’m a great believer that things happen for a reason( though cancer is within all of us but in the most part dormant) you heard that warning about cancer and needing to have the test, this is the result and you are on the mend now and your doing so well, keep your head up and we all love you and what you do with your matter of fact watch restoration. You are an inspiration to all of us.
I'm a new 'irregular' viewer of yours and your videos on the regulation of movements gave me the confidence to perform that procedure on my custom Seiko builds. I'm so sorry to learn that you've been facing health issues. My father went through the same thing and came out fine, at least for now. I'm 52 and I think I should stop dodging... THE EXAM. 😵💫 Best wishes and highest hopes to you, Michael!
Wow have been busy and only just heard the news on this very video. I'm so pleased your health is improving. You have certainly inspired me (and countless others). All the best Mike.
Oh Mike, I was searching the means to reach you but couldn't find one. I was really really worried about your well-being. Today you popped up. May Almighty Lord keep you healthy and prosperous always. Stay blessed. Live and regards from Pakistan.
Wow I'm so sorry to hear about your troubles Mike. I had no idea you'd been rough until I just sat down to watch your latest video expecting to see you making a fue mistakes & eventually end up with a lovely working timepiece. I only viewed the first part of your video before deciding to message you. Its early days as I'm sure you know as far as walking miles up the road, but I'm sure your regain your strength over time as this has been my experience with my wife's health problems. Take care of your self & stay safe young man kindest regards 🍀🍀🇬🇧👍
Wishing you a speedy recovery Mike! Many years ago, when I had a medical issue that I was quite worried about the “what if’s” in the future, a doctor told me to take things “one day at a time”. I have used that mantra all my life And it really does help. Take care and all the best.
Thank you. The one day at a time was recently said to me when I was getting down about the level of incontinence I was having ( will get better or to normal over time) It’s stuck with me since and now I am believing how true advice it is.
Only watched a few of your videos, but wanted to wish you well. I’m sure you’ll be back to your 6-7 miles soon enough. Keep up the positive attitude and keep on ticking my friend!
Overwhelmed by all your comments . Thank you all.
Good to do these PSA once in a while! Do take regular walks to regain your stamina slowly! You do look better now!
Thank you Ivan for your support and such a poignant gift.
@@MyRetroWatches You're most welcomed :)
From the beginning, I've appreciated your honest approach to documenting this hobby. You have clearly extended that same openness to discussing your health. So happy to see you are recovering, and it's inspiring how you're using your platform to spread such an important message. Here's hoping both you and the watches keep ticking for a long time!
Thank you for your kind words David. Will get back making watch content but I wanted to get the health message across .

VARIO are very good. I am now their repair agent in uk for warranty work
Glad to see you back, Mike, and doing well. Stay healthy.
Take you time and get back properly healthy. Great so see you looking so well at this stage of recovery.
So wonderful that you have great news. Life does go on, a beautiful, thoughtful gift from Ivan at Various. Many blessings to you, mate!
Reminds me of an old saying I had to go through... “None Of Us Gets Out Of Here Alive” nobody thinks to much about that phrase until you think your time is short. Great to hear you beat it.
Indeed. It’s only after a scare you appreciate it could all be gone in an instant.
God Bless Mike. So glad you're doing better!
Glad to see it went well; yes, you have to be an advocate for health. Be strong.
It's great you're getting back to normal , good luck with the test results. My grandfather died of prostate cancer so my Dad asked for a psa and like you he had his prostate removed. Twenty years later he is still clear 👍 . Well done Vario, that's a lovely watch.
So glad you’re on the mend. This getting older stuff when the check engine lights come on sure isn’t fun.

What a great idea I am sure @VARIO would love to know this.
So glad your recovery is going well , love watching your videos Mike, you are a true gentleman open and honest with everything.

I think you have contributed more to many watch enthusiasts on your channel than just repairing servicing watches. Your openness and genuine concerns for others is amazing. Hi Mike, great to see you!! Fuck cancer and sending healing love!

Thank you Ray. I entirely agree. I’m taking each day at a time. Actually walked to the shop and back today and was a bit better!
Good to hear your doing well. Best wishes and look forward to your many years to come ! 🍻
Thank you.
Wishing you a speedy recovery Mike! Many years ago, when I had a medical issue that I was quite worried about the “what if’s” in the future, a doctor told me to take things “one day at a time”. I have used that mantra all my life And it really does help. Take care and all the best.
Thank you. The one day at a time was recently said to me when I was getting down about the level of incontinence I was having ( will get better or to normal over time)
It’s stuck with me since and now I am believing how true advice it is.
Only watched a few of your videos, but wanted to wish you well. I’m sure you’ll be back to your 6-7 miles soon enough. Keep up the positive attitude and keep on ticking my friend!
Great to see you back Mike and in good spirits. Thanks to your message I had a PSA test and all clear. “Life goes on!”, 👍
