    That DBS is still the best looking. The new astons can’t compete with the DB9/DBS for their looks. Still beautiful but not on that level.

      the new Astons are hypercars. Very hard to make a hypercar elegant.

    Thanks once again Mike for an informative and fun video. Having owned a DB9.1 many years ago and now being an owner of a 2010 DBS auto, for me the DBS is the one, it just mixes the perfect combination of GT and sports car characteristics. And on your final point of how you feel on the glance over your shoulder after parking up, I think a Quantum silver DBS has a timeless beauty that is right up there with other stunning looking Astons..

    Good review. I'd like to see a similar comparison of DBS vs DB9.2

  • @SkitBit

    3rd option would be a 2016 DB9 GT. Also around the 85-90k mark if you can actually find one. Stock they have a newer interior than the DBS (straight from the newer Vanquish) and has another 30bhp too. This was my question too and I went for the DB9 GT. Authentic Aston with upgraded tech. It's phenomenal!

    I had the same problem when I was looking at my first Aston my choices were DB11 Vanquish or DBS . I looked for about a year and then I got a call about a car that was traded in to Aston Martin Auckland New Zealand that’s where I live by the way . And it’s a 2009 DBS manual with low km Casino Royal grey and I was in love and I’ve had it now about 2 years .

      I thought for one minute you'd bought mine Kevin, about the same time I parted with my 2010 Volante at the same dealership. If you see a Quantum Silver, with the reg 'V12 DBS', which, let's be honest, with so few of these cars on the roads of NZ, is a distinct possibility, then you'll know where it came from. All it lacked in the end was Apple Carplay but I can highly recommend getting that through Aston Installations in the UK and getting it fitted by the guys at Rapid Radio in Auckland who installed it flawlessly in my Vantage,

    The supposed increased roominess of the DB11 appeals to me. At 6'8 I literally couldn't get into a DB9/S, no idea about a 2013 Vanquish (my ideal car) and haven't tried a DB11 yet.
    The only thing is I don't like the look of the DB11 and not having naturally aspirated kind of takes away the whole thing of the Aston V12.

    • @graygamingps4503
      @graygamingps4503 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm 6'4 so by no means as tall as you but I struggled a lot in a DB9 so I presume the S would be the same. The Vanquish had more room but still not what I would call roomy. I fit perfectly fine in a DB11 or DBS Superleggera

    Thanks for posting; your videos are always hugely informative. I have two comments: first, had you put the DB11 AMR into sports or sports plus mode, the “boaty feel” would have gone; next, a true comparison would have been not with the arguably horribly over powered 600 hp AMR (which by the way can’t currently be bought for less than £110k) but with the 500 hp DB11 V8. These are though very small points; its always a pleasurable education to listen to your thoughts.

    Db11 seems like a gateway car to a full-on electric DB in the future. For me it's wonderful to enjoy the analog, visceral and primal experience of the DBS for as long as one can.

    Nice review Mike, slight mismatch IMO. I would think a standard DB11 is a replacement for DB9. Notwithstanding the size, internal noise and road holding differences which were interesting to hear, in your video it would have been good to directly compare the Sport mode of both the DB11 AMR vs the DBS to understand the difference in top end experience.How about a gen 1 Vanquish S vs DBS vs V12 Vantage review for an analogue smack down?

    I had a new Vantage for a day when my DB11 was in for a service. That thing was epic to drive and feel pretty sure it would give all of them a run for their money. Sadly, it left me with a nagging question question about my choice of car... and a big grin.

  • @FazerWiz
    @FazerWiz ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for this, but I think a better comparison would be the DB11 vs a Vanquish which you can also pick up for around the same money. It'd be particularly interesting to know the difference in the Volante, where the much stiffer chassis of the newer car should add strongly to that option, despite the lake of carbon fibre and carbon ceramic on the Vanquish. In the coupe though, the charm of the Vanquish V12 sound-track might be a deciding factor.

  • @johnc5clive

    Great video clip. Just collected my V12 Vantage S this week. It’s more like a miniature DBS in that it is analogue in its feel and it’s a tiny car. Slightly bigger all round than a merc SLK but with a V12 lump. It still amazes me how AM got that engine in such a small body. Super smooth on the road and doesn’t bounce at all on rough surfaces. I thought it would track pretty poorly because of the rear 295 tyres but it’s rock-solid. The power seems to be more with the sport button pressed- got wheel spin in 5th in the wet yesterday which I wasn’t expecting but totally controllable and not scary. It’s exactly what I was expecting and more as I had been researching and test driving for 2 years before the correct car became available. Lightweight wheels and carbon bucket seats was a must. The angle of the bucket seats puts you in the perfect position of control. Drove it from London up to Scotland and the comfort of those seats is amazing. In front of the seat, there is a pocket with extra lumbar cushions should you need it which is a nice touch. The looks, the performance, the amazing sound makes the driving experience so special. I absolutely love it..

    This is a great channel. I've owned 2 V12 Aston's (Virage and Vanquish 8-speed) and both were great. The Vanquish was replaced by an inferior F12. I'm a Porsche guy really and although there is a wall of Porsche content out there, none is as good as this sensible advice on this channel. Having owned a few special cars I agree completely with the comment here that they are all dynamically better than you need on public roads - it's how you feel about them that's key. The reliability, in my experience (2000's cars onwards), has always been good.

      @@graygamingps4503F12 too powerful to enjoy and it's too hard / big to be a sports car anyway. So yes. But on the V car the 6-speed was a much weaker car. The gearbox and suspension changes in the 8 speed make all the difference. The 8 is the one to get - with suspension in firm, i thought it was great.

      @graygamingps4503 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mikewy192 Unfortunately I haven't driven either but I take your points. I'm sure in day to day driving the difference in speed cannot be noticed. It annoys me when people try and put Ferrari on a pedestal, as I see it objectively they are on the same level it's just which which choose. People often like to quite how Ferrari holds its value better but again I don't see this generally, the 458 and F12 being the exception. Many many 355, 550, 575, 360, F430, 599 etc. Can be had for the same price as say a DBS or Vanquish

    Nicer review. I thought my V12V was quite big on the road (width) and I had to check the size against the DBS (~same). The DB11 must be huge, which is a shame. I love to drive country lanes, which really rules out the more recent Astons. I now have a 348 which is great for this.

    • @Forndrome

      The DB 11 is pretty much exactly the same size as the old DBS according to dimensions online. Lots of reviewers have commented that it is large though, so it's probably more a perception thing.

    DBS is the easy choice with classic looks and analog feel with possible appreciation. DB 11 is like the Db9 in that it’s the base car and will not likely be a collectors car.
