- My Thoughts: How I was treated in this video was something I was not prepared for, even after having lived in Thailand for 8 months now, but thankfully I was able handle it in the best way I knew how. I will say that this may not be every Black Person's experience, be but was based off my experience as Black Man living in Thailand.
I must note that any thoughts that I have or things that are shared in this video are my own and are not reflective of the hI Peace Corps, but this has been a byproduct of my Peace Corps Experience as a Black person serving in an Asian Country.
Thai people are incredibly loving, caring, Kind, and have been extremely welcoming since the first day I stepped foot into Thailand. All the love that was shown in this video was only a small glimpse of the massive outpour of support and love shown by all Thai people. I'm super grateful for my placement as a Youth in Development Volunteer in Thailand. I wouldn't trade this experience for anything.

It’s not that we are tolerant, we’re not just tolerating you. A lot of us fully accepts diversity or just do not see the divide at all!(of course there are outliers who are bad people, but most people I know are very nice.)

I like to add that most people who shy away from foreigners mostly just because they can't speak English and feel insecure, and not because of racism 😅 so when some Thai people smile nervously at you, they just afraid you would speak to them lol

As a Thai I can proudly say that I have never exprienced any racism problem here during my entire life.Little problem I heard was usually the individual problem mostly connecting to the bad behaviour or cultural differences.😅😅😅😅😅

I, along with my other Asian and Black colleagues, have experienced racism and discrimination. The schools I’ve worked at before did not employ ‘non-white’ individuals. I was only accepted as a floating teacher. They often made negative comments about the accents of Indian and some Filipino applicants. Parents complained when the school hired someone who wasn’t ‘farang’. They would always say, ‘We are paying the school a substantial amount, and you’re giving us non-native speakers/non-whites?’ Believe me, because I and most of my Asian friends have experienced all of that firsthand.
On the other hand, I’ve got some really nice Thai friends who never denied this truth; they actually condemned it. Instead, they cheer us up and remind us of what we can do and believe in what we can offer to your country as foreign workers❤

It depends on the personality of that person, doesn’t matter what race you are or how you look. If that person are respect, polite and nice, absolutely most of thais ( especially out of bangkok ) will be treat you nice in the same way. They will be so kind as you’re their relatives.

If you're not serious, let me tell you, some Thai people might call you by your physical appearance, such as black-white, thin-fat, short-tall etc. But that is not discrimination. Thai people like things simple and call things as they see them,which is a long-standing culture of the Thai people. (Maybe not very good) So if you are not serious about it. You will know how friendly Thai people are to you.
I am a Thai, I had bad experiences . I was bullied and racism by teachers and friends since I was primary school. I feel bad when someone call me by physically or everything about my body. So, some Thais have to learn or educate more about bullying and racist.
But, to be honest: nowadays everything is better than 10-30 years ago.

They choose the families for the volunteers after volunteer training to get to know each of us individually so that we can be matched up with the perfect host family. If I can do it so can you you💯

As Thai, If you're foreigner, no matter you're black or lgbtq. We don't care about it and depends on Thai people who has anti-mind to foreigner, but not easily to see. If you're called "hey black or บักดำ (means you're black) remember it's normal to Thai people too, because when I was young, my uncle, grandpa called me when I'm outside.
