Jehovah God created humans to live on the earth and to sudue and fulfil it. The angels were created before humans and their place and realm is heaven. Angels are neither male or female, they are sexless. The Bible explains that the spiritual sons of God looked down on the earth and noted that the daughters of man and look they were beautiful so they made for themselves as angels did in those times, fleshly physical bodies and took whatever woman they wanted and lay with them. The angels thereby forsook their natural dwelling place and came to earth without permission and engaged unnatural and perverse sexual intercourse with humans. They were angels and we are humans so they wilfully disobeyed God and joined Satan in rebellion and they like Satan are reserved for destruction in the future. Although I am not the person you asked your questions to, I hope that I have been able to answer it? I have been abible student all my life and I feel it important to share Bible truths with everyone 🙏

I grew up in a partly Catholic, partly Moravian (proto-protestant) household. Both sides were very devout and I grew up in both churches, but I wasn't baptized into either tradition, as they wanted to leave the decision up to me.
I remember this entire topic causing a huge crisis of faith for me. I eventually decided to get baptized at 13 into the Moravian tradition, and was thereafter obligated to read the entire Bible. When I reached Genesis 6 and read about the "Sons of God" coming into the "daughters of man" and producing giants, it caused me to steer off into a rather esoteric new-age ancient-aliens way of thinking. Around 7 years later, reading Michael Heiser's work as well as Enoch cleared a lot of things up for me and slowly steered me back to Christianity.

Excellent summary of the history of the Giants. Two questions: 1: How is it possible for angels to have sexual relations with human women since angels are neither male nor female? Can they transform themselves to have male sex organs? 2. How do we explain the existance of giants at the time of Saul and David (Book of Numbers) if they were destroyed at the time of the flood?

    • @connormcphillips9008

For your first question I assume either God allowed the devils to have more power and take a form that simulates a human male or that God allowed them to use the womens’ bodies to aid them in making a creature that is not of God but would be inherently evil. One possible way they could do that might be to clone the woman and put it in her own womb and then modify the genetics of the clone to be like a giant human.

As for point 1 I think that's best kept for remembrance. For point 2 the Scriptures might be more clear than that
Genesis 6:4 NASB95 - The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, AND ALSO AFTERWARD, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.

@@sleepystar1638 The term bene elohim = sons of god appears in the old testament many times and virtually every single time it refers to supernatural / angelic beings either loyal or in defiance to the creator. Sometimes these beings are even called Elohim (Mighty ones or little g gods). Adam is also called son of God in Genesis because he has no human father but is directly created by God. In the same manner angelic beings are called sons of God in the Old Testament because they are directly created by God. Jesus is the only begotten Son of God though, speaking of the incarnation, born into the world as human, begotten by the Father. That is what the verse is refering to. In the NT born again followers of Jesus after having received the Holy Spirit are also called Sons of God and are in a sense already siblings to Jesus who is the firstborn of this new "family of God" in the world to come. These saints are said in the book of Revelation to rule as kings and priests in the millenium under Jesus as the king of kings. They are called the sons of god even before receiving their changed supernatural body in the same manner Jesus said that the Kingdom of God is already among us even before the resurrection. But in fullness the term Sons of God is fitting for the transformed Saints who have received their supernatural bodies ("oikētērion" - 2Cor 5:2) at the Ressurrection of the Saints and are therefore akin to the angels (Sons of God) who are also clothed in oikētērion (Jude 1:6).

Not sure what you were getting at, but let me say this; after studying much on the topic of the Nephilim, I now believe that dinosaurs were a result of genetic manipulation. Maybe not all, some like the brontosaurus may have been created by God. (A brontosaurus may have been the behemoth in Job.)
Enoch tells how the Nephilim were perverting all of creation. This may explain why so many dinosaurs seem monstrous and bloodthirsty?
      Some associated thoughts:
Would God really have created a Tyrannosaurus rex or an Allosaurus to terrorize mankind?; If ancient genetic manipulation wasn’t possible, why would God warn against mixing different kinds of animals several times in the bible?
Perhaps their evil, corrupt origin is why there are no dinosaurs on the ark or afterwards.

The modern Catholic Church no longer talks about this stuff. Doesn't talk about the End Times. None of it. The Challoner Douay-Reims Bible notes talk about them matter-of-factly....because they were.
Largest, on record, giant skeletons found in North America were both 18 footers. One in West Hickory, PA and the other Austin, TX. Late 1800's, early 1900's.
The Timucua Native American tribe that was discovered by Spanish explorers on Jekyll Island were all 8-9ft tall, including the women! They had Middle Eastern style recurve bows. They had a carved stone altar (that appeared to have been there since ancient times) that they would hack up and sacrifice babies over which the explorers made note of (a practice by the Canaanites, etc) and quickly left in fear (they didn't have enough men) towards Florida where they founded St. Augustine.
"[...Francisco Pizarro and his company] arrived at Puerto Viejo, and to Santa Helena, where they saw a large quantity of bones of giants, that according to their proportion, were 20 palms [approximately 15 ft] tall." ~ Antonio de la Calancha. Augustinian monk & anthropologist. "The Moral Chronical of the Order of Saint Augustine in Peru, 1663"
Supposedly, up to and during the time of Christ, Israel had a "museum" of sorts where they had many giant bones and skeletons on display for those entering the Holy Land (as a testament to the truthfulness of the Biblical Scriptures). I believe Josephus mentions this but I forget on this one.
A great intro book for skeptics on the topic is: "Giants on Record: America's Hidden History, Secrets in the Mounds, and the Smithsonian Files" by Jim Vieira and Hugh Newman

I believe the verse in question is Enoch 7:3 commonly translated close to:
"And they became pregnant, and they bare great giants, whose height was three thousand ells..."
      Alternate rendering:
"And the women became pregnant, and there were born unto them three sorts, the first were great giants, and to the giants were born nephilim, and to the nephilim were born elioud."
Each successive generation being smaller. It's theorized 1st generation were 30-50 ft tall. (There is a medieval historical record find of a giant skeleton in Europe measured at 36ft. The skeleton, being so ancient, quickly disintegrated upon exposure to the fresh air).
2nd generation would be around 18-20ft. (Two largest skeletons on record found in North America were 18 footers. West Hickory, PA and Austin, TX)
3rd generation (Goliath Brothers generation) from 8-15ft. Goliath Brothers, Og, etc

The Book of Enoch makes so much sense and even the verse we know well (Genesis 5:24) is revealing; “Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him” is a very powerful statement!
Also, the Book of Enoch was lost for western Christianity (perhaps on purpose), however it was never lost for Ethiopian Christianity, which has preserved a lot of originality and has preserved to be an genuine and truthful source of information about our distant past. Ethiopian Christianity is true gem: either inside Ethiopian Catholic or Coptic Church!!!

Very interesting topic and an excellent explanation of the Nephilim Dr. Marshall. There is a well known story about a Giant that was discovered by the U.S. military during the Afghanistan campaign known as the Giant of Kandahar. They have even interviewed one of the soldiers that encountered this Giant. This soldier claimed that his unit was sent out to find and locate a unit that went missing. He describes how his unit discovered human bones and military equipment and clothing outside the entrance to a mouth of a particular cave and this Giant runs out of this cave with a shield and a spear and it apparently speared one of the soldiers and was trying to kill the others. He said this Giant was massive and was moving with such great speed and strength that something that big shouldn't be able to move that fast. They eventually killed this Giant by shooting it in the face. He claimed they shot it in the body but it didn't seem to do any damage. Once killed the U.S. military flew out these huge helicopters to scoop this thing up. Apparently they measured this Giant who turned out to be 12 feet tall and weighing around 1200 pounds I believe if I remember correctly. He claims the Smithsonian took the Giant away never to be seen again. This was so that to keep the Darwinian narrative alive. The elites know that the Biblical narrative is real and having proof of the Giants would destroy the Darwinian narrative according to the Christian, historian and archeologist LA Marzulli who is the man that interviews this soldier. The interview is on youtube. Scripture talks about how it will be like in the days of Noah.

One additional consideration could be what blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich tells us from her visions about this event in the book of Genesis.
According to her, basically, this was the result of known, consensual and instrumentalized demonic possession. At first the women were the possessed, then by copulating in state of possession they conceived these so called giants who were born in state of possession. She adds that the giants, although impressive in their physical capabilities given to them by the devil, had nothing that could resemble any wisdom.
This doesn't seem to conflict with what we've been learning from exorcists recently (like fr. Ripperger) on the mechanics of demonic possession. The people back then did a lot of very evil things and became subject to diabolic influence, just like occurs today.

The belief about alien invasion and of human interbreeding with angels is a myth. Jesus said angels do not marry. They don't have flesh and blood and do not posses the power to create flesh or change from angelic body to human body. Only God exclusively has that power.
The Nephilim are the descendants of Cain . The Bible says Adam is a son of God. So the sons of Adam are sons of God.
Cain was not a son of Adam, which is why he is listed in a separate geneaology from Adam. Cain wad the offspring of the adultery between Eve and the erect human like and voluble serpent. Read your Bible carefully.
That is the origin of the Nephelims. Cains race.
Angels do not have blood and sperms and therefore cannot sex or produce any giants. The assertion of angels marrying women is a heathen folktale, which is not based on Scriptures.
In the creation story, we are not told that God put angels on earth unless you are reading that from an apocryphal book or a heathen source. Moses remains the only authentic source for the creation account.
If you are trying to create a classification of angels on earth and in heaven, saying that Jesus only mentioned angels in heaven as the only ones that couldn't have sex, remember he did not say anything about the angels on earth having sex. So let us be silent where he is silent. The Bible reveals that angels are originally meant to be in heaven. However, due to rebellion, Lucifer and his angels were cast down.
In Matthew 25, Jesus spoke of the two categories of angels, namely the Holy angels led by Christ in verse 31, who retain their original estate in loyalty and in verse 41, the Devil and his own angels, who are the rebelious ones.
If you read Revelation 12:7-9, you will find the two categories of angels again. The dragon, which is Lucifer, or Satan is cast down to earth with his angels.
Your belief here is based on folktales rather than inspiration. The Bible was written by men as they were inspired by God. If you deny that there are two separate races of men from Genesis 3 [ Cain and Seth], how do you expect the Bible prophecy in Genesis 3:15 to have fulfilled in Messaiah Jesus?
According to Isaiah 14:12-20, Lucifer is a fallen angel, and so were his angels. Once fallen, Lucifer and his angels are no longer referred to as sons of God and can not fit the description of Genesis 6.
Again, if as the chief of the angel on earth, in the garden of Eden, Lucifer could not create a flesh for himself or transform himself into human flesh in order to cause the fall, how could his cohorts ever have that ability. Your interpretation is a Jehovah Witnesesses false doctrine that you are pushing too hard there. It is bald incoherent interpretation in the face of Scriptures.

I think they definitely read it as being true. St. Irenaeus says in his “On the Apostolic Preaching”, that Genesis 6 is talking about exactly what 1 Enoch says.
He also says this almost in passing as being a common reading. Being so close to St. Polycarp and St. John the Apostle, this suffices for my view.

First, this was extremely well done. I personally believe that St. Peter and St. Jude (and St. Paul) were referencing what they took to be an actual story referencing the watchers. I believe if St. Aquinas and St. Augustine were to have the 1st book of Enoch along with the other reference DSS’s they would also likely come to the same conclusion. It was just a lack of having that reference in their time period that drew them to make a logical conclusion. Thanks for making this Dr. Marshall!

@@arvelote4581 that’s a really good question. I would at least speculate since they were able to procreate these angels were given special permissions to become physical beings. Angels otherwise are pure spirit; like God. These angels may be subject to the ‘free will’ that our realm on earth gives and they were tempted - like we are tempted. We have the ability to be redeemed. Angels also have what’s called morning and evening knowledge and humans are learning beings thus we can be redeemed. Dr. Marshall even said that Enoch prayed for (at least) the offspring of these beings, the giants. It is written in the 1st book of Enoch that St. Michael trembled at the punishment bestowed upon these beings after Gods decision of judgement. Not only were they wicked and evil but they altered the genetics of humans - which appears to be of the utmost importance to God. So a theory could at least be; in order to be a physical being in this realm (with DNA to pass along) - even the watcher angels would be subject to free will and the use of evening knowledge (as written by Aquinas) thus carnal temptation and they fell from Gods grace.

@@sweetmary3233 Angels/demons can't procreate and don't have physical bodies per se but can appear so and even act so to an extent since they have power over matter (as God allows). The story perhaps refers to a sex ritual where the demons are so involved and so possessing the human souls involved that you could say the offspring were also possessed and thus virtually the 'offspring' of the demons.
I don't know how that would lead to giants though, unless the demons had knowledge of DNA and were somehow allowed to alter it. This should not be thought of as impossible, however, since we ourselves as intelligent creatures are able to manipulate matter and are on the verge of truly dangerous knowledge in many fields. Also, perhaps since that time God has restricted what demons are allowed to do and so we don't see this aspect of their interference in our world anymore.

I wrote a paper on this for a theology course. Cornelius a Lapide compiles interesting opinions on the matter.
Some early Fathers like St. Justin Martyr appear to endorse human/demon unions as the source of the nephilim; after St. Augustine, that opinion becomes a small minority. However, I think the data is best explained as human/demonic unions, not as though the demons can reproduce or have DNA, but that a fallen angel, appearing to a man as a succubus, then appears to a woman as an incubus with the stolen seed.
Some people want to quibble about the etymology of Nephilim, but it seems to be plainly an Aramaic loanword and the LXX and Vulgate both use the appropriate word for "giant," so that's not too confusing.

    • @pennsyltuckyreb9800
      @pennsyltuckyreb9800 ปีที่แล้ว

I agree demons are the souls of dead Nephilim (and Nephilim weren't only just giants, but also various other abominations of nature the fallen angels mixed their seed with from animals to all kinds of human hybrids).
These creations possessed souls but because they weren't from God or directly human to human (we were made in the image/likeness of God), they were forever damned once they died. Irredeemable. This was an active effort by the fallen angels/watchers to corrupt all of creation, especially to eventually corrupt the DNA of Noah's line (Noah was "clean in all his generations") which lead to the Davidic line which led to Jesus Christ's incarnation. It was all and attempt to stop the Incarnation and/or destroy anything and everything from being saved.

I have heard something similar, and to me it makes the most sense. If you listen to an Exorcist, it's not out of the realm of Demons to manipulate physical matter. I've also wondered if they could even do this in dreams, thus collecting "nocturnal emissions" and then supplanting that into a women who is also given some sort of sexual dream. The idea that Demons are still at work in the world, and in fact the world has been given over to them (princes and principalities), I don't think it's a far reach for that theory to be true.

This is obvious. Angels don't have what it takes. They are superior to men spiritually speaking, but they don't have the ability to procreate. Hybrids are purely speculation. The simplest answer is probably the correct one. The Watchers understood that the children of the sons of Seth and the daughters of Cain would produce giants and drew them together to interbreed and for that reason were punished for it.

    • @elainec7369
      @elainec7369 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Yes, the book of Enoch is real, but it appears the book was lost long enough so that it couldn't be added to the canon of scripture, being unnecessary for salvation per se, but still valuable for wisdom and understanding for some since it is confusing to many. Seth's children were forbidden to interact with Cain's children, so when they did, they broke the greatest law of God's children: avoid idolaters. The Watchers seduced the Sons of God to interact with the Daughters of Men, just not carnally.

Thank you, Dr. Marshall, for this astute exposé on a very important subject found in Holy Scripture as well as supporting extra-biblical books, e.g., 1 Enoch, Jubilees, fragments of the Book of Giants, etc. This is a particular subject of interest of mine that I've been researching for about 44 years in my studies. Many, if not the majority, of the Early Church Fathers, you provided a good partial list, believed that 1 Enoch was inspired and should have been considered part of the later Canon(s) of the Holy Bible. To this day 1 Enoch and Jubilees are still in the Canon of the Holy Bible of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church which has always had 1 Enoch in its original Semitic language of Ge'ez, long before it was rediscovered in the Western Churches in the 1700s. You made a good reference also to the several New Testament books (Apostolic Fathers), as well as books of the Septuagint that we use in the Eastern Orthodox, Roman Catholic, Eastern Catholic, and Oriental Orthodox Churches. As a Christian brother, I would encourage you however to cease using the Sacred Name of Yahweh so often. You may recall that many years ago a friendly entourage of Jewish Rabbis in Rome visited the Vatican and beseeched the Pope to put a stop to this practice of using and speaking of the Sacred Name, the Tetragrammaton, so profusely in everyday language, theological talks, songs, hymns, etc. I believe this visit and admonition occurred during the pontificate of Pope John Paul II, who we know was very astute, appreciative, and sensitive to our "Elder Brothers"; the concerned friendly Jewish Rabbis. After this visit, we saw the Vatican respond positively to that advice. Many songs and references disappeared that were using and taking so lightly the Sacred Name. We can, and should in my humble opinion, say instead: God (as you well-say a lot), LORD God, The LORD, God Adonai, Hashem, Adonai, the Holy Trinity (Adonai Elohim), the sacred Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, Heavenly Father, etc., to speak of Him, show direct veneration, worship, and adoration to our Lord God Almighty, liturgically and otherwise, instead of utilizing the Sacred Name so frequently. Keep up the diligent and holy work you do. God bless you. Your brother in Christ, Dr. William Jarvis

Actually, while "the majority, of the Early Church Fathers" held to the Angel view, less than a handful, "believed that 1 Enoch was inspired and should have been considered part of the later Canon(s) of the Holy Bible"--and it wasn't and doesn't belong therein since it contradicts the Bible so much and is folklore from millennia after the Torah.
      that
Since YHVH said, "This is my name forever, and thus I am to be remembered throughout all generations" why do you say, "I would encourage you however to cease using the Sacred Name of Yahweh so often." Is the only issue your subjective pseudo standard as to how often is "so often"?

Definitely a fascinating subject! My main issue with it is that it claims good angels turned bad and were able to physically produce offspring. From everything we know of angels, they all already made their choice to be good or evil when they were first created, their will is fixed in that decision and cannot be changed afterwards. Also, angels, good or bad, do not have physical bodies, so how can they procreate?
If I were to try and circumvent my main issue with the story I could go with the Augustine and Aquines arguments for it. Possibly, they were human men who also allowed themselves to become possessed by demons and gained demonic knowledge that further lead the human populace down the drain. And all the children they had may had been cursed by God. Or their children were possessed by demons who changed their height. Or maybe the demons were allowed to alter the DNA of the children that made them grow to be extra large.
Or maybe they were angels, who at the time they were first created, rejected their task given to them by God to be these "Watchers". So during the time of Enoch, the angels were already demons who decided to do the opposite of their original task. How did they have children? Possibly they were given special permission from God to do so. It was a trial that God tasked the human race with at that time to overcome (to which they failed miserably). Theoretically, the anti christ is suppose to be the physical offspring of Satan (🤷‍♀️). If that is true then one may argue that it could of happened before (only it was with lesser demons and not with Satan himself)
Or maybe it is all just a fairytale.
Overall, while it's fun to speculate about it all, I'm going to remain a fense-sitting on it all.

1 Enoch says that they took on bodies of flesh.
We know that angels have the ability to change into men because we see it all over the Bible.
Their base form is pure spirit but that doesn’t mean that they can’t create a physical body. The angels that came to lot before sodom an Gomorrah had physical bodies they looked like very attractive men according to the sodomites of those cities.

That's a good point about angels not having bodies and being able to have sex with humans but do we know that for sure or rather do we know for sure that an angel couldn't find a way to make this happen?

Bad angels are strongly jealous of our human nature. I understood they are anti life...pro-abortion, ....and All angels have always been of a spiritual nature. God desired the creation of the human race after the creation of angels....to be his "children". Doubt if an evil angel could alter DNA. I also understand that the return of Elisha and Enoch were prophetic signal of the end time arrival of the Messiah.

I too thank you for such a thorough explanation of the nephilim.... To answer your questions , I do believe Peter and Jude believed that the nephilim Giants were actually fallen angels and human origin.... I too believe that Saint Augustine of Hippo and Aquinas would reconsider their view on this matter. Thank you once again.

I do believe Jude and Peter believed Enoch to be literal in his writings. However this raises a question for me; my understanding is that the angles do not have physical bodies , so how can (fallen) angles copulate with humans?

      1 Hebrews 5
For to which of the angels hath he said at any time, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?
If no angel has ever been called son of God, then the sons of God in Genesis are not angels.

The book of Job speaks of angels as "sons of God". As to their ability to have sexual relations with human women, in their original state they are sexless, but the 3 angels who visited Abraham and the 2 who visited Lot were able to eat a meal, so they obviously
Materialized complete human bodies. Faithful angels did this to act as God's messengers. Rebel angels did so to satisfy unnatural lust. It may be that Peter and Jude were not directly quoting the book of Enoch but rather ancient traditions from which the writer of he book of Enoch also drew upon.

@@davidg2839 no Hebrews 1 5 says God has called no Angel son, Job refers to the Sons of God in Job as those who sacrifice to God everyday.

There are 2 obvious problems with the Enoch story:
    1. Angels are incorporeal. They do not copulate as humans do.
    2. An angel's will is fixed. If he fell, he did so at the beginning of time.
There is a reason Enoch is not in the Bible, but it cannot be dismissed completely. There is a hybrid interpretation possible. Each fallen angel had a purpose God assigned them that they rebelled against. The watchers could have been demons originally assigned to be guardian angels. In the book of Enoch, the chronology could be off regarding the timing of the demon's fall. Additionally, when the demons supposedly copulated with women, this could mean the demons influenced men from the line of Seth to be seduced by evil women. These women were their downfall, influencing them to commit idolatry and all manner of other sins. This happened to many other men in the Bible, such as Adam, Ahab, and Solomon.

    • @rtfirefly8092
      @rtfirefly8092 ปีที่แล้ว +1

That is possible. Maybe at the time these angels were created, what was their downfall was that when they were given the knowledge of women, they fell into lust at that time and damned themselves. Demons fell for many reasons, so why not lust?

@@rtfirefly8092 My understanding is that angels and demons, as incorporeal beings, do not have desires of the flesh as we do.
